Only a truly gifted teacher is able to take so many deep and complex Tillichian concepts and present them so succinctly in a fun and engaging ten minute overview but to be able to do this consistently again and again without fail with all the hefty philosophical concepts you've covered in all the videos I've watched so far is truly an amazing feat worthy of some kind of didactic gold medal or something. I look forward to watching and enjoying all of them. This particular video came out of the blue for me and served as an introduction to your work but it also came and ministered to me at a very spiritually pivotal moment in my life and for that I want to thank you with my most sincere and personal gratitude. May God continue to bless you in these and all your other endeavors.

I studied Tillich for a full semester nearly 50 years ago. I barely understood him then. Now that I'm old(er), I figure it's time to learn what I should have learned long time ago! I wish we had UA-cam way back then!

WOW! This was an excellent presentation and basic introduction to Paul Tillich and his philosophical theology framework. (7/24/23)

Thank you for your videos on P.T. When I was in college I read The Courage to Be (It was not assigned.) Its clarity and power knocked me over. A truly great thinker. I later was heavily influencd by Alfred North Whitehead. . He reconciled me to God by explaining evil. Grateful for both these great men.

Hey! I just came across this awesome channel, I really appreciate this content, specifically the videos dealing with Tillich’s work.
Concerning him, I have a question and I don’t know how to answer it, maybe you can help me with it: Once one understands the framework and mentality of Paul Tillich, is is fair to say that he denied a physical/historical resurrection of Jesus Christ (the historical person)?

I don't think Tillich denied a historical resurrection of Jesus. If by physical resurrection you mean the reanimation of a medically dead material body, the earliest Christians didn't even believe in that. For them, Christ's physical body was dead & spiritual body was raised. We don't think in the same philosophical categories as they did back then & that's Tillich's point.

The french word for "spirit" is "esprit" ;)

Well we do not make ourselves but it’s actually humans that… “make” humans.

The little I have known about Tillich's thought makes a lot of sense to me. I am not Lutheran (I used to be), but I guess I should take a closer look into his theology.

And let's just add that this video was enough to make me the 500th subscriber to this channel.

I recently discovered your channel and it is exactly what I have been looking for. I’m now subscribed and liking every episode as I watch (sometimes several times to take notes!). You’re an excellent teacher. These are not simple concepts and you’re able to explain it well in under 20 min. Thank you so much for doing this work. Side note - this video is missing in the Paul Tillich playlist. It would help if you put this video and other Tillich-related videos in that playlist (Dynamics of Faith, Encounter of World Religions, Tillich vs Panikkar). Thank you.
