Best review I’ve seen!!! I’m not one to leave comments but my goodness I had to. I’ve spent hours clicking on and off other UA-camrs because they don’t walk you through all the settings and how to use it. You go through everything so quickly while being informative, and keeping my attention the whole time. I could buy this and jump right in because I now know how to navigate this. Freaking awesome review. Seriously!! I could have saved hours of my life if I just watched you in the first place. Hats off to you.
Could you please show how handwritten notes look on the screen, instead of just doodling? A lot of us really want to use these units as notepads, but that feature often gets overlooked - precision, lag time, resolution (how small one can write), screen resistance, etc. Thanks.
Yeah, I care mostly about the writing since that's predominantly what I'll use it for, oh and reading PDFs. Thinking Note Air 3 C may be a better choice though for writing though.
@@FelixGaunt Sounds like you might be more of a Remarkable or a Supernote customer...?
You can have ink down to 1pt so you can get really small. You can zoom into the canvas or you can extend the size of it or just keep it as a regular notebook and turn off scaling. I notice zero latency and the resistance is the most like writing on paper. But it’s not the same. I find it more like writing on a banana with a biro.
@@C1990 Well... you threw in a curve ball (or banana) at the end there...
I can tell you that the handwritten notes look very mediocre. The fountain pen is no fountain pen, the pencil is ugly and tilt is very bad implemented. Colours you can only recognioze if you turn on backlight to max (then you have extreme battery drain). I sent it back.
Looks pretty good actually. Seems so versatile and been waiting gfor this kind of ereader. Plus, onyx been one of my fav eink reader brand. Love it!
After see your reviews, i bought a Tab Ultra C Pro.. Now i am returning it because it didnt have palm rejection, that it significantly compromises the device's usability and overall user experience for my needs. The primary purpose of my purchase was for seamless writing and effective utilization of a planner without the need for cumbersome navigation adjustments.
I sent it back too. Pure disapointment. Same reason as you describe here. Plus some more problems, nobody seems to mention.
@@roberthermann70 yeah, that because the best source is reddit before buy.... and try to see the problems of the users... this type of videos are to sell...there arent genuine.
@@roberthermann70 Hi just wondering if you could mention those problems? I am still considering buying one. Thank you!
@@roberthermann70what are the biggest problems u faced?
U can off the gesture click. I am using the same device and happy with it.
I saw this wonderful device today! Magnificent thing! Already ordered it for myself too!!!!!
Ended up buying this unit today, looks really good, hope it gets to me soon! Bought it from you guys too.
Nice having more capable e-ink products!
I actually found myself wanting this product. Last time i felt that way about a product i learned about here was the hisense touch hifi reader and music player and I bought one and enjoy using it. I may have to save some money and get one of these😮
Amazing review!
Color e-reader simply are the future!
They really are im looking forward to one thats Better than this one
The page turn animations looks cool.
Onyx still up there as always. Cheers!
Amazing looking product!
Great info. Thank you.
Could I use this to lecture? Specific use case would be to run PowerPoint on it and e-ink over the slides, while projecting to Zoom or Teams. Seems like it should *technically* be possible with MS office and Zoom for Android, but does it actually work in the real world?
Is the included case very similar to the Note Air 3C case? I.e. you can prop it to landscape or portrait configuration?
Thank you for the great video.
Onyx e-readers are very cool. If I had the budget for them I'd buy one
Seeing this with the keyboard, it makes me wonder why we don’t see e-paper laptops. Presumably a lot of writers would love something like that.
I know what you mean. I’m doing what I can now to preserve my eyes (which get worse every year) and I’m looking into this specifically because I’m a writer and I read lots of books.
@@JasmineTea127 I’m trying to become better at reading more each day. I’ve been reading a chapter of this one book sporadically on my kindle for months, if not years. I can’t seem to find the time or concentration.
I just subscribed to a paper newspaper for the first time to get away from screens a bit and force myself to read. But I still feel like I hit a limit after an hour or so where I start reading the same paragraph over and over again and I have to stop. I’m ok with UA-cam comments and social media, but anything long form my brain shuts down. Any tips?
It will cost too much, and some will complain that it is too expensive, stating that the $700 MacBook is much better. It will not work as Everyone is only complaining but got no money to afford it.
I think e-ink monitors are a thing; also, Onyx and others are working towards e-ink laptops I believe. Certainly seems like Kitt Betts-Masters uses the Tab Ultra C [Pro] as a laptop pretty much.
E-ink displays are very niche.
People need laptops for multi-media. E-ink is terrible for that. At the cost of a regular laptop and half the utility. they wouldn’t sell in the volume needed.
These devices exist for writers.
Pretty much, the peak of eink - just a noraml tablet, unique drawing app - and color eink screen. If they could take this device, and shrink it down to a mini size, uniform bezzels - like an ipad mini 6 - id buy a billion of them
This looks sick!
Glad I stumbled upon your channel, this is a great, comprehensive review, i may have missed it, but can this convert handwriting to text on the note taking app??
Please watch our other videos where we cover this extensively.
Unfortunately because we upload thousands of videos, we can't cover every single feature every single time as there are just far too many devices released in our industry to do so
love this!
Does it reduce eye strain, and when i turn off birghtness in complitaly dark room, is there still light that comes from the device?
I bought one; but the battery just last 11hrs with wifi on and 2 apps running. I asked for a return at day 15. The customer service tried many things to deny the request. I had to file a purchase dispute with my credit company. The battery is bad.
Good device! Participated in the contest.
Wondering if the Boox Max Lumi will get a color version. Or a 13.3 version of this Boox tab ultra C pro. If I’m buying it I might as well get what I want.
looks like an excellent product for academic readings
Great device for the home office!
Looks really interesting.
what difference in antutu scores between air 3 C and tab Ultra C Pro?
Onyx Tablets are just the best. I wish i could afford one.
can I use it for learning foreign language ? For example when reading book can I translate some words ?
Very good device. Still waiting for an Windows tablet with eink screen for total usability and improved battery life compared to LCD screen on my Surface Pro. Imagine the speed possible with a REAL processor!
Thinkbook Twist is a good candidate if it will get lower in price
@@ASJkenan0 Tablet PC with eink second screen is an option though not the same as true tablet
You can use chrome remote desktop, it kind of do the trick
@@letterbomb211 I think they mean that with a proper processor, the unit itself would probably be snappier in terms of refresh rates and usability because of the increased processing power. I imagine a world where the HD mode is as snappy as the Ultrafast mode that BOOX has currently.
@@cool2bwichu higher refresh rates would just mean even more battery drain offsetting the benefits of going eink
This is a very nice product. I like it.
Can boox devices read cbz files with webp images? I typically use a third party comic reader like tachiyomi or YACreader to read my comics and manga files, all of which are webp cbz archives.
I don't like eraders with many features, i like eraders just to read and write. That's why I'm waiting for the gallery 3 devices
I think it's a positive thing that the keyboard thingy is sold separately, because I couldn't care less about it. I personally think that an attached keyboard is a downside. All the more so when it's also the back of your case. Whoever came up with that clearly doesn't go out much... I bought a bluetooth one for under 20 and it's just 100 g or so, and I can use it in my lap or however I want.
Best review
Could you please cover if these can mirror to tvs or monitors? I want the air 3 c, but there is no info there either... With so many mobile devices out there being able to output to displays and even do multi screen, it would seem it's not unreasonable to wish for that feature... But I'm guessing it's a no? It would also be nice if one could use this as a secondary monitor for a pc.
You can do this with SuperDisplay on a PC. It works incredibly well on a conventional Android tablet with nearly no latency. Obviously, the experience on eink will be somewhat laggier, but it still works.
have you ever tried duet display? is it more lagging than SuperDisplay?@@LouisHochmanTheJourno
I noticed that the brightness is slightly lower on one side compared to the other. Is it just mine, or is it normal? I observed this at a brightness level of 40-50%.
Does this have palm rejection?
Essentially an e-ink laptop. Very intriguing...
very cool!
My favoriMy favorite segment, when you demo a full color PDF magazine on the unit you're reviewing, was once again missing. Please consider bringing the segment back - PDFs are my primary use case, and seeing how they display on an e-ink device is key to any purchase decision I make.
Really nice
amazing so many features. also dont all tasks :)
I love it
Hi Peter, what do you think, will Onyx go full on colors e-ink or are they gonna do B/W variants too?
Hey there, you'll have to message him directly, Peter does not do any of the UA-cam comments or social media work
Peter@goodereader.com
They're already doing a B&W version of the Note Air 3C and that'll be available later this year (soon). I asked the Onyx person on Reddit about a B&W version of the Tab and he/she said there's currently no plans. So, that seems to be nothing within a month or two, but in six months. Who knows?
Thanks 🙏@@BuckRogers2491
Correct me if I'm wrong... this still require you to click an icon to put it in landscape/portrait mode... there is no automatic mode where you turn the device and it will change the mode...
That's the main problem for me, I love to read manga, but double pages need landscape, and the device it's too small to stay in landscape all the time...
It should automatically rotate since it has a sensor for that
Nice!
The K3 screen for reading does not look “bad” - it looks the way it looks and you have a preference. And for me a keyboard case is an essential, not overkill at all. :)
it is objectively a grey-ish background so the contrast with the black is objectively lower than a white background and having an extra layer means you reflect less ambient light.
I think he needs to point this out. Most of us are here for eye comfortable reading. Knowing you need a front light most of the time it is important.
That is correct, it is necessary for us to show every aspect of the device including its shortcomings.
Nicola is correct, it is in arguably significantly more gray than a non-color screen
The blue light is almost necessary in order to balance things out.
Will have one... When the price lowers to an acceptable level. Who knows...
I think huawei matepad papermate new edition can be rival for this.. because have using new nano screen technology and mode for reading and library apps.. but more fast for the performance
Huawei is nowhere near Onyx when it comes to epaper quality
Can we actually annotate like annotating a real book? Like writing on it?
Los onyx son una cosa preciosa, cada vez los ereaders tienen menos lag
This is for the contest.
I wonder how it works with libby? Is it smooth enough to read thoese digital picture books for kids?
Well this is an Android Google Play enabled tablet with multiple speed modes running at approximately 20 frames a second max, so it'll run pretty smooth, yeah.
Is this using the 855 CPU or is it the same as the 662 in the Air 3C? This is a crucial upgrade that needs to be discussed rather than hidden. After all, this is a $700 device.
855
Is this the same as tab 10 C pro?
Nice E-ink tablet best of the year ❤
What version of Android is it running?? They said that they were going to update the firmware every year
android 12
I bought one; but the battery just last 11hrs with wifi on and 2 apps running. I asked for a return at day 15. The customer service tried many things to deny the request. I had to file a purchase dispute with my credit company. The battery is bad; it does not support normal operation.
Is this where we comment 😮
Please compare it to Samsung Tab S9 Ultra. Thanks.
interesting device
Battery life compared to ultra c ?
Since it's not just a reader but a tablet with a stylus, I wonder if this could be paired with an online whiteboard for online teaching purposes? That's what seems most exciting to me about it.
Just get a graphics tablet
Battery capacity, mAh, is measured in milliamp-hours. Amps are a measure of current, not capacity.
Waiting for 13.3 color one. 😂 2024!
Yeah so are we.
DID Comment on that video
Who is running this channel should at least endeavour to reply to questions in the coments section. Crazy that there are valid questions from 5 months ago that wasnt answered.
There are too many comments to reply to each and every person
Thank you
💯‼️
Onyx is the best reader
Very nice, just a bit too pricey for me.
show us how pdf look on this tablet.
I have this. it’s like writing on a banana with a biro. Very smooth. Better than paper 🍌
I'm going to get it, but it will take 3-4 months. Adulting unfortunately means I'll have to save up for it.
Same here, except I'm saving for the Note Air 3C. Sigh...
I'would want to afford money this product.
I wish they made this same model without the Kaleido screen. Having a backlight is useful at night, but I feel like needing to have it on all the time defeats the purpose of e-ink, and it looks VERY dark when it’s turned off.
Well they kind of do, the tab ultra
It doesn't have a backlight. It has front lighting as most e-ink devices do. The light is directed towards the screen, not your face.
I wanna win this good:)
air 3 c OR Tab Ultra C Pro ? please let us know thanks
If you need twice the CPU power and eight times the GPU power and 2 GB more RAM, go for the pro. If you only take notes, go for the 3c.
THANK YOU! @@ThePianist51

Only 1 problem: The price is so expensive! 😅
Where is this brand from? Japan, China, Germany?
Onyx is a Chinese brand.
hmmm
Here for the contest :)
The glow light being pretty much mandatory even in a well lit environment kinda defeats the purpose of having an e-ink screen.
That's really bad.
Why would you want more like shangri la frontier? It's the best vrmmo anime out there...
Hey there, we have absolutely no idea what any of this means
@@goodereader Oh, in the vid you were looking at a manga selection, and the search suggestion was more like "shangri la frontier". if there's a weeb in the office, just ask them to confirm.
Ohhh, I see, we didn't pick up on that
My TabUltra C Pro is in shipping. Can't wait to receive it soon. It will replace the TabUltra. I don't ordered the keyboard case because mine with the TabUltra is already a garbage. The synthetic false never have to exist leather cover is broken at every corner and on the magnetic attach. A very bad fabric, unresist to the daily life and I take care of my device. I have ones more than 10 years and again nice as new. Onyx must change the never existed leather fabric to a true leather one or a good plastic one. At 150 USD is an overpriced unqualified accessory.
Do i need an account for using this device?
no
What about writting samples. The main main reason for E- ink is writting. All surrounds it. All others I get from Ipad. Ioad is must .
The question is can I use Boox for writting instead of rewirtable 2.
Boox can never be Ipad. It took apple many many years to becone what they are so this competition is doomed. Not even starting .
Again is it precuse in writting and and do all the functions that supports writting ( shapes , straight lines , photos upload to a sheath , synch , mailing , sharing to a printer !!! ,micro SD card ..) work smoothly and with many options.
This shoukd be a writting and a reading tool and sharing tool.
It can't be a computer . For that we have Ipad ans Sumsung TAB and Lenovo Yoga.
Writting is a lot and if it is very very very good writting experience with having the ability to type than might buy one of this company devices. Might be Air 3 c.. since the camera on the c ultra as viewed totally sucks.
If tge writying ecperience is smooth and natural and a bit rounded as a natural hand writting then this might be very usable for studing and work instead of paper assuming the quality is transfered by printing onto paper.
😂😂😢😮😮😅😅😊😊😢😂😮😮😮
For all writting apps in apple Ipad once you print a note to a paper the quality is so bad so what's the point of having nice writtings on a tan or an Ipad or a notebook yet on a print paper very bad results . So printing experience is also very important ; The ability to directly share a print from a note book and get excelent results on a print paper like you actuslly wrote itbon the print paper with no quality lose.
i wait big 13 inches color ereader!!!
It looks great but $800 is hard to swallow.
hope to win the giveaway
Looks very professional but a little over 2 pounds does seem quite heavy for any tablet. Very expensive too.
Really expensive!
Other then e-paper screen what are the benefits of having this. I mean don't get me wrong it's a cool device and all. But they do go to $500 or even more. Why not just get a nice Samsung tablet with pen, better screen, heck, better everything.
There is no other benefit. That's the entire thing of the multi-billion dollar industry, and our company as a whole; epaper
If the epaper screen is of no interest to you, there is literally no reason to buy a device like this as you could spend 1/5 of the cost and buy something better
the other benefit is the writing experience. I imagine that most people that buy these already have an ipad or Samsung tablet, but want a better feel when writing on it (in comparison to writing on an ipad), it’s easier on the eyes, and perhaps better battery life depending on which device a person acquires.
@@goodereader gotcha 👍
E ink won't burn your eyes as fast as a normal screen, e ink is just more easy on eyes and we appreciate that
Can I have some free stuff please ?
