I was very busy and stressed during high school, couldn't make it my priority. Didn't learn anything during any of the years except from some auto class that I didn't care about in my freshman class, recently dropped out and got a job, gonna take my GED very soon
Thanks for sharing your story!! Make sure that you have a really good reason WHY you want to get your GED. It is best for you to get your GED soon, but if you don't have a really good reason why, you might have the same attitude that you had in high school. Believe in yourself, and just get this done!!!
I'm glad I dropped out and honestly it didn't effect my life, I still know everything actually important and still was able to get jobs. Now none of it matters though because I got diagnosed with a serious disease that causes severe chronic fatigue and am trying to get on disability. I think the most I could do is a part time job anymore and honestly that would take everything out of me. I got fired from my last job from falling asleep while working (wasn't diagnosed yet, was trying to figure out what was wrong with me still.) I'm to the point where some days I can barley stand, last week it felt like i hadn't eaten in a week but also just ran a mile. I couldn't stop shaking. I think graduating vs GED really mostly depends on what you plan to do in the future. If your just going to have some regular job it doesn't matter but if you plan on going to college or want to try to get jobs at higher class places you probably want that degree. It's good to decide and consider what kind of work you want to do and if you need that diploma to meet social standards.
Hi I’m 17 and my mom was on drugs really bad and didn’t send us to school and now I’m two years behind and going into my sophomore year when I’m supposed to be going into my senior year at this rate I’m not graduating till I’m 20 and idk I feel like I should just drop out and get my ged but what if I’m not smart enough... there is no going back. If u were in my exact situation what would you do ?
First of all, don't be discouraged!! I know it's hard not to be, but you sound like you are motivated and you will get this done! I recommend going to your local adult basic education center and taking the pre-test (TABE test in my area). This will give an idea of whether you have the skills necessary to pass the actual GED/HiSET/TASC test or if you are going to have to study a bit. This will help you determine if you should drop out of school or not. Remember, this is a very personal decision. Don't let anyone make you feel bad about what you decide. Second (but I don't really need to say this to you), don't do drugs! See what it has done to your mom... You can have an AMAZING LIFE, but if you take the route of drugs, your life will spiral down instead of up. Many, many of my students that have done drugs have told me this. :) I'll be posting many more videos about earning a GED, so stay tuned if you choose this route! :) I believe in you!
I actually graduated from High School five years ago, but I was a special needs student and didn’t even get a diploma. I was really upset about that because I wanted to go to college, but I realized that I would have very limited options. In my state, they have these “LIFE programs” which are college programs specifically designed for students with intellectual disabilities, but even those programs don’t offer traditional credentials either. Rather, just experience. I really wanted to get a degree because I want to be a special Ed teacher, and I knew that the LIFE Programs would only take me so far. Also there are only six of these programs in my state. I believed I was capable of traditional college and I have now had my GED for two years. Best decision I ever made because for me, I broke a stereotype that has been following me all my life.
so i turn 18 in September and i want to wait to take my tests after since i live in pa but i want to drop out now and start going to ged classes and i’m stuck bc i’m in between ages
Well, if you are enrolled in an adult education program for GED classes, you should be able to take the tests once your state approves you. :) No need to wait until September if you score well prepared on the practice tests!
hi I’m 15 and I’m considering dropping out & just getting my ged, i don’t want to just drop out and not have a job though, do you have any tips for me cause I’m scared i might not have a future career if i do drop out
Many decades ago, I dropped out of high school and got a GED. It was one of the best things I've ever done. The high school I went to was completely militaristic, and dystopian. The teachers there treated students like potential suspects every single day, and shoved worthless classes down my throat that had no relevance to real life and working life (trigonometry and physics, for example). The typical school day was equal parts anger, verbal abuse, and mental cruelty. My old high school was a place where hope goes to die. I put up with three-and-one-half years of one indignity after another before I finally reached the breaking point, and I finally threw in the sponge to save my sanity and self-respect. Nobody can be successful under dehumanizing conditions like that, nor would want to. So, my life experience suggests to me that high school does more harm than benefit, particularly if the curriculum does nothing to benefit a student's future, as what happened to me. Since then, I've been blessed to do well in both college and law school after the train wreck that was my life in high school. Thus, I have a GED, along with a BS, MS, JD, and 2 LLMs. Thus, I can bring my GED into any room and never be insecure about it.
Wow! Thank you for sharing your story. I am glad to hear that you have become so successful. Yes, I believe that people should be so proud to receive their GED!
