Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows were my absolute favorite reads in January (and could very well be in the top for the entire year)! ❤
when you were talking about betting on you and said when you’re reading a book and they’re being romantic and you’re just like “no”, that was so funny but also so relatable 😂😂😂
YESSSS I LOVE WRAP UP SEASON!!!
I read Powerless this month and absolutely loved it! It only took me a week to read it because once I was in, I was in whole heartedly. It reminded me of the Hunger Games in a lot of ways but there was many differences. I also loved the fantasy elements of like people with super powers and people without them. It felt like it could have been a dystopian/futuristic world, instead of a fantasy make believe world. But it also felt very historical I guess as well with the royal family and that type of thing. But the romance in this book was so beyond anything I've ever read before, even though it was rather simple, there was just something about it that had me hooked. I read this after finishing the last daisy Haites book in Jessa Hasting's series and I thought the romance in powerless would disappoint me because of that. But I was pleasantly surprised, Powerless isn't as poetic of have beautiful descriptions like Jessa Hasting's writes but it was still beautiful nonetheless. I just loved the adventure, the discourse, the conflict, the power imbalances, the corruption, just everything. I have never read fantasy before just dystopian kind of books and this book really took me back to that. It felt nostalgic in a way, it was perfect. It says the new book is coming out May 2024... but when I googled it looks like it won't be available until July here in Australia :( such a long wait and I want it now because I NEED to know what happens!
I feel bad because I had so many five star books in January. Reread the Percy Jackson series and that was obvs five stars. I listened to finding me by Viola Davis that was amazing. A man called Ove made me cry and was so heartwarming, and The Bee Sting by Paul Murray had my brain reeling. Wishing you a better reading month this time Rach! ❤

I read the infernal devices trilogy in january and LOVED it sm!!! I can not stop thinking about the characters 🤧 i'm currently reading the last 3 books of the mortal instruments. Honestly can't get enough of the shadowhunters world 🥰
I didn't read this in January, but one of my favorites from 2023 was The Universal Christ by Fr. Richard Rohr. It's nonfiction about the concept of Christ/anointed and what it means about God and the world. The author is a Catholic Priest from the contemplative/mystic tradition, so it was a different perspective than I usually come across. I definitely recommend when you're in the mood for it!

I read Neal Shusterman's Arc of the Scythe series in January and really enjoyed it! I was pretty neutral on the first book, but it set-up the following two books so well and I liked them a lot more so I'm glad I kept reading.
Just read A Broken Promise and highly recommend. Debut novel so some grammatical errors on kindle but the slow burn, world building, side characters… ugh so good. Hooked me instantly.

My favorite January read has to be Love the Way You Lie by Gracie Graham! It's the 1st in the Boys of Riverside series (NOT standalones). An intense YA football romance with a love triangle that feels emotional, where both guys represent something different for her. And there's a mystery about a car accident throughout, touching on grief.
My favorite book from this month was definitely Becoming Mrs., Lewis, it was a new 5 star! Hang in there with the book slump, I am going through one as well ;-;
My favourite of January was Sky and Breath, I read it for the first time and lost it at that ending! 🤯
I'm late to the game but I read The Housewife and loved it!!! I thought the second half was so twisty and i didn't see it coming :)
one dark window is one of my favorite reads in 2024 so far!
my 5 star reads this month included 'the things we leave unfinished' by rebecca yarros (AMAZING!!), percy jackson (obvs) and bloodmarked (the second book in the legendborn series) highly recommend all of these. love the video once again rachel :))
I loved betting on you! I'm so sorry you didn't have the same experience. I think it came to me at the perfect time and as an almost teenager (I'm 20) I felt like it was pretty realistic for how teenagers actually are lol. Also found it much better than Lynn's other two books, probably because I didn't have any expectations with it. I hope February is a better reading month for you!

As someone who’s first fantasy was red queen, I was changed as a person. Hahaha but I can totally see how it doesn’t do the job for avid fantasy readers.

My favorite in January was The Seven Year Slip. I'm reading The Measure by Nikki Erilick right now and I'm only 50 pages in but it's super good so far!
please read the Monsters of Verity duet by V. E. Schwab! they were my favourite books of last year and I feel like you would really like them, it's a ya dystopian with Schwab's beautiful writing and the characters are amazing (if you like Kaz and Inej from Six of Crows you'll love Kate and August). I need more people to read these books haha

ah so sad to hear you thoughts like that on red queen (they are 10000% valid of course I don't mean it like that). It is predictable because the big new books like Fourth Wing and Powerless are based on this. This is basically one of the blue prints. I get that if you read this now you might feel like this though!

As someone who has read the entire red queen series it’s truly NOT worth it, the last two books are unnecessarily too long with way wayyy too many povs and the ending is so unsatisfying, I wish I’d never read them they’re the only books I’ve ever truly strongly disliked haha
I have also decided Lisa Jewell is not for me. She just gets way too dark, twisted, and yucky.
