    I'm new to InDesign and have been at this for four hours watching different videos. I almost gave up till I stumbled on your video. Thank you so much, Luke! It was that one baseline height that fixed everything. :')

    For those confused by 10:30 keep your eye on his bottom margin. he edited out the step where he moves his bottom margin up. this makes this part of the video extremely confusing

      Yes so crazy and confusing. Do you know he moved it up where? In margins? I thought that was already adjusted b/c of the 5 rows of 11 not being exact. Anyhow is it margins? How do you know how much to adjust I tried going up and down: nothing changed. This part of the tutorial is really lacking. Shame other then that it was a great tutorial.

    FINALLY someone who can explain grids so I can understand. I've been so frustrated with people making it so complicated! I can now use this simple formula on **ANY** size document and ANY orientation! Finally, very easy to understand. Thank you so much for sharing!

    Thank you so much, no one really seems to explain how to deal with that misalignment that happens when you try to match the layout grid with the baseline grid, even if you use the same value of pts as derived from the leading. Great clear explanation!

    Awesome! While following your steps on the video to exact detail, I was stumped why my grid rows weren’t matching up to the baseline grid, but when I finally worked out why, it was a great lightbulb moment! (So, the video seems to skip the step of adjusting the margin up from the bottom to accommodate the missing gutter - a hugely important detail !) However, great tutorial and brilliant explanation at a great pace. Thanks for teaching me something new. :)

    Hello Luke! Great tutorial, I like how you speak slow and explain everything as you go. So helpful. I did have one problem though, when setting up the rows after calculating the rows, and how they are not perfectly evenly lined up due to the fact that there is one missing gutter which was explained. The next step was to go back into create guides: put the same 5 rows in for rows, 13 pt for the gutter only difference this time was checking remove ruler guides so it would not keep the previous settings (which I did) and then putting the same exact settings as the first time (5 & 13pt) but a second time: but then should get different results? I did screen shots at both points in the video thinking I missed something but when looking at the screen shots they indeed had the same settings the only difference of course is the having not saving the ruler checked. I thought to myself how is putting the same exact settings in the same place lead to different results? And sure enough nothing changed: the guides were like the first time: not lining up due to the missing gutter. You explained that you have to move the margins up or down one baseline, but explained going back into "create guides" and put in the same exact settings. Did you mean to go to margins? Is there a step missing?I am VERY confused. Could you possibly explain? Thanks so much.

    I don't understand. At 10.33, when you are trying to align the grid to baseline grid, you are doing the exact same thing, over again, only this time you are checking on "remove existing ruler guides"? I even tried moving my margin one up or one down. nothing changed :(

    • @vicky060496
      @vicky060496 4 роки тому

      You should adjust the margin in the bottom area of the page, infact he get the correct align cause he leave one baseline unit of the margin. 10:26 the baseline unit are 3 and after the adjustment of the margin in 10:27 are 4 (sorry for my bad explanation but however i had the same prob and now with the adjustment everything it's perfect)

    THESE ARE THE MEASUREMENTS I MANAGED TO SET FOR AN A4 SIZE:
    Baseline grid:
    Start 0cm from the top of the page.
    Increment every 12,952pt.
    Margins:
    Top, bottom, left and right: 2,7415cm every side.
    Columns: 3
    Gutter: 0,4569cm
    Create guides:
    11 guides.
    Gutter: 0,4569cm
    Fit guides to page.
    Hope this can help ✨

    Pretty much everything except where you tell it to align to grid. How do you tell it to align to grid?

    • @jonairais
      @jonairais 6 років тому

      In this step you move your bottom margin up and extra line (it goes from 3 to 4 lines at the bottom)

    • @thedvguy
      @thedvguy 6 років тому

      @@jonairais So, you're saying it's manual? There's no button to click to align to grid? I used to align to grid all the time in Quark XPress. All I did was click "Align to Grid". It made aligning text and images very easy. You could move things off grid if you liked, but the main composition elements were done automatically

    This is not working for me with 10pt leading. What am I doing wrong?

    • @drawitout
      @drawitout 3 роки тому

      Update: I didn’t figure out exactly what happened, but I think it was that the number of baselines I adjusted wasn’t working despite it being divisible. What I did to solve it was create a square in the dimensions of my leading (10pt) then duplicate it so that the spaces in between matched the number of rows I want. I made sure there was an additional square each above and below the margin lines so that I could then just use the Distribute Spacing option in the Align panel to determine the heights of the rows. It worked out really well.

    10:32 this is where you lose me, how did you get your guides to align this time because I did exactly what you did but didn't align like yours
    Edit
    I figured it out, he actually mentioned that you need to move your bottom margin up or down. I moved mine up. So my bottom margin ended up being 100pt, it should align after that

This tutorial is a hot mess. He even said it was the most important part and totally skipped a step just crazy and STILL doesn't work. Nuts.
