As a huge Mechagodzilla fan this makes me SO happy. I take pride in the fact I was born the same year Mechagodzilla came out. Such an awesome robot and this looks like it's going to be one of those epic builds.
A few years ago I wanted to make a costume of mechagodzilla but never found a good tutorial/video of people making it, this is exactly what I needed! Thanks Odin!
god when i saw the thumbnail for this i lit up with joy. godzillas been a huge part of my life so seeing someone make a suit of one of my favorite godzilla antagonists is just such a wonderful thing
As a lifelong Godzilla fan and MechaGodzilla (1.0 and 2.0), MechaGodzilla 2 (and Super Version), and of course MechaGodzilla 3 (AKA Kiryu, and it’s upgraded version) I cannot express how much I LOVE THIS!!!!
Odin, I want you to know how much I appreciate you making a video like this. When I was younger I would scour UA-cam for a video like this but I never would have found one. Now that day has finally come, thank you.
As a lifelong fan of Godzilla, I have a very special place in my heart for the original 1974 Mechagodzilla. This is an amazing project and I am so stoked to see you making this bit by bit! Heck, I have that figure you were using and that alone made me a tiny bit giddy, but holy crap did seeing the head come to life like that make me happy.
Fun Fact: Mechagodzilla is the only Kaiju suit from the Showa Era to still exist as the materials for the other suits have rotted for the past 45 years.
OH MAN, I've been meaning to make a '74 MechaGodzilla suit for almost 10 years now, and I've had to put it off because of budget, workspace and storage space reasons. THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing this project! :D
This is definitely now one my favorite things you’ve ever made. Showa Mechagodzilla is one of the best Toho monsters. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
@@OdinMakes that’s so cool! Also, fun fact: According to WikiZilla, this MechaG has an ability called “Desto-Fire,” where it can “launch flaming, 500,000°C bullets from its nose.” This has also been adapted into a flamethrower type weapon in some video game appearances. So yes, ‘74 MechaG DOES have snot rockets.
@@ChozoSR388 my ONE gripe with the Bandai vinyl, as a figure, is the arm pose anyway. But since Odin's using it for measurements, the fact that the arms are out to the sides is actually helpful. That's another thing the X-Plus won't help with.
The figure used is pretty neat, I have it too. I love how they decided to add all the hand made imperfections from the original. Sadly when I bought mine it had no jaw! I'll either have to make one or find a replacement somewhere.
I would love to see more Kaiju's! Especially given a lot of them were actually made as costumes it'd be so cool to see somebody make a Gamera or Ultraman
Fun fact, according to various informational books, this version of Mechagodzilla can shoot fire out of his nostrils. We just never see him do it in the movies
Thank you Don! MG is my favorite. I can remember getting the little sets of imported Godzilla toys just because it had Mechagodzilla in it. I love all the model sets in the movies.
This is why I subscribed to your channel. I cannot express how long I waited for you to make something Godzilla related, and to start with the OG Mechagodzilla?! Mad respect. You made me want to create a wrist gauntlet with foldable blades from the Predator series (I achieved my goal for two weeks, then it broke; to be fair, it was cardboard and lollipop stick and hot glue...The blades were on a very simple hinge, they flipped outwards to retract and extend, and they were also the right distance from one another, I cried for the rest of the month after they broke). Your devotion to prop making is super inspiring. It made me want to create D&D minis and battle map decorations, it fueled my resolve to keep creating Predator weapons made out of cardboard and superglue... You are truly the Allfather of Prop-Making, Odin. Thank you
Fantastic timing! I just got the Criterion collection of Showa movies and have been on a Godzilla kick lately! Last night I was listening to the soundtrack to Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, one of the most distinctive of the entire series. And that Toho-esque intro is boss.
Fun Facts: the suit actor's head was actually in mechagodzilla's neck and fact 2: Fire was supposed to have fire coming out of it but they didn't use it
I'm a huge Godzilla fan and I never knew that he was originally going to breath fire, it's probably a good idea that they didn't end up doing that since the actors head was right underneath where the flames would be projecting out and the majority of the suit being made of different rubbers and plastics.
Thank you! I wanted a simple hinge, and for the natural state to be closed. The springs I used came from the giant ornaments I used in Soul Edge and the Melty Stick.
Would be fun if it had a voicebox so you could make it roar when you open its mouth. Making lightwork for his various weapons though would be a lot trickier. So far so awesome.
I've loved all your builds. But this one has me so giddy. I am a massive Godzilla fan and the fact you're doing old school Mechagodzilla. The anticipation for the next installment is gonna drive me nuts. Can't wait for it to be done and see you stomping around. You should build a little cityscape to demolish once you finish. Keep up the fantastic work. Because nobody makes like Odin makes.
Odin thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a huge Godzilla fan and want to make this exact cosplay one day. I look forward to the future parts. I am planning on making a life size Oxygen Destroyer from the first Godzilla movie. Stay safe Oden
