KOF 2001 is definitely not the worst in the series. That honor goes to KOF XII (12)

KOF is really popular in Mexico I remember there were many guys in the arcade machines competing against each other to see who’s the best lol fun times
The reason people are not too fond of this game is because it's made by another company and not SNK, as well as the pixel art is very different.
But I think this one is great too. I also have the US AES version. Just missing 02 and 03 now. Great video! Keep it up :D
As an avid KOF/Fatal Fury fan (or pretty much any SNK fighter for that matter), I have a hate/love relationship with KOF 2001 😅 I wouldn't say it's the worst, but to me, it's definitely the red headed stepchild of the series. Actually, the whole NESTS saga is the red headed stepchild (or stepchildren I should say). It was 'funky' because it was worked on by Eolith instead of SNK, funky artwork, the damage output was weirdly high as hell, etc. When SNK reemerged as SNK Playmore and released the combo pack of 2000/2001, I was hyped and picked it up immediately.

once had a neogeo aes. Around 2006 or so. With kof 2000,matrimelee,sengoku 3,art of fighting. Sold it then for way to little. Going by the theory of my mom then. If you don't touch it sell it. Well i'll never do that aggain. All those games where like 100€ top then for me. Never should have sold it.
Great fighters besides KOF on the Neo Geo are: Fatal Fury & Samurai Showdown. Put in a lot of time in the arcades on those titles.
First off, Merry Christmas. Secondly, I used to work at a grocery store when I was 18 and my full paycheck would always go to a Neo Geo game. It only took 31 years for you to catch up with a cracka. Good job!

I understand your choice that you want to play on OG hardware. Going the AES route can be tough since there are so many bootlegs in circulation. The cheapest alternative but still expensive, is to collect Japanese AES games, you can save tons of money compared to most of the US/European releases. If you install a Unibios chip, you can select english on the japanese games for those that doesn't have English as a built in option. The best option IMO is to use a flash card, like the NeoSD PRO AES from Terraonion. This card gives you the option to play the whole library by installing the roms. You can even upload 4 roms at the time, almost like the MVS multi switcher at the arcade. You got several options with the Neo Geo AES, including buying a MVS adapter to collect much cheaper games. It's up to you what route you choose, the journey is fun either way 😃
Thank you for your input! And yeah, I’m not completely sold on US versions. So, I will save money there by picking up Japanese versions of the games. Honestly, I think that’s pretty cool. So we will see! 👌🏾
@@thequeeng2282 Especially Power Instinct Matrimelee. If I remember correctly most of the soundtrack was removed from the international versions. So the japanese version is the best one for that game. If you are interested in it
Neo Geo is one of those systems that was a “These are cool and I’ll never be able to afford one” thing 😂. Still pricey but that’s the advantage of being an adult with a job right?. I only really got into 2D fighters on the Dreamcast which is an awesome system for fighters. Good luck on your Neo Geo quest. Looking forward to more.

2001 and 2003 are the least popular. Which I both like. I actually like 2003 a lot more just because the arcade was so fun. We don't count KOF12 because that is a literal beta and it's terrible.

It's awesome that you are getting into Neo Geo collecting there are really some awesome games for the Neo Geo. Congrats on picking up KOF 2001, Are you going for the Full KOF set? I went for the Full Japanese KOF NEO geo Set, the last one I need is KOF 2002. I recommend getting the UNIBIOS 4.0 for your Neo Geo it gives some really nice features to the system. Like region swapping and cheat codes to get infinite lives or invincibility, you won't regret it. That's definitely a respectable Squad you picked there, My Squad is Terry, Joe & King. Also, I accept That challenge in KOF I Definitely love a challenge. 💪
I haven’t completely decided on the FULL set of KOF. I think my quest will end with Neo Geo. Collect every KOF that came out for the AES. But not further. I dunno yet tho. lol.
I’m definitely a fan of Neo Geo AES, I am just totally interested in its legacy. I wish I had the opportunity to play more of its games when I was younger. But I’m enjoying catching up now. 😉🤓💜
Despite not being a Neo Geo game, Capcom VS SNK 2 coming out in the same year did not help either...AT ALL

98 is my favorite but theyre basically all pretty good aside from 94 (which is still decent but WAY different than the rest)
King of Fighters 98 is the best one but it's kind of expensive I paid about $1,300 for it but the dude wanted 1800 but I talked them down🕹🎮😀👍🏾

NeoGeo has a high price to play. I say, go for it! If you've got the money, invest into what you love. You should also look into an av upscaler. Also pricey but definitely worth it.

Wow, this one is an expensive hobby. But all power to you if you're able to take on this quest. K' is pretty cool; I think he is a clone of Kyo. Joe was my favorite from the original Fatal Fury series.

The one thing I don't like about the KOF series is how they keep screwing over King. They keep sending her best fighters over to other teams, leaving he stuck with basically lemons like Kasumi, the frog girl and the "But why Sumo, though?" girl. Sure, from the start she was with Chizuru, but at least she had May and Yuri to make her team a strong one, but then things got "experimental", and it felt like she was having to go check for fighters at the bottom of the barrel when her so called friends went to join their boyfriend's team; Yuri gets a free pass, because she went to join her family's team. You know, anything fo family ;) :D

Fortunately KOF always comes back strong after a weaker game. 2001 and XII being a couple of the weakest in the series.
2002 and XIII of course being powerhouses. The ones we keep going back to and enjoy to this day.
Still my favorite fighting game series.
I have to give it to you. Neo Geo is not an easy system to collect for. Yes it definitely hits the bank account.
