Action Retro sent me here and I am so glad he did. This is adorable! I remember all the Apple IIs and Macs we had at my school. Always felt futuristic compared to the DOS machines I was use to at my friend's houses. I also fondly remember the chorus of boot up chimes as we all sat down in computer class to start our machines! :p

I grew up in the 1980s and my first contact with computers of any sort was in the classroom and it was an Apple II and it hooked me for life.
From that point onward I searched up anything I could on programming and got my own 8 bit computer (not an Apple though) soon after. From what I can recall most schools that I was in used their limited number of Apple II's (TRS-80's were common also) in their TAG program (talented and gifted). I can remember arriving early to school to go to the tag room in order to use the apple in order to program or use the dial out MODEM.
At home I was a Commodore kid all the way. When I became a junior in high school in 1986 my school offered a computer programming class, which was all Apple IIs using BASIC. By this time I had been programming in BASIC since 1979/80 and had written my own BBS software for my C64. I aced the class with a perfect 100.
Many years later after a stint in the military I was back at the University of Oklahoma to finish my degree in computer science education and the school I was student teaching at in 1998 had all Macs. I don't remember the model, but they were actually semi-old already.

I was born in Houston in 1990 and I distinctly remember playing Word Muncher and Kid Pix on my elementary school’s Apple computers. Kid Pix was always my favorite game on those. It was kinda like MS Paint on the bulky Windows desktop my parents had. Except... you know... Kid Pix was good. Among other bits of dedicated art software from that era like Mario Paint for the SNES, I also credit Kid Pix for sparking my interest in animation and art.

I grew up in Sacramento, CA during the 80s. I was in 2nd grade around 1989. I remember our classroom had an Apple II. I learned a lot about programing and I remember we would make our own images by mapping out each pixel. It was a lot of fun. I remember always playing this Mickey Mouse game where he went to space with Pluto. I would talk about it so much after school that my parents actually got one. My dad's work used IBM so our next computer was a Windows 3.1 machine and every future computer was Windows. I wish we had stuck with Apple.

I really wish I knew what computers my school used. I know we had Macintosh Color Classics, but there was another classroom with older computers with green monochrome monitors and a couple color monitors. My best guess is that they were Apple iis, it's been killing me for years! Anyways, great video! Keep it up.

Having spent a life working in retail in London, I eventually ended up working in a London School in the 1990s.
My experience of computers had been less than inspiring.
Eventually I as shown a Mac computer and Claris works 2 and Pagemaker 4.
It was a great experience which left me a Mac user.
The school used to get discounts on Apple Computers. I don't know if it still happens today.
When the Unix server died they started moving over to Windows computers.

Cool video! When my grade school got its first batch of Apple IIs they didn't have a dedicated computer teacher or anyone who was experienced with them, so my grandfather ended up helping the school set them all up. As a retired teacher they even asked him to teach a few class sessions one day a week until the position was funded the next year. Very cool memories of getting out of class early to go help him setup Logo and Number Munchers on all the machines :)

We had Windows 98 machines when I started school, upgraded to XP in 2005. When I started band class in middle school, my band teacher had an iMac G3. I got extra credit for helping him tear it down to put in more RAM, A 250gb hard drive, an airport card, and reinstall OS/9 and the new (at the time) Tiger. I was in love with Mac ever since.

When Broward county here in Florida started to move away from Macs, I was kind of disappointed. When I started high school in 2018, I bought a MacBook Pro because I wanted to continue using Apple products throughout my educational experience. Watching this got me thinking back to my early computer experiences in school. We didn't have a dedicated one in any of my regular classes, but the library had a few Apple IIe and IIgs in a small computer lab in a portable building. My G/T classes had an IBM PCjr. and an Apple IIe, and when I went to middle school it was all PC based computers. Didn't get to use Macs too often until I was off to college and by that point it was PowerMacs, I cut my teeth learning rudimentary layout and visual design on 7500s. Bought my own Mac in 2003 and haven't looked back since. Love the channel.

Pretty much was iMac G3s all through middle school. Highschool was mostly Dells running Windows 2000, and a few computer labs still rocking the iMac G3's running OS9

Excellent video! And if you got back another 10 years, the Bell & Howell Apple II/IIPlus in all it's black finished glory was introduced to the schools via the AV departments. The "Backpack" made it easier for the computers to interface to the TV's on the carts and other BNC equipment in use by AV setups in schools. B&H had contracts with many school systems so it made it easier to make it inside. This campaign really got Apple mainstreamed by then. Excellent video and presentation.

At the schools outside of houston in 87-93 or so, there were nothing but apples for the kids, but the faculty seemed to use IBM PCs. When I went into high school programming class, we used PCs. However, in Jr. high, I took a programming class and we used Apple II. In elementary school, they were really pushing typing more than computer usage, but because we got time after typing drills on Apple II software, they'd let us run Number Munchers and stuff. An elementary school across town I was bussed to on Mondays had just been newly built and thus had all new IIGS in all of their labs, but unfortunately, we didn't get to use them all that often. Thinking back, I think the teachers were a little weary about letting these really nice computers be handled by rowdy kids...lol

I spent a lot of my time around Apple in my early childhood. Apple IIe, IIGS, and then the Macintosh Classic in around 1990. My step-father had a Macintosh SE (Dual 800K / 20MB) that he gave to me when I was a teen, which I upgraded to 2.5MB of RAM. That carried me throughout high school until 1996. My parents bought a PowerMac 6100/60 when they gave the SE to me. Fun times throughout. I was exposed to XT/286 systems at the same time as the IIe to the Macintosh Classic, but the Macintosh was superior in comparison.

Growing up in the 90s, I thought Macintosh held a monopoly on computers since I saw them frequently in elementary and middle school. The only other computer I was exposed to that wasn’t a Mac was a Commodore 64 that my aunt’s friend owned sometime in the 80s/90s (I only learned as I got older of the existence of Windows 3.1, Tandy computers, Amiga, etc) It wasn’t until I gotten to high school that I started seeing Windows based computers (At the time some version of Windows NT before Windows 2000’s release), yet there were still more Mac devices than Windows machines. Most of the Macs I’ve seen and used were situated in ether the library or in a digital graphics classroom while the Windows machines were set up in a computer lab for programs that cannot run on a Mac (and likely to have high schoolers get used to IBM computers)
I still remember learning typing in middle school on a System 7/8 computer. I don’t remember which model it was other than I can recall it was an all-in-one form factor that had a built in monitor, two speakers, a CD tray and a floppy drive. Booting up an emulator of SheepShaver with OS 9 does bring up nostalgia of my youth.

This was really neat, and the 2nd video too about MECC. I queued up the rest of the vids to watch. The cadre of retro mac peeps is really neat. PM'd your IG. I wish I would have found this channel sooner! thx!
