The reason I would never spend money for some lux brands is their customer service. I shall certainly not give money to arrogant people who think they are better humans just because they are part of a big brand. That said, I actually went to a store of lux brand and saleswoman told me they have to put me on waiting list and decide if I can have the bag when it's back in stock. I thanked her politely and responded that in that case I have decided they can't sell me things. All that artificial hysteria of creating desire can't work on anyone with triple digit IQ. I really don't believe in "looking rich" by piling brands. I believe, as a real fashion lover, into looking unique and stylish no matter what kind of money you have without being a logo panel.
I absolutely agree on the arrogance of some brands and I also believe in the fact that one can look amazing and chic no matter the brand and/or logos!✌️💓
I hate bad customer service...period! No matter where it would be, in high end store, cheep store, cafeteria, bank. I think..when you receive it...we need to leave review online for that. And also avoid that exact store. People who dont appreciate their job, don't need job! No clients no store. They have forgotten..the clients are paying them salary! No client, no buyer, no money, no salary, no store.
Their false sense of superiority makes me really sick... have you heard about the absolutely ridiculous process involved in obtaining a Hermes Berkin (Birkin?) bag? It's disgusting.. I'd much rather purchase a handmade bag from etsy than a designer branded bag; just for the sake of the brand name
Thanks for this. I've always wanted a Chanel bag, I still do, but I bought a piano instead, much cheaper than the bag, and I'm happy when I play. This video was very helpful to me.
I agree. It's impossible to play Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto on a Classic Flap. I invested in Murray Pariah's stunning interpretation - much cheaper and gave me a lot more pleasure than any bag ever could.
@@lillianz7111 sorry but not a good choice spending a fortune on Rolex diamond that people think it's fake, unless you drive a Roll Royce to match with
Everything you've said is spot on and is exactly what the UA-cam community need to hear. UA-cam has increased the popularity of luxury goods and in particular Chanel bags and the public needs to hear the honest opinion of users like yourself. Thank you for this video and I love the way you addressed each topic.
did you know that she only have ONE chanel bag and she also in her current video wish list she want to get chevron chanel bag? she is hypocrite., shame on her. Chanel is popular since forever , no need youtube to make it popular.
the geek is chic I personally do not like Coco Chanel as a person. She was involved with the Nazis and a gold digger. Chanel grew up in an orphanage and was involved with a Jewish man and used his business to grow her brand and eventually want to take over. She was definitely a smart women but not an ethical one, which is why I don’t respect her. Like you said in the video, I do see a lot of women wanting to have a Chanel bag just to look and feel rich and not knowing the brand on a personal level. But I feel like Chanel was that type of a woman. She wanted to get rich fast (with sacrificing her morals). That being said, I have nothing against the company it self and the bags. And I agree with most of the points you made on the video. I would never put my money in that brand but it’s good food for thought.
@@thegeekischic never seen your videos but i was curious on your take on the matter. i used to be a flight attendant and while in uniform, chanel was the ONLY company in the airport to deny us purchase, because they didnt want to be associated with us....like wtf chanel beauty ranges around same prices with ysl (my fav on lipsticks) and less than tom ford, who didnt have an issue with us. the idea of them rejecting buyers just because they are not millionaires, put me off completely. if you dont appreciate my money when im doing a such hard job to put money aside for your items, then i wont throw my money your way when i have it. If i was to have 4000£ now, i would rather have a pre-loved hermes or a large lady dior. But i do invest a large amount of my money in beauty, allways buying high end make up, and besides one powder i bougth long ago from chanel and didnt live up to my expectations (my fav is la prairie), i made sure to exclude chanel from my make up list as well. For judging a book by their cover, i will never associate myself nor support this brand.
@@annappleberry9283 the jewish brothers (Wertheimer's + still owned by same family today) took advantage of Coco Chanel by not giving her even remotely a fair deal w/the company; before war, the brothers refused to put company in her name (they left to NYC) + went behind her back + put in name of a man who sold weapons to Nazi's - this started a fight between chanel + them, with a lengthly court ordeal to follow - she was never charged with any war crimes but by all accounts she dated an aristocrat german alledged nazi spy - due to her relationship, she was involved w/nazi's and had a spy "name" but on flip side she tried to communicate with Churchill (she knew him) to end the war - there is no evidence that she was ever against jews nor took inappropriate actions to call her an anti-semite (b/c she was lived at jewish brothers, many thought she was against jews/nazi) and having a German boyfriend did not look good of course which is more so where her ethics would come into play vs. business dealings from everything I have read - she had a hard childhood + lost her true love in a car wreck which made her a tough cookie but she opened doors for woman in many ways too! totally respect your opinion! (my daughter did huge project on her and required my help at times, lol) xx
I got gifted a chanel medium classic a year ago by my husband ... after 1 month and used it twice. The thread on the flap became loose and sticking out . luckily we went back to chanel and got a refund. But the sale assistant wasnt really friendly. Never again
wendy Wendy I had same issue but they didn’t refund. Only offered an exchange where due to VAT i paid 300$ more. Really terrible service I agree with u. (im talking about Dubai boutique)
Oh gosh Umida terrible to hear that. I am actually from Dubai. I took a Chanel bag once there for authentication, the salesgirl was so rude and asked me very rudely if I was a reseller! Hahha I was stunned. Next time (shortly after) I went in to actually buy a new mini and I tell you she was fawning all over me!! Not sure if she recognised me but she either she was pretending she was seeing me for the first time or she really forgot? Lol I ended up buying from Chanel Mall of Emirates when I got a call from sales rep lol
Bought all my three Chanels preloved, one vintage, two in pristine condition. Chanel customer service is awful, they are NEVER getting my money!!! Greetings from Austria 😉
The quality decrease is visible in numerous brands also as some brands now tend to outsource their production. Buying preloved can actually help overcoming this issue, also it's more affordable, plus you don't contribute to the waste accumulation... Thanks for the video!
enough with this environment propaganda bullshit. We dont need preloved shit. We want brand new one. I wanna have that luxury experience. We want to be exclusive. who gives a fuck about waste and shit.
Yes correct the quality does not reflect the price increase happening yearly. The only luxury brand that does not expirence quality decrease is Hérmes. Hermes has stayed the same quality and continue to impress me. Even thought the hefty price that goes with the bag the quality and assurance that you can take the bag into the store to get it repaired or spa makes it worth the price
Hello I’am a student from France in fashion industry and some bags are now fabricated in China but the montage (I don’t know if we say it like that) is made in France. They can have the French luxury label. So don’t by Chanel beg in store I recommended vintage
Claudia Hount. By montage, you mean the assembly. Yes, all the pieces are from China, but since they put it together in France or Italy, it can be labeled as from there.
Wow never actually knew that ! Then it makes perfect sense that a secondary leather factory copying any Chanel bag stitch to stitch in China itself with real genuine caviar / lambskin leather ! And selling it as master copy for much cheaper. Where then is the real Chanel value?! We should think about that, and I would like to see a documentary on how a genuine overpriced Chanel bag is made from start to finish! Never seen one and doubt the house will release that lol
@@shembeliever6095 I did my Masters in Intellectual Property Law, dealing with issues of copyright and sometimes the same manufacturers that make bags for a group of luxury designers also make the copies. It is a multi-billion pound industry. Man doesn't miss an opportunity to make a profit if there is a market. The counterfeit market is thriving more than ever because of the hugely inflated prices of the authentic market. Each market feeds the other.
@@NickyM_0 Mindblowing! Absolutely money talks. I live in Dubai and this is the land of luxury and luxury counterfeit, you really cannot distinguish between the two. Consignment stores are everywhere selling apparently the genuine stuff I have been to almost all of them here, and I now wonder about those in the Far East and in the West where the luxury consumer market is even more massive. So easy to pass off high end master copies to the trusting public!
To be honest, one of my main reason for not buying a Chanel Classic Flap bag is that it's a style that gets copied so much, people might as well think it's a fake. Same with bags like LV Neverfull. The fakes have just decreased the value of those bags for me.
One piece of 7 sq-feet top-grade sheep leather probably costs you less than 30 USD . One such bag uses less than 3 pieces of leather . That means the biggest share of the material ( the leather ) in this bag costs less than 100 USD . Plus metal part ( one set of top-quality metal part costs less than 30 USD ) , the total material cost of the entire bag costs less than 150 USD . Add up labor cost I believe the number is less than 200 USD. So basically , you pay 5000 USD for that bag & give the manufacturer 4800 USD of profit . If we talk about the fabric/PVC bag (such as Guxxi Jacquard bag & LX classic print bag ) , the number is even more appealing . Each feet of the jacquard fabric they use costs less than 5 USD . For one median sized hand carry bag you need less than 5 feet that's 25 USD in the material . & they sell you 1500 USD. I'm very good at sewing & leather crafting so basically now I make all my stuff or I only buy vintage bags . It's a very stupid thing to buy an extremely overpriced product for the glamour of the SHOP or advertisement ( not for the glamour of the product itself ) . So if a woman just wants to buy things I would recommend you buy jewelry . At least jewelry is made of expensive material : such as real gold/platinum/stone/diamond and it lasts forever ( as long as you clean it ) . & as stones are becoming rarer , you can have potential return in price increase of the jewelry collection as well .
ceciLOVEtaco actually, as someone working on the making of such items, I beg to differ. Your estimation isn’t accurate. Firstly, the kind of leather used is more on the likes of 60USD by skin. This kind of bag will use 2 to 3. Then, the metal parts may be around 30USD for the lock yes, +3/4 USD for each zipper and another 3/4 for the little metal part of the zipper. Lastly, the labor cost. You have to bear in mind that these bags are made in Europe, by hand (yes, it might be a bit industrialized with machines and stuff, but there’s always someone guiding it). Classic ones are usually made in France, where hourly pay for the company is around 30USD for the kind of person trained to make them. One bag takes usually 10-15 hours, and 2/3 different persons. So that’s another 360USD minimum by bag. Then you have the labels (these ridiculous little paper tags cost 2/3USD each...), packaging (here again, a ridiculous 4/5USD for each paper box + the dust bag for which I can’t remember the exact price), transportations, warehouses, security (there again, add all the French or Italian salaries...). In the end you have the sales associates. Hourly rate should be around 40USD minimum for the company if in France (I can’t speak for other countries), and they’ll be here 8/10h a day to sell maybe 2of them a day. Here goes 160USD. So in the end, direct cost for a classic flap could be around 700USD, of which we don’t take into account the hidden costs : full teams to develop new products (paid on the classics), investments to produce clothing and other items, advert, rent for the offices and most of the boutiques. While I agree that this is definitely not the 5500USD of the retail price, and that it may seem exaggerated, I also know that handbags are the backbone of fashion. Clothes, while expensive, actually don’t bring much money into the machine, and what makes brands like Chanel work is almost solely the handbags and the perfume. If you look up the percentages of turnover, that’s actually scary ! So while I do agree with you that it’s definitely priced up if only taking the product itself into account, I think things are actually a bit more nuanced than what it seems. And no, I don’t work for Chanel ;) Sorry for the very long reply, I just really liked your way of analyzing the question very logically and thought it might be interesting to "talk" to you I hope I didn’t bore you and that you had a nice day :)
@@manonm.c1654 yeah a couple of days i was bashed by this person, saying i dont know absolutely anything about leather goods making. Yeah, I maybe dont know much about quality of leather but i know europe and labour costs. Certainly a skilled worker working for Chanel doesnt get paid 50 dollars per a handbag they make.
@@Terinka14 yeah, that's defenitely not 50USD :) these kind of skills are very specific, each worker needs to be trained at least a year before being trusted to do bags such as a 2.55. And since factory work isn't super attractive to the youth, workers are actually quite well paid (again, if working in France, their entry level salary is higher than an hospital nurse, and since most of them are really experienced, monthly pay should be around that of a junior manager or an entry level lawyer from what I know. So quite far from 50USD...). And contrarily to some comments I read below, brands like Chanel and Dior are actually relocating their factories in France more and more. Anyway, if not made in France, these bags are made in Italy, with suppliers that have been working with the brands for years and are the ones that help them go through the collection process, where bags are needed to be made in 4days before a fashion show...
@@manonm.c1654 Thank you . So the direct cost is 200 ~700 USD , and you pay 5000USD. Making a marign of 615% . So people spent 5000 US for the bag , eating a set of 6-dollar Mcdonald (to save to pay for the bag ) & pays 20% credit card interests. One word -- STUPID! Let's expect more Terinka14 so CEO of LV can have more private jets & women. Branded stuff is the kind of product that devalues the most coz lots of stupid people rather pay for the name , not the quality. For example , a one carat white diamond 6 prong setting ring costs almost 40,000 USD in Tiffany while the diamond with the same GIA quality costs 12000USD , the easy platinum setting 1500, making up a margin of 26,500USD. That's why people get broke under the glamour of advertisemens .I will never marry a woman who falls for fancy advertisements but not the quality of the things itself because they are too stupid to be considered partners for life. This industry is paying the workers very low and now they outsource to China or even Bangladesh so the labor cost /total cost will go down again. Comparing to these brands I would rather buy fm individual artists so at least some new ideas can be supported.
I agree. Preloved and vintage is better quality. I have new and vintage...vintage still looks better than the new one and the vintage is over 20’s years old!
Correct. Chanel's quality has really gone down through out the years. Which is ridiculous because they do price increases two times a year. The price increase does not reflect the quality which is currently going down
I said to myself years before that, I won’t by lux bags unless I will have at least $30,000 in my bank account so now I have more than $60,000 saving in my account. I got my first Chanel in Paris for $3,400. I love it. The sale lady was very nice. If I’ve ever experienced with rude customer service, I would buy preloved in Japan instead of buy from boutique stores.
This was, without any doubt, one of the best youtube videos I have ever seen about a Chanel bag. I do love them, I do have them, but I am with you on every single point. Very interesting, informative and intelligent video. Subscribing ;)
You are right I took my Chanel jumbo to the shop after using it for a month I notice the lock is fading and this bag is £4800 , the quality is terrible if you can buy vintage please do I wish I knew I wouldn’t have bought it new .
Did you look rich? Genuinely asking. By that I mean did you have on brands, expensive clothing? Sometimes theyre just nicer to expensive looking people
Ony Ahmed not at all lol my hair was tied up in a messy ponytail and I wasn’t wearing makeup or any jewelry. I was wearing skinny jeans and a $20 blouse! I didn’t even have a purse on me just an LV wallet hahaha
Ony Ahmed the sales associate was even nice enough to pull out other bags I asked about for fun and followed me on Instagram as well. I have encountered snobby SAs from other brands before even when I have been dressed up in over 10k worth of accessories so I think it just truly depends on what their individual personalities are like I guess! I do wish all SAs were as wonderful as the Chanel one I had though!
Z ohh wow, Im glad you had a good time! In dubai there was a really rude sales associate in Dior who wouldnt even let us look at anything. We wanted to buy a shirt for our son. Tommy hillfiger sales associates were nice and helped us choose two really cute t shirts. Youre right, it does depend on the person. Also I read an article recently where they are rude on purpose so people buy stuff to “prove them wrong”
Aahhh thank you ! I'm so happy to discover someone who share my thoughts. I'm leather goods designer, so I'm always comparing luxurious hangbag and clearly when you buy a Chanel bag, you don't buy an amazing product, you're paying for huge catwalks, events, where you will never been invited for . . .
So true at customer service, a friend bought a brand new boy, less than 2 weeks later the wear was showing vis ale signs of wear. The Chanel store accused her of mishandling instead of saying its an issue with the bag. Needless to say she returned the bag, her experience and desire for the bag was ruined! Terrible aftercare!
+ Deirdre Frutiger News flash people don't CARE that YOU think it's authentic. If someone bought a Chanel bag in store, then guess what they probably don't care what Deirdre Frutiger's thoughts are on whether their bag is real. People on this page are TOTALLY toxic and caught up in their own worldview that confirms their own biases. But, you know, props to you for spotting all the "phony" Chanel bags you see!
Oh my goodness! What you said here was wise, thoughtful and resourceful. Very rare to find this type of content on UA-cam, fashion channels too. Great job! Greetings from Poland
I think many women/men purchase Chanel not to resell. They love the bag and have no intention. Influencers have set this “buy/sell” trend. Investment ?? 🤔 Also Chanel bags are for those who can easily afford such luxuries, ie not for those who complain about the price increases. Chanel increasing their prices is probably keeping the brand to a certain standard of customer. Chanel were for ladies of a certain stature so bags not necessarily practical - “ladies who lunch” 😊. Not for, what I call, the “fake rich” - like you said, those who buy to show off and/or have a fake facade of affordability. Quality issues have come about because of social media - easier to complain now and point out issues. Chanel on the preloved market u may get a nice one at a “reasonable” price BUT there’s a lot of old bags out there 🙂. Customer service has declined for most outlets - not the same as back in-the-day - different generation, maybe 🤷🏽♀️. I bet SA service is different for the very wealthy. Love your video 💕
At the end of the days its just a bag and everyone who is able to pay for it or save up for it because they like the item have the right to buy itt i mean like its just a purse some people give them too much Woooow like its just a fashionable purse to carry ur stuff on it and if ur willing to pay for it pay for it if u aint willing to pay for it because of the price then dont buy it im with ya about people complaining about the price like i bet you if the price wasnt that expensive people wouldnt buy ittt cuz oh its just a normal bag 🤦🏻♂️
I'm quite surprised by this attitude. Non rich people can save up for a luxury bag. If some people don't like this and feel like calling them "fake rich", oh well, you cannot please everyone
Lydia A : I agree BUT I’m talking about those who buy high-end luxury bags outside their budget to give the illusion that they are … There are many people who max out their credit cards, get themselves into debt, etc just to rock that bag, shoes, designer clothes, etc - fake rich 🤷🏽♀️
I don’t know how it is where you live, but everybody is not buying nor wearing a Chanel handbag in America. It may seem like a lot of people have it, but it is rare to see someone wearing a Chanel handbag. Unfortunately, majority of people can not afford it even preloved. It is definitely still an exclusive bag.
Most People in America will spend $1500-$2500 on a Louis Vuitton, YSL, or Gucci bag becuase they cannot afford or simply do not want to to spend $5,000-$6,000 on a CHANEL Bag.
It depends on where you live. I've lived in NYC, Seattle, South Florida, and DC. They are very common in NYC and DC where there is a high concentration of money and where status and power are important. In Seattle, there's a big concentration of money but there weren't a lot of leather bags of any sort because of the weather. It rains too often. Most people carry canvas or patent bags. In South Florida, incomes are a lot lower. You won't see designer bags from any brand very often. The most prestigious brands you'll come across is MK, Coach, and Kate Spade. But if you head over to Miami, there's tons and tons of money. You'll see Chanel from time to time but few classic flaps because Miami-ites don't wear much black. It's hot and looks heavy. In that beachy tropical environment, a big quilted black bag just looks kind of dumb - even if it's a Chanel classic flap. The US is a big place with a lot of people with a lot of different lifestyles. The only blanket statement that works is that no blanket statement works.
I agree. I live in the Los Angeles suburbs and I’ve never seen anyone carrying a Chanel bag. Only LV never full or no label bags. The only Chanel I see is on UA-cam or Instagram!
I really enjoyed watching your video. Usually I don't comment but this time I'll make an exception. I bought my Chanel bags for exactly the same reasons as you did - partly as a form of showing respect to this brilliant, rebellion woman who made it from scratch (I work in the beauty industry and have been building my company from zero too, so i know how hard it is). Anyway, I have had 11 of them - mostly classic flap in variety of colors (4 black with various finishes, 1 light blue, 1 dark blue, 1 light brown/beige, 1 dark brown, 1 grey, 1 pink and 1 red). Now I'm down to 4 (grey, light blue, 2 brown). Why I sold all the rest was because they dragged too much attention, made me feel look cheap (!), not "rich" or whatever. Then I realized too many women wear them, they lost its real exclusivity. I'm considering selling the last three, and keeping only the grey one as its color blends well with gunmetal finish of hardware and less visible reissue clasp - altogether much less attention-taking than any other one I've had. I also see this whole logo mania kind of tacky, including interlocking CC being part of it nowadays :( it would get me to the point of caring these bags with the logo towards me so that people couldn't see it, but then everyone recognizes the quilt anyway! :) One more thing - I agree the 24 c gold finish of vintage hardware is totally different from newer models. One of my brown ones is actually vintage with gold hardware - it's unfaded and still keeping its luster after all these years (grabbing attention :)), while much newer dark blue one with gold finish kind of faded after a while. Vintage bags are also lighter and feel more spacious than the over-puffed new ones. Quality linked to functionality is everything, isn't it? Big hug to you.
Hey dear , thank you for your comment! I can relate to your thoughts and I am also falling more and more in love with the reissue rather than the classic flap because it’s more understated and therefore more elegant these days. I personally would still keep just one classic flap as a “colloector’s” piece.
It's like you read my mind on all of this. I had so many disgusting experiences in so many Chanel boutiques, I refuse to give them a dime. My 50th is coming up and I am really giving 2nd thoughts on what to do. The YSL Lou Lou is the exact functionality that the Chanel should be. I love the one I bought, the experience was lovely and I happened to buy it on friends and family on 57th and Madison for 30 off. That makes me smile.
Alison Levy My friend went to 3 stores before she could even get in because they were ‘closed for private shopping by an oil sheikh”. She decided after one day of buying it that she wanted it a size smaller. She got a €450 refund coupon...
I agree with everything you said. I purchased a Chanel reissue over the classic cc’s because I wanted a bag I could crossbody. I love the understated look of it and it doesn’t weigh as much as the classic cc’s.
see? when smoke clears people start seeing the things the way they really are. 20 years ago I told everyone crying over Louis Vuitton "never full' bag it's an ugly bag in vomit and shit colours. Did anyone listen? NO. fast forward to today, those ladies put diapers and baby items in the same luxury bags. That must tell you enough.
You know what no one has for a purse/wallet that can hold a lot of items???? Condoms...go on start a trend, they're cheap, hold your stuff in place, and you can get off the Louis/Chanel/fashion bandwagon because everyone has one!
@@m.veldman5681 I guess the rule only applies to some shops then? There have been youtubers and people on forums complaining about customer service refusing to touching bags more than 5 years old as of last year.
I couldn't agree more with everything you said. Fortunately I got two bags the Jumbo and the Medium preloved and the quality is much better than what I see now. I know as I have heard from many people that the after sale service is awful at Chanel which shouldn't be the case considering they are 5k bags.
I both my Chanel bag in boutique in Paris and I feel like a princess there. Personnel was very nice and friendly. And it was my first purchase from Chanel.
I totally agree with everything you said. Esp the double flap it is annoying AF! I have since sold that bag. I am subscribing to your channel. Please do more honest review videos like this 👍
This black bag you are holding is the last one I may buy because the fake version of it is every where and every woman in the supermarket is carrying it day and night. Also, people will think I m carrying the fake one. Great video dear.
Husband wanted to gift me one for our anniversary but after hearing all the horror stories w/ customer service, I pass! They won't be getting our money.
Your commentary is hilarious! Love how blunt you are about buying Chanels - that it makes LOOK richer but you become POORER. I bought one in 2017 and wish I had this video to watch back then. Definitely regret buying it when I wasn’t financially mature
I am glad you enjoyed the video! I can relate to your Chanel story, I had my fair share of regretable purchases, especially when I was just starting to buy high end fashion...💖
I randomly come across your video. This is one of my biggest dream bag. After seeing your video, now made me think twice in buying it. All what you said on this video made really great sense. Thank you for sharing and I am your new subbie by the way.
Thank you so much! I just wanted to share my experience and give food for thought - if you love love love the bag, it still might be the right decision for you to get it:)
Too Late! I bought 3 Chanel bags in 2019! A Red & a Black Double flap & A Dk Blue Flap! I LOVE them, too, & have no regrets! I decided to celebrate the ending of another decade & my 70th B.D. in January! I got quite a price break & I'm loving them even more bc of it! Needless to say, My husband is VERY indulgent, to me!🥰
This was so real and honest! I’ve wanted a Chanel bag for a while now, but I can’t see myself purchasing it for the price tag. I will take all of the things you mentioned and do my research before making such a hefty purchase later on down the line.
“It will not make you happy, it will not make you rich... in fact, it will make you feel worse bc you just spent a sh*t ton of money on a bag.” 😂 I’m definitely a Chanel fan but you made a lot of good points in this video and I couldn’t help laughing my a$$ off at your comment above. Thanks for sharing!! Very balanced and practical video. 👏
That may not completely true on the customer service, I’ve been their shops in Asia and Europe, I’m not their VIP and I just bought a small clutch, I received excellent and professional service from the staffs
I have always felt customer service were wonderful. Speaking of Chanel Boutiques in Paris mother store, Lafayette mall(spelling wrong),New york, and others. Always always wonderful to me. Guess I was lucky!!
I bought a black single flap bag (new) 12 years ago totally impractical can't fit anything much in it so I sold it! I also bought a limited edition gold double flap bag from New York and sold that one too I prefer the bigger larger flap bags and vintage ones at that! I think they're rude because they can't afford to own one and you're in there buying it's a case of sour lemons I prefer to buy Louis Vuitton the staff were lovely and friendly in Melbourne I also bought an YSL bag which was nicer than both my Chanel bags and cheaper and you can wear it crossbody and it fits more things in it much more practical The staff in the Louis Vuitton store on the Champs Elysee Paris were excellent the best customer service I've had
I was looking through UA-cam to see if anyone could validate more on the quality of Chanel bags and luckily, I saw your video. Thank you for really explaining your views and having legit reasons why you wouldn't recommend purchasing one! I dreamt of owning one for the longest time but with so much complaints about the quality control -- it deterred me from acting on it. This video was super educational and made me decide to not look further on Chanel. I would be much happier to spend money elsewhere with customer service to back up their product. Subscribed!
I can’t agree more with you! It’s not just the Chancel store that there SA is rude LV is the same. It’s very sad we we are the one buying it with our money not them we should get there most attention and best customer service to service us.
the instagram sale assistant thinks she's a star because she works for much lower salary than you but that's the idiocy with people who think they're part of some better society because they spend 8-12 hours in a shiny store doing the same cleric work any sales assistant does. many rich people are much nicer than a poor person working for a rich person.
Yes the quality is definitely not like what it used to be and prices go up like crazy every year, but it is also the ultimate classic bag to have. I went the pre owned route because buying in store + paying the tax is just way too much.
exactly the kind of video that i need right now. been contemplating buying a secondhand classic flap bag in japan but im very hesitant since i already bought a gucci crossbody and rarely use it. probably 2 times since i bought it last year. im actually not a person whose fond of using crossbody bags in general but rather impulsively bought it for aesthetic. and now i just recently quit my job so i dont really need any type of luxury bag for general purpose like going to groceries or staying at home.
Hi!! It’s my first time in our channel and I loved the way you connected to the camera. It really feels like you are in our living room talking to us.. You mentioned that the customer service of Chanel is not the best one. Which luxury brand is the one you had the best experience with? Thanks a lot!! 🙂
I have only one Chanel bag. It is vintage, before the quality deteriorated. I shall never buy the new Chanel offerings. If I ever consider any other Chanel bag or SLG it will be vintage. I love your video and have subscribed to your Chanel. Thank you for your candid comments.
I bought a vintage flap (c. 1994) earlier this year, and I can attest to the quality of those older pieces if anyone else is considering buying one preloved. Personally, I don't care that more people are wearing it; I didn't purchase it for the exclusivity and actually think it's great that the pandemic gave people the chance to save up for harder to obtain items that they've loved from afar. I bought it, because I know it's a classic wardrobe staple that would go well with most of what is in my closet but primarily serve as a special bag for nights out with my husband. I also bought it because of the quality. My bag was clearly used but cared for by the previous owner(s), and just touching the interior pockets alone really showcases how much life it still has in it. Buying it preloved also have me the chance to take my time searching for a bag of a certain quality and price that I'm more comfortable with. Brands like Chanel and Hermes are out of their minds imo pricing their accessories the same as you might find a used car. Exclusivity or not, I just don't consider a handbag with the current amounts they're going for. I have heard mixed reviews about the current quality of Chanel handbags and customer service. I think it's a shame the brand has gotten that reputation, but I wouldn't say those things make the bag not worth buying preloved if you like the model.
I love your level headed approach. You make excellent points all of which I agree with. I think the conversation about luxury appreciation and buying needs more voices like yours. I've subscribed!
You are exactly right about the customer service. They are not as bad as Balenciaga but definitely under the average. I found the customer service in Gucci and Ferragamo boutiques is way much better.
I agree with you re: customer service. X2 female SA's in the Mel city store where arrogant and couldn't be bothered helping me. I was enquiring about a WOC while i was waiting to collect my coin purse that was in for repair. They were more intrested in having a chit chat to one an other rather than assisting me with a genuine enquiry.
I either buy my designer bags on sale or pre-loved. I don't see the point in paying so much for a bag that you're afraid of using it. BUT I invest in high quality treatment products so I can keep my bags nice looking and sturdy for as long as possible. It's important to clean, moisturize and make the bag water repellent. You can't resale a bag at top dollar if it's a dry, cracked wrinkly mess from years of abuse, some re-sellers on eBay are completely unrealistic.
Thanks for this video. I have been wanting to get a medium Chanel classic flap bag but after watching your video I’m not so sure now. If I’m going to spend $6k plus I feel I should get a good customer service. We all deserve a good customer services no matter where we shop.
Absolutely! I think that if you absolutely love the bag (as I do mine), get it, but make sure to buy with an SA you truly trust, ask if they have a "new" one in back so you don´t get the one displayed and also inspect the bag for any marks or imperfections before you get it.
i agree with everything you said! you really don't want to spend so much money on a "luxury" item that everyone owns. i always prefer the reissue 2.55 than the classical flap as it is more understated and less ubiquitous
You made me think when you said check your motivations! I agree I’m going to buy this expensive bag and it ISN’T going to make me richer! Lol I’m taking it off of the top of my wishlist, I rather buy 3 designer bags for the price of 1 chanel. You gained a subbie and thumbs up from me thanks for being honest. I still love your bag 😩😂❤️❤️❤️
Mocha thank you very much, I am glad you enjoyed the video! I still love Chanel for its heritage and if you decide a Chanel is the right bag for you, there’s nothing wrong with that. We should just do it for us and not because of what other people may think of us💓
I sooooooooo 200% agree with you!!! thank you! I think that "luxury designer" brands have become easier to get your hands on and it seems like somehow EVERYBODY is carrying one, not in parcular Chanel but YSL, Gucci, LV etc to me they lost their "true" value... and so many fake bags being out there makes it worse.....
The last time I bought a bag from a lux brand was when Phoebe Philo was in Celine. Never again after she left. Thought about buying something from Alexander McQueen, but still unsure how things are after he departed, even when things seem to be following his idea.
the only company that makes it hard to get bags truly are hermes with their birkins and kelly and now constance. chanel will sell you anything if you got the money tbh
initially i did buy Chanel for the status but after having it now i know why no other brand is comparable...the design and built quality are just incomparable...and it's not ugly and boring like Hermes
I have the mini rectangular which I do wear crossbody. I am planning on buying the classic in medium size. This is a high profile bag which I buy for work related activities vs. weekend wear with jeans.
Chanel is my favorite brand and just recently I finally found an SA I love, but I agree with the black Classic Flap. For 12 years I used it less than a handful of times! The popularity and ease to get did not make me feel special using it in any way. I realized I am never going to magically turn into a classic flap girl. Even the medium is not light and can't crossbody so forget everyday or casual days. On special occasions, I much rather use a bag more trendy and unique. Yes, the stupid price increase deters me even more. Just because most people love it, doesn't mean I have to. I prefer the minis much more. As for the lambskin, I'm tired of worrying about something that is suppose to give me joy. I'm certainly not changing myself for any bag. XO
I guess it really depends which Chanel store you are at? I’ve had one Chanel bag and a bracelet repaired for free in a HK store. They send the bag back to France to fix it for me, takes longer but it’s totally free. Every time I’m in a Chanel store, HK or Europe, the sales are all really nice. I think your mentality shapes how ppl treat you. If you go in thinking the sales won’t be welcoming, then they probably won’t.
I totally agree with you on everything. However, I love Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Goyard because of their history. LV had the same monogram since their inception and Chanel reissued was the first bag they introduced. Buying for a piece of history. It is kind of like a piece of art. However, I do agree with you that I wish their quality is still there. As for consignment sites. I feel like some bags on the consignment sites are completely over priced given that they have any corner wear and tear. Once leather has torn it can technically never be repaired and the "life" of the bag may not last as long as if one actually buys a brand new bag.
This bag is my dream bag for like 6 years now. So... I'll probably buy it anyways, but I'll seriously consider your advice of buying it second hand. ;)
Another problem you forgot to mention, the higher the demand (including on re-sale websites) leads to a lot of fakes out there, especially good quality fakes 🙁. Ruins it for pre-loved shoppers like me. Anyway, love your content, personality and your chill voice! You seem very intelligent, you got a new subscriber 💖💖💖
I just recently bought a Brand New Chanel Pink Lambskin Mini Rectangular in Matt Gold Hardware and the wear and tear is so bad that I’ve already sent it to the boutique for repairs, despite only wearing the bag for 2-3 times. All four corners have scuffs, and chain straps looks like they’re falling apart. Chanel did not charge me for the repairs but for collection poorly done the 4 corners and have forgotten about the chain strap. This compared to my old Chanel bags has a visible quality difference. My black Lambskin Mini has no scuffs at all, and no wear can be seen despite frequent wear and no babying of it. I’m looking to buy, going forward, from resellers. The latest collections just gets more and more expensive whilst quality being lower and lower. Very disappointing. But SAs thus far whom I’ve met are nice enough, but customer service can be improved (providing advice on styles, serving drinks automatically instead of being asked, etc)
Great advice! I personally bought a brand new small Classic Flap from the boutique in Melbourne Australia last year in a seasonal navy colour. It was my 21st birthday gift from all my friends and family. The customer service was so so, like it was fine but I didn’t get any information on the bag or customer care or anything from the SA, I didn’t get champagne or anything, just sparkling water. I was a little disappointed but I didn’t care because I was like wooooo I got my first Chanel bag. But then about a day later when I opened it up I noticed that the stitching on one of the quilts was completely missing. As if someone had pulled them out and just left the sewing holes. I immediately rang customer service and they were incredibly rude. They asked me to take photos and send them in, and contact my boutique. They said basically that there wouldn’t be much they can do other than send it to Sydney for repairs and that it would take 6 weeks. I was very very annoyed at this point and argued that I should have my bag replaced or refunded and they were very non receptive. Anyway I made an appointment with the boutique but couldn’t get one with the manager of the store because she was away. I had to basically threaten to tell everyone I know about my terrible experience in order for them to replace my bag that I paid $6450 dollars for. They tried to tell me that because it was seasonal they couldn’t get a replacement, so I said well I want a brand new black one in that case, I don’t want a brand new bag that needs to be repaired. Eventually they shipped a replacement one down from Sydney for me and swapped it. (God knows that probably just fixed up my faulty bag and resold it.) it really ruined my whole experience, I love the bag, but the lambskin is dry and very delicate. I don’t think I will ever purchase in store again, only pre loved from now on. Please don’t buy anything from the Chanel boutique without finding a great sales associate first! Otherwise it can be a world of difficultly.
Marissa Sullivan gosh, just reading that makes me angry! Yes, I also swore to myself that I only buy at Chanel boutiques when I get lucky and meet a truly competent and polite SA. That story of yours shows everything that should NEVER happen with a brand like Chanel.💓
You are very right when it comes to customer service. I am always very surprised by the desire of many women to be humiliated in the hope of buying a bag in a Hermes boutique, for example
I’m a fairly new customer but I’ve had very good service with Chanel maybe I’ve been lucky but they have always been helpful I managed to get all bags I wanted mini coco , classic mini despite demand
Brillant video! Just discovered your channel. Totally agree, I'm lucky to have a couple of chanel handbags and exactly for the reasons you mention I've only purchased one of them new from the boutique. I cannot justify the price increase.
I agree with you I had came into a lot of money I was thinking about purchasing a Chanel purse but for many reasons I didn't and I'm glad I didn't mainly because of the chains I don't like the heaviness of the chains. I ended up purchasing Soho hobo Gucci purse which I really adore and is one of my favorite purses that I own today
I finde the Gucci Soho line to be one of the best Gucci ever made - the leather and hardware are so high quality and stunning and the design is totally timeless!
Larisa Inic - totally agree with you!
Hermès I’m sure..it’s all marketing. Reverse psychology
That’s actually a beautiful comment. I hope your piano continues to bring you joy 💓
I agree. It's impossible to play Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto on a Classic Flap. I invested in Murray Pariah's stunning interpretation - much cheaper and gave me a lot more pleasure than any bag ever could.
Wow,that's absolutely a great choice. Besides, I would rather buy a Rolex with diamonds than a Chanel bag.
You made a wise decision! Congrats!
TtrinhT thank you for your feedback! I am glad you enjoyed the video and what I wanted to say ! 💕
did you know that she only have ONE chanel bag and she also in her current video wish list she want to get chevron chanel bag? she is hypocrite., shame on her.
Reason 1 : I AM BROKE...
hahahahahahahahaha i love how ive found myself on this video as if i was considering buying a Chanel bag when i cant even buy fuel
Holly Skerritt I love this! So funny ... so true! 😂🤣😂 xxx
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
I got gifted a chanel medium classic a year ago by my husband ... after 1 month and used it twice. The thread on the flap became loose and sticking out . luckily we went back to chanel and got a refund. But the sale assistant wasnt really friendly. Never again
wendy Wendy I had same issue but they didn’t refund. Only offered an exchange where due to VAT i paid 300$ more. Really terrible service I agree with u. (im talking about Dubai boutique)
They all super nice when you buy. When you come back for return good luck to you it's like winning lottery if you get the refund.
Sophie Mary wo in Hamburg?
I could not agree more !!
Lol 😆
Đéo Ai Được Yêu Em wtf?! Name brand bags made years ago are still luxury because of the name.
@@thevietsubvevo1 let me guess you are new money aint you 😅🤣
Hello I’am a student from France in fashion industry and some bags are now fabricated in China but the montage (I don’t know if we say it like that) is made in France. They can have the French luxury label. So don’t by Chanel beg in store I recommended vintage
Claudia Hount. By montage, you mean the assembly. Yes, all the pieces are from China, but since they put it together in France or Italy, it can be labeled as from there.
Wow thank you for sharing. I have few pieces vintage LV and love them.
You think the bag takes 50 USD worth of work? Where is it made? The prison?
ceciLOVEtaco actually, as someone working on the making of such items, I beg to differ.
And no, I don’t work for Chanel ;)
Sorry for the very long reply, I just really liked your way of analyzing the question very logically and thought it might be interesting to "talk" to you
I hope I didn’t bore you and that you had a nice day :)
This makes me so sad! I’ve always wanted a Chanel bag but this has changed my mind. Maybe I’ll look into finding a vintage
I agree. Preloved and vintage is better quality. I have new and vintage...vintage still looks better than the new one and the vintage is over 20’s years old!
That´s actually crazy, isn´t it?!
Correct. Chanel's quality has really gone down through out the years. Which is ridiculous because they do price increases two times a year. The price increase does not reflect the quality which is currently going down
vintage is even more special I think 😍
I have a couple vintage chanel pearl necklaces and they look better than some of the petal necklaces today lol
Depends on where you are, in Paris they’re actually really kind and helpful, never had a bad experience in it
Sonia me too! I bought the Chanel classic mini in Paris and had such a good time 🥂
I said to myself years before that, I won’t by lux bags unless I will have at least $30,000 in my bank account so now I have more than $60,000 saving in my account.
MissPandora thank you so much, I really appreciate that!💓💓💓
I agree! This video was on point. I really enjoyed it. Thank you!
You are right I took my Chanel jumbo to the shop after using it for a month I notice the lock is fading and this bag is £4800 , the quality is terrible if you can buy vintage please do I wish I knew I wouldn’t have bought it new .
really? My mum had hers for YEARS and it still looks brand new... same with her jumbo and mini ones...
Oh dear, did you take it back to the store and complain?
I bought my first classic flap yesterday and the sales associate was extremely nice to me and explained the history and everything :) not rude at all!
That’s great to hear!
Terrible aftercare!
horrible!
The demand has also benefited the "super fakes" market. With the increase of the classic flap's visibility everywhere, I don't assume it is authentic.
+ Deirdre Frutiger
News flash people don't CARE that YOU think it's authentic.
@@Phogadacbiet damn chill its just his opinion...
I own dupe and i love it
i honestly rather own a dupe than contribute to these multi billionaire brands
The superfakes are even better made than the authentics especially for Chanel. If I ever decided to get one I’d def get a superfake.
Also Chanel bags are for those who can easily afford such luxuries, ie not for those who complain about the price increases.
Brit Chić well said!
WakinTheDeadFan : yes 👏🏾
Lydia A : I agree BUT I’m talking about those who buy high-end luxury bags outside their budget to give the illusion that they are …
There are many people who max out their credit cards, get themselves into debt, etc just to rock that bag, shoes, designer clothes, etc - fake rich 🤷🏽♀️
This video was not only informative, but hilarious AF 😂😂. Great content!!
baileypup05 thank you, I am glad I entertained you💗🙌
I fully agree with you. The service in them expensive stores is horrible. They are rude. Zero interest and no kindness. Awful
Totally agree with you. The price is increase but the quality is decrease.
Phoebe Gavin Informative comment! I never thought about bag types specific to the area.
Love the way you kept the bag in shot the whole video, don’t know why but I always prefer videos where the product spoken about is in shot 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
So true , I’ve also had bad service when I went to look at a Chanel bag.
I love how your thumbnail looks like a mugshot 😂
I'm in my late 40s and watching your vlogs. Smart content young lady 👏✨
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much! I bought my Chanel bag 13 years ago for my 40th bday. Glad I did it when I did it. Very informative video.
I agree with everything you said. I purchased a Chanel reissue over the classic cc’s because I wanted a bag I could crossbody. I love the understated look of it and it doesn’t weigh as much as the classic cc’s.
Equeen 75 I love the Reissue, too! Perfect more understated alternative to the classic flap! ✌️❤️
I agree ! Yes that is why I have stopped buying Louis Vuitton because everyone has one.
see? when smoke clears people start seeing the things the way they really are. 20 years ago I told everyone crying over Louis Vuitton "never full' bag it's an ugly bag in vomit and shit colours. Did anyone listen? NO. fast forward to today, those ladies put diapers and baby items in the same luxury bags. That must tell you enough.
@@julijakeit Brilliant! You nailed it.
You know what no one has for a purse/wallet that can hold a lot of items???? Condoms...go on start a trend, they're cheap, hold your stuff in place, and you can get off the Louis/Chanel/fashion bandwagon because everyone has one!

Forgot to mention that Chanel doesn’t accommodate to any customer service needs of your bags are more than five years old.
That's not true, my bag is 10 years old and the stitches came off, they made it for me for free (Chanel shop Amsterdam, the Netherlands).
@@m.veldman5681 I guess the rule only applies to some shops then? There have been youtubers and people on forums complaining about customer service refusing to touching bags more than 5 years old as of last year.
@@curlykutie you're correct that is the policy in the US
I couldn't agree more with everything you said.
Even if I was rich wont buy expensive bags..Do you know how much I can help the poor?? And see there smiling faces..PRICELESS♡

If you're rich, then you do both. They buy luxury goods and still have plenty of money for charity.

Alejandra Baidoc absolutely not 🙌
Your commentary is hilarious!
Needless to say, My husband is VERY indulgent, to me!🥰
Hey, good for you! If you love your bags and you get your wear out of them then enjoy these three beauties!💖😀
This was so real and honest! I’ve wanted a Chanel bag for a while now, but I can’t see myself purchasing it for the price tag. I will take all of the things you mentioned and do my research before making such a hefty purchase later on down the line.
Thank you, I am glad you found the video useful! I will go for preloved when it comes to classic Chanel in the future 💖
Of course, you are right, there are always individual experiences that can be amazing and that is great!
You point out very valuable information, and the fact that I have to agree with you makes me sad 😢. Especially about customer service 🙈
I've never had problems with my Chanel bags. I love them all! If you can afford them and love them buy them.
i cant disagree with anything you've said here - well done good video. very refreshing to see a youtuber who looks great and normal on camera👌👌
Iveagh 32 Thank you so much, I really appreciate your words! 💓
I have always felt customer service were wonderful. Speaking of Chanel Boutiques in Paris mother store, Lafayette mall(spelling wrong),New york, and others. Always always wonderful to me. Guess I was lucky!!
If i bought a bag that price i couldnt sleep at nights but to each his own.😊
I bought a black single flap bag (new) 12 years ago totally impractical can't fit anything much in it so I sold it! I also bought a limited edition gold double flap bag from New York and sold that one too I prefer the bigger larger flap bags and vintage ones at that!
I think they're rude because they can't afford to own one and you're in there buying it's a case of sour lemons
I prefer to buy Louis Vuitton the staff were lovely and friendly in Melbourne
I also bought an YSL bag which was nicer than both my Chanel bags and cheaper and you can wear it crossbody and it fits more things in it much more practical
The staff in the Louis Vuitton store on the Champs Elysee Paris were excellent the best customer service I've had
Yes, I also find that the YSL bags are great alternatives to Chanel!
Thank you for your kind words! 💓I had the best experience with Celine (at least during the old days) and always Dior!
Thank you so much!💖
You are exactly right about the customer service.
Silv such a shame for a brand with such a rich and unique heritage :(
Finally some one with some sense! I never have been drawn to these products for some reason.
I really like the understated look of the 2.55, too!:
You made me think when you said check your motivations! I agree I’m going to buy this expensive bag and it ISN’T going to make me richer! Lol I’m taking it off of the top of my wishlist, I rather buy 3 designer bags for the price of 1 chanel. You gained a subbie and thumbs up from me thanks for being honest. I still love your bag 😩😂❤️❤️❤️
Mocha thank you very much, I am glad you enjoyed the video! I still love Chanel for its heritage and if you decide a Chanel is the right bag for you, there’s nothing wrong with that. We should just do it for us and not because of what other people may think of us💓
Omg! I love your candor and sense of humor. Thank you for your review.
Cannot agree more about how appalling the customer service is
Right on. Preloved is the way to go
the only company that makes it hard to get bags truly are hermes with their birkins and kelly and now constance. chanel will sell you anything if you got the money tbh
I agree , Hermes is the ultimate when it comes to luxury!
Yes. I will tell you from experience you are right on. Thanks for sharing:)
Bravo! Thank you for sharing most honest assessment regarding Chanel bags. You are spot on with our dollars being our voice for all.

I have the mini rectangular which I do wear crossbody. I am planning on buying the classic in medium size. This is a high profile bag which I buy for work related activities vs. weekend wear with jeans.
Great points, never considered the craftsmanship that may decline due to mass production over a period of time.
XO
Absolutely. I have a vintage D&B from the 80’s that has NO signs of wear. I use it every single day. And worlds cheaper than a Chanel.
Personally think it's better to buy from the boutique! The prices for pre loved are ridiculous!! Enjoyed your video!
If somebody looks up to Gabrielle, than reissue would be a better option, as it was actually designed be her. Classic flaps are more for Karl’s fans.
I know, I learned that along the way, but as I grew up the Classic Flap was just the more iconic bag so it stuck with me more, you know.
Wow! It's the first channel which gives honest opinions about luxury brand (I love chanel cosmetics, though). Subscribed! Geeks are really chick :)
Thank thank you very much! I like a couple of their cosmetics, too :)
This bag is my dream bag for like 6 years now. So... I'll probably buy it anyways, but I'll seriously consider your advice of buying it second hand. ;)
Prices just went up. You'll have to save a bit more now for the same bag smh
@@Ms_T_Perfectly_Imperfect I saw it, well I wont go to the bank for a loan, to buy a bag faster xDDDDDDDDDDD
I am sorry to hear that! Thank you for sharing your experience anyway! 💓🙏🏻
