  • In the latest episode of Shed Tech, Cyclist Tech Editor Sam Challis looks at Shimano's latest update to its fantastic S-Phyre shoe.
On the surface the Shimano's revisions to the S-Phyre shoe look subtle, but changes to the upper material have resulted in a markedly different fit.
Before you go stocking up on the much-loved RC901 versions though, Sam explains why all is not lost. Happily that classic Shimano fit, with some neat improvements, is still possible to achieve in the latest and greatest S-Phyre thanks to Shimano's generous size range.
Shed Tech episode #5-ish covers all the new shoe's highlights, but if you fancy a deeper dive into the updates be sure to check out Sam's original launch story on our website here: www.cyclist.co.uk/8652/shiman...

Sorry for the tardy response, really glad to hear you like the Shed Tech series. Thanks for subscribing. I've got no plans to stop anytime soon, and will be getting another episode live within the next couple of weeks. I agree with you about replaceable fittings - these S-Phyres have a replaceable heel bumper and the toe protection, although not replaceable, seems really durable. - Sam

@@Cyclistmagvideo hi, glad to hear it, good to get a response no matter how long it takes. its living in the city and stopping frequently that really wears things out - my right shoe underside is always much more worn than left. still want good shoes for when the city is left behind though

I find the fit runs a little smaller than other brands - 46 sidi but SHIMANO is tight- even in wide fit & oddly there’s hill slip - even with that ‘Velcro’ material in it.

Buy the wide version... the problem is the lack of narrow shoes out there.

how much wider than the reg version are the wide version? I've been running a 43 for years and the fit is always perfect. even the new sphyre mtb shoes I have a 43 and they are great. I've tried these on in a store and the 43 feel narrow to the point of being uncomfortable. if I just go wide is that going to solve my issue?
