Spinal Injuries Association visit to Westminster

In May 2024, we visited parliament to engage decision makers in the reality of the challenges faced by people with spinal cord injury.
The current standard of bowel care in medical settings for those with SCI is simply unacceptable. Unfortunately this extends to many people with other long-term health conditions as well.
There are an estimated 105,000 people living with SCI in the UK. In our recent What Matters survey, we found that:
📌 54% of those who had been hospitalised received substandard bowel care
📌 40% took 3+ months to get back their bowel back to normal
📌 34% never returned to normal
