- Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC, the Irish lawyer serving as Counsel and Advocate for the Republic of South Africa to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), delivered a statement in The Hague on Thursday, January 11.
Her closing "stunning closing statement" was praised by many. Watch it here in full.
“There is an urgent need for provisional measures to protect Palestinians in Gaza from the irreparable prejudice caused by Israel’s violations of the Genocide Convention,” Ní Ghrálaigh told the court on Thursday.
"There could not be a clearer or more compelling case."
She asserted: “It is becoming ever clearer that huge swathes of Gaza - entire towns, villages, refugee camps - are being wiped from the map."

When Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh was 12 years old, she found a pamphlet in one of her mother’s bookcases. It showed a picture of a girl her own age. She read it from cover to cover, and it brought her to tears.
The pamphlet was about Irish schoolgirl Majella O’Hare, who was shot in the head by a British paratrooper in 1976 as she walked past an army checkpoint. She died in her father’s arms after he heard the shot and went running to her.
Ní Ghrálaigh went to her mother crying, asking how such a terrible thing could have happened. Her mother’s response? “Do something about it.”
she decided to come a human rights lawyer at the tender age of 12.
After the many years of becoming a professional and top human rights lawyer her journey ultimately lead her to defend our Palestinian brothers and sisters. I can think of few better ways to honour the memory of Majella than defending all the children men and women of Palestine from their oppressors

She conveniently forgot to mention they cut breasts off women, and mutilated the genitalia of women and men. She conveniently never mentioned the hamas charter in which they openly call for the annihilation (the call for a real genocide) of Israel and ALL JEWS WORLDWIDE. I could go on, but you get the picture and if you don't your beyond the realms of human.

This legal representative is all about emotion and little about the legal understanding about "intent". This is a very poor legal presentation. What blew my mind was, that it is a legal requirement for South Africa to open a dialogue with Israel, before entering it's case before the ICJ. This never happened.

The legacy of Nelson Mandela is clear to see and magnificent to behold. As for Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh KC, she has a difficult name to remember but I will try and imprint it on my memory. A moment in history when some of the dense and misleading fog of the western mainstream media was blown away and people who wanted to know the truth (and some of those who didn't) were confronted with it. I cried when she showed the last words of the MSF doctor hastily written on the whiteboard:
" to anybody left behind, we did what we could"
before the IDF killed him. I cried again when I wrote these words. Dr Mahmood Abunajelah you were remembered by Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh and thanks to her, the world and history will remember your story and your truth.
The South African team has showed the world the truth, nothing but facts and the truth is horrifying. May God bless single one of them as they have certainly done their duty towards humanity.
