The loaded outtake of this track has helped me through many hard and lonely places in my life, throughout my 20’s. As a New Yorker, It was there for me on long train rides home and lonely summer nights out on my fire escape. There’s something about this track that I can’t quite put to words, that connects with me on a deep personal level.
modern bands just CANT better this and other velvet underground stuff! why are most modern bands so obsessed with perfect production and clothes? these guys just play it from their heart and favourite drugs! honest music, even when they lie!
Please play this at my funeral. Lou made the saddest music about real people. No wonder that even the people who just wanted to be Lou Reed, Jonathon Richman and Dean Wareham, are great in their own right. Oh Lou, what happened to you?
So sad about us hearing this... Be a night of rememberence to one of the greatest greats of innovation, creativity and making exiting music so against the grain. The world of rock'n'roll would be less value if the Velevts had never existed
My favorite version. None of in the city stuff like on Lou solo. It’s cool, but I like this better. All is missing is the distortion lead of the instrumental version on other bootlegs/ expanded loaded cd
This version is also available on the out of print australian box set "what goes on" that came out in 93. The only place where this versipn can be found besides the Inrockuptibles promo :)
It wasn't: it was a legit, licensed but cheeky and under the radar (Australia only) comp with lots of oddities. There's some cross-over, but it's not those comps.
With the VU having such a big cult following, and especially in the light of their reunion at the time, copies of that box were imported elsewhere. Amazingly, my local library in France used to have it and a couple of magazines reviewed it as it could be purchased as a limited import.
@shropshirelass66 I got it from a 1990 promo given away with a number of Les Inrockuptibles (the french music magazine), and I guess that's the only place I ever found it. I don't hav the "peel slowly and see" box here with me to check it out, but I'm pretty sure the version that comes in there is the one sung by Doug Yule...
the luna version is the first time i heard the VU instrumental (to my mind the definitive, best recorded version) with lou's lyrics and i loved it... till i heard lou singing it. His recorded version is dogshit, but him singing the original version is fucking abrosia. the replacements have similar dichotomy with can't hardly wait
This is definitely rare, but there is another version with Lou Reed singing lead, on the box set titled _What Goes On_. Lou sang lead and there were lots of good harmonies on the refrain. You could tell Doug Yule was in the band instead of John Cale.
"It always bothers me to see people writing 'RIP' when a person dies. It just feels so insincere and like a cop-out. To me, RIP is the microwave dinner of posthumous honors" - Lou Reed.
Randall Flagg Listen to the slow version of Sweet Jane on the "1969 Live with Lou Reed" album, then you'll hear the similarities. I do wish this version of Ride into the Sun was on Loaded, though.

@@deweypug or Yo La Tengo, or The Subsonics
I cried like a baby when he passed. There will never be another lou reed
The velvet is caressing, the the underground is rough, both sides match perfectly. My band.
Please play this at my funeral. Lou made the saddest music about real people.
No wonder that even the people who just wanted to be Lou Reed, Jonathon Richman and Dean Wareham, are great in their own right.
Oh Lou, what happened to you?
cant believe i'm only hearing this version now too - brings tears to my eyes. the imperfections make it perfect
Sick. Thank god for internet.
BeyondEcstasy An 200ug of acid
Could never find this on napster or lazaalol

The good ol’ velvet underground.
So sad about us hearing this... Be a night of rememberence to one of the greatest greats of innovation, creativity and making exiting music so against the grain. The world of rock'n'roll would be less value if the Velevts had never existed

Ohhh lovely
Intense and gruff beauty
When a guitar is out of tune and still sounds great
I see what you mean only about a quarter tone though most people would not notice.
Tuned down
Then used to tunes their guitars a couple different ways
This is also included in the "Searchin' For My Mainline" bootleg set if it you guys ever see it for download.
Thank you
More rare LOU /VU stuff - I got to love it -----
the lead guitar is so good on here they need to boost that shit
How is your taste in music so good?
FOREVER LOU
Best version of the song
In my Lou Reed playlist with the "Another View" version and Lou's solo version. Thanks for the upload!
I found lou's version to be disappointing compared to this
This version is also available on the out of print australian box set "what goes on" that came out in 93. The only place where this versipn can be found besides the Inrockuptibles promo :)
dummytree that box set was a comp of 3 Australian bootlegs (etc, and so on ,(I forget the 3rd)) which were fairly readily available in the mid80s

I can't pick a favorite version...

RIP Lou Reed

Amazing! Where did you find this?
The Luna version is really good too!

Ride Into The Sun
The Velvet Underground
Looking for another place
Someone else to be
Looking for another chance
To ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Ride into the sun
Where everything seems so pretty
When you're lonely and tired of the city
Remember, it's a flower made out of clay
To the city
Where everything seems so ugly
When you're sitting at home in self pity
Remember, you're just one more person
Who's living there
It's hard to live in the city
It's hard to live in the city
It's hard to live in the city
It's hard to live in the city

Give me a few years..

Strange that only instrumental versions are released.
With the one on 'What Goes On' being an exception.
Ratelzwatel there's a terrific 8 minute non instrumental version on the Quine tapes.
Where is this song available? Is it on velvet undergoing cd?
anyone have tabs for this
jesus
What version is this one?
Was that version released officially in some boxset?
I don’t think so, only on bootlegs

RIP LOU

p.s: does anyone know the lyrics to this version?
"It always bothers me to see people writing 'RIP' when a person dies. It just feels so insincere and like a cop-out. To me, RIP is the microwave dinner of posthumous honors" - Lou Reed.
Which ones Lou Reed, love this song
Him on the bottom left?

Daniel Rio Ortiz i’m listening to this as you’re in bootcamp LOL !

I'm sure this song was left off because it sounds a lot like sweet jane.
3:49 - I'm still waiting... when it seems to you Similar to Sweet Jane ?
Listen to how similar the chord progression and lous melody are...
AshtrayAnnie
I hear it. And then it also kinda sounds like Who Loves the Sun.
Randall Flagg Listen to the slow version of Sweet Jane on the "1969 Live with Lou Reed" album, then you'll hear the similarities. I do wish this version of Ride into the Sun was on Loaded, though.
i dunno man lou was madly in love with D A G Bm chords
It's barely rare if you've put it on UA-cam
Twas rare to me. Shit that's gotta count for something.
My favorite version
