Thank you for giving a clear career plan for the thousands of us that have done our degrees and felt lost afterwards. Not many institutions give you career planning advice like you do. They sell you this dream that once you get your degree you on the way to the big four accountancy firms and this maybe be true for 10% of people but not all of us are so lucky. Brilliant work, thank you 😃
Im majoring in accounting but i wasn’t too sure on what job I wanted to have after I graduated. After watching this video now I know my path! I’m going to work to become a controller 😁
Thank you for these videos. I've been a senior accountant for almost four years and always wondered how to progress to controller. I fit all the checkmarks except for the public accounting experience.
I just watched your channel about 1 week ago. This channel has given me a lot of insight. I just started my career as an auditor 1 year ago until now and to be honest, I almost gave up. But thanks to you I have changed my mind. I just realized that there are many interesting knowledge that I haven't know yet until now about audit and accounting. Great content!! Looking forward for your next video Mr. Financial Controller !
Thank goodness for you! I’m starting my career in Accounting and you’ve been a golden ticket for my learning experience! You explain your topics very well in a way that I can understand and retain. Thank you for your channel. You are helping us!
Hi Bill, this is a great 👍 encouragement and super. Could you please expound more on the role of a corporate controller on internal controls, Financial modelling and business forecasting??
Great video. You have really broke it down to the core. Love the content. recommendation for UA-cam video. Maybe add some low sound copyright free background music.
Finally I got a video on this ..thanks a lot sir ...please make a video .how to become Indian kid coprated controller ...plz sir...I hav search a lot but I did not get any video on this ....now u r last option ...plzz sir make video ...for Indian kid
Thank you for the advice. What job position would you suggest I take if I'm trying to head in the controller direction, an accounts payable role or a full charge bookkeeper role? I'm not straight out of college so time is a bit shorter for me. 😁
I love your videos I wish there was something similar for CFO in terms of videos. I want to eventually get to that role currently a sr. Financial Analyst
The video would be the same of this one. CFO is just a promoted controller. The controller reports directly to the CFO and usually eventually replaces him or you apply for a CFO / VP of Finance job after you have a few years of experience as a controller.
Hi Bill, thanks for your videos, really helpful for appreciating the scope of the job. Could you please make a video about how to manage an accounting team? I’ve got all the knowledge/experience/certification for becoming a Financial Controller. What’s holding me back is the lack or more likely a fear of managing a team of people. What would be the best role for a person who doesn’t want to manage others? I like responsibilities of a Financial Controller and can do that comfortably and love putting together Financial and Performance reports but not sure I’d like to manage people. What would be your advice? Thanks!
I want to transition my career and be a CMA. Currently I review commercial real estate documents including the income, cash flow, balance sheet documents and projection in appraisal reports for the purposes of quality control. I don't make financial decisions. I only summarize information or work with the appraisers in revising or clarifying information for underwriting purposes. I make a salary slightly above the population average. With the proper education, can I transition to this track without a severe cut in income? My education is in economics.
Thank you for the video. Would you say that as a corporate controller, you have a lot flexibility to switch to new or different industries even if most of your work experience was in one particular industry - say for example, real estate or tech or entertainment/media?
Somewhat. It’s easy to go from software to services or manufacturing. I find it hard to do legal firms or any business that’s a partnership, because i am so used to corporation
@@TheFinancialController I see so it's easy to switch industries between corporations but more difficult if switching to industries dominated by legal firms or partnerships
Thanks a lot bro finally got a vedio on this topic only vedio I got on corporate controller 😅😊please make vedio on how to be corporate controller for indian kids who are just in high school!! Can u tell us in easier way
I have experience in everything that you mentioned for 15 years. They just never gave me an accounting title. I never realized I was handling this role. Will titles affect my job pursuit?
I'm definitely upset that I have chosen this career path AFTER already obtaining a BS in Environmental Science. But I will persist, find a way forward, and have a great career nonetheless!
Hey I am currently in school for B.S in Accounting. I noticed my school has this program and another program which is B.S in Accounting with emphasis on public accounting. Is my current program sufficient enough to lead down the road of sitting for my CPA??
How do you feel about the CMA certification? I'm in the process of getting a BS in Accounting, and the school I'm going to has a program that is very much setting you up to pass the CMA exams.
I am almost finished with my business accounting degree. Where do you suggest starting out (job wise) to get experience to later apply for a controller role?
I wouldn't mind seeing a video focusing on financial reporting. That's a skill set that I want to develop, but I don't know-how. I have an associate in accounting. I worked in AR, but didn't deal with a high-level of finical reporting. I'm not sure how to get in a position where I can learn more about financial reporting. Until I get one, I wouldn't mind a video on it. I also wouldn't mind hearing your personal experience as being a financial analyst and an account manager. Was there anything that you wished you had known before taking on any of those roles? Were the steps you took to become a controller intentional, or did you simply want to advance your career over time?
Hello! I have 6 years as an AR and Credit/collections manager...what do you think should be my next move to become a controller ultimately? Should I become an AP manager now? Thank you!!!!
Thanks for your sharing. In case, I’m not really good at number, math, I can’t quickly calculate numbers in my head, link the numbers between reports, should I follow this career? If I’m ready on this road, can you please share some tips to improve and move up? Thanks
I’ve seen a lot of sites say that an MBA is required for a lot of corporate controller and financial manager positions. I was thinking a double major in finance and business administration would be ideal, but now I’m conflicted. Do you think it would be realistic to take both of these classes and accounting in college if I want to start working as early as possible?
@@TheFinancialController thank you so much for telling me; I’ll make sure to remember that. Does this still apply to the positions higher up the ladder?
Hi I am an accountant for 12 years and i am still same in my role without any change. I am suffering and i need to change my role to finance. Is there opportunity to do that? And the first step to do that. Thanks for you.
Hi. When you make the move to finance you will be taking a risk of losing the job if you don’t perform good. So I would say make the move when you have extra money saved. Also sometimes you take a reduction in salary initially when you switch, but long term more money. Watch more videos on UA-cam about NPV, ROI, how to budget, etc
Hey, I have done my graduation in finance and taxation, and I'm a semi qualified company secretary from India. Would I be applicable to this job.... Or I have to do another certification ?....... Please reply.........
The cash flow statement bridges net income to cash on the balance sheet. Depreciation decreases your net income, but it doesn’t effect cash (its like a “paper” expense) so you add it back on the CFS
200k is really high. Small to medium companies in US typically pay 90-130. Big companies are in the 140-165 range. Maybe you could get 200k if you worked for a huge multinational company.
Do you think getting a CFA certificate might help as well? I already passed CFA level 1 but I am not sure if I should continue studying for it or just start studying for the CPA exam instead.
Never stop uploading, please. This channel is gold.
Ok thanks for watching

CMAs can earn more than CPAs and have better career satisfaction. But I find that CPA jobs are more plentiful. So the choice for me was CPA

I prefer you take an "Accounting Manager" role that oversees both AR/AP plus some financial reporting. In doing so, you will get good exposure to AP.

hey man nice vid... i hv a question... can investment bankers become corporate controller??
They tend to become CFOs more than controllers

Why is a CPA required and not a CMA? I thought Controllers are managerial accountants?
Man this is pure diamond channel than pew die pie
Thanks Krish!
Can I do it with a Bachelor’s in Finance? I’m also thinking of doing a supplemental major in math and statistics.
Bachelor of finance works too

I was thinking a double major in finance and business administration would be ideal, but now I’m conflicted. For controller role, only an accounting degree and a CPA are required. MBA is not a big deal for controller roles

Both are good, follow your heart
Great video, but 200k USD? Damn I need to move to the US, controllers are getting on average 120k CAD here.
