that's a really impressive mod, with a bit of polish it really should be a mechanic in the base game
yess 4 example phantom rock/snow or freezing/melting only happenigh in cycles
It never ceases to amaze me how the modders for CW4 manage to make _so_ many cool maps that feel like they have things that just belong in the base game. Huge thanks to Tom for showcasing so many of them!

The fluid dynamics and the mechanic of building frozen creep if the creep has been on a location for long enough is really interesting. Reminded me a lot of Yellowstone with the hot springs and mud flats.

Creep waves super sped up is now one of my most favorite things ever.
I have some maps with super sped up/slowed down waves. 0x 0.25x 0.5x 2x 4x 8x 16x. to play them enter prst in autor slot in colonies
It seems like the terrain is ice, but doesn't look like ice, which is what caused the problem at 12:10
I think the actual bug was the towers terraformed the ice, which made it look like normal terrain.
@@testing1567 no towers aren't the bug. it is happening moarless randomly when terraforming down that it looks and functions as rock and you can build on it but you can also melt it.
Alan W is correct, it not looking like ice is because the terrain was below the visual ice layer of 10 but above what the heater considers "ground". In hindsight I should have made it clear what is fully melted and what isn't.

The frozen layers of creep are amazing, especially when you have to make the conscious decision to release them!
I have a feeling the heater is a modded terraformer. If I had to guess, each tile has a "frozen" height, and a "melted" height. Terraform everything in the radius of the heater, and then spawn creep based on the difference between the melted height and the frozen height. Then just give the terrain color striations based on if it's "real" rock, or frozen creep.

imagine if the guns *had to* be close enough to a heater to operate.
hmmmm. ill steal the mod and disable building of pylons/towers and make heaters route ammo packets. that way they'll have 2 be close but still packet range will not change with melting range the modder will have 2 do something with that and I haven't contact 2 him
Map creator here, units used to die when not in range of a heater but this wasn't fun to play, so I disabled it. It could be reenabled by someone looking at the code, though it might be broken as I haven't checked it for a while.
@@up-level1683 having the units die is honestly overkill, probably why it wasn't fun. The energy economy hit from having to rebuild and not being able to react to it quickly (as I assume it'd happen instantly) was probably the main issue TBH.
Having units get disabled, maybe even after a few seconds, would work much better as it'd be possible to recoup the lost area much faster with very little energy economy hit, especially as the disabled weapons would still have ammo making taking back the lost area much faster.
@@8BitShadow The units took damage over time, but I agree disabling them instead would have been much better.
I'd never play this game, but for some reason I can sit through entire videos of this. Idk if its just Tom's glorious voice, or the colors are just really vibrant, and the games easy to look at.
Loved that concept. Would add some interesting mechanics to the core game. Hope someone keeps pushing the idea
The resource management required in this map is insane
what resource management? tom makes it seem that way but I played too and was constantly in a huge sur+ and had about the same time as tom
He did also choose the absolute most costly way to advance by keeping the attacks coming in on all fronts. Also known as the correct way.
When I saw this map, first thing I thought was "I really hope Tom does this one! It looks exactly like the kind of map he would enjoy!" And I am not disappoint! \o/

I tell you, watching the "ice" melt in the timelaps was super satisfying
Fun fact: Putting a shield over eggs actually disarms them so you can safely shoot them with snipers. without releasing any creep. Especially helpful when dealing with large egg clusters. I like to just plop dow an erned shield over the eggs and get done with them real easy. Also helps dealing with large egg spawning sporelaunchers as any new eggs immidiately get disarmed.

This was great. All the Mods for Creeper World 4 have really shown how great of a game it is.
This is fantastic. I love when maps actually have a failure state. The lite-play-as-creep maps are kind of boring, because theres no way to lose. Even if you go too slow and let AC build up, you usually haven't lost, it's just going to take forever.
It's always interesting just how creative these scenarios can be, it's really great.

I think this may have been better from a game design perspective if the heaters were map relics that you had to turn on, rather than something you could build yourself. Once it goes on it's bound to affect a large area, but if you then lose it at least you get some time before things re-freeze completely. To make it more thematic the melting could start closest to it and gradually expand further out.
The modability of CW4 is impressive. I didn’t even realize until later on that many endgame units like the Thor and Bertha were “modded” units made by the dev!

Point of fact: You can separately disable terraforming while still having Terps.
The editing on this was great! I loved the fast forward montage section. Very satisfying to watch + great music choice. Super creative map too. A real treat to watch!

nha...the game maker should just leet you have teraformers right away...after all ,start without a energy cube and the odd's you can produce enough energy to build up any sort of usefull wall or platue and still have stuff for your guns and missles etc... quite small
I think the reason for no terraformer is less to do with building yourself up, and more that the heater *is* the terraformer. Like it's been modded to auto terrain to a preprogrammed height in it's radius, and spawn the appropriate amount of creep.
@@ShardtheWolf quite likely ,still a shame but i guess remaking a terraformer from the ground up to have its own id and effect etc is a bit overkill for a ''fun quirk map'' like that
