Hasselblad XPAN FujiFilm TX-1 - Наука та технологія
Wish companies experimented with cameras like they did in the early 90's, keen to try out the GFX!
Let me know when your free for coffee and I will bring the GFX50R 😱
Amazing photos, simply amazing! Loved the cows on Velvia :) Never found a use for this simulation, but here - amazing!
Thanks for watching 😁
Fantastic photos! The X-Pan aspec ratio is truly legendary. I wish I could try that setup myself one day, with all the film simulation recipes that are popping up in the Fuji community, that setup must be so fun to shoot with!
Something special about the Fujifilm Film simulations … Now if they can put the new 40mp sensor from the XH2 in a X100 body and add the XPAN mode 🤑
I shoot with a 50R and an X-Pro2. I've tended to work with the 50R as my "set piece" camera for specific, planned in advance shots, and kept the X-pro for travel and more casual walk-around. But the possibility of using the 50R as a digital X-pan has caused me to use it more and more as a walk-around camera. Pairing it with the GF 35-70 makes a fairly lightweight package which will hang happily off a sling strap, and gives (I think) the X-pan equivalent of 50 - 100, so not far off the "traditional" 45 and 90mm X-pan primes, in terms of FOV..
Great video and I couldn’t agree more…though the 50R definitely feels more of a brick in the hand than the XPan. The XPan viewfinder experience is hard to beat, but the files out of the GFX are just great.
Btw, your XPan unboxing video was amazing…unique! Bitter-sweet for me as I sold my pristine XPan II years ago with all 3 lenses and that leather bag, and have never seen one in the same condition since, for any price! I had the ‘ever-ready case’ which was lovely soft leather and the key for keeping the camera in perfect condition for me. I have recently picked up an H1 in great condition from the same era - surprisingly good value, and goes some way towards compensating!
Hi Daryl excellent video, great to see you in NZ as well! 😊 I have a question. I just purchased a Nikon ZF however always loved this camera as well due to the Xpan ratio. I am torn between using pixel shift on the ZF and then cropping in post to that ratio or investing in a 50r for that. I am mostly looking at fine art, landscaping and architecture for my subject matter. What is your advice and does any of the other GFX have that picture ratio? Thx
I shoot my GFX50R in 24x65 with an adapted 45mm lens from the Mamiya 7. This is a great light weight combination with fantastic image quality.
Nice video and photos. The idea of a digital XPAN is getting a lot of traction recently. You could also use the new X-T2 (7728 px wide, cf GFX 50R's 8256 px wide) *if only* Fuji would provide a 65:24 (or similar) crop in a future firmware update! Please Fuji!!
i don't understand why leica is not adding panoramic mode to the Q lineup ... especially with the 60MPX Q3
The Hassleblad and Fuji panoramic cameras produce 24x65mm images on 35mm film.
The Fuji 6x7cm medium format rangefinder cameras produce 24x68mm images on 35mm film.
The Fuji 6x9cm medium format rangefinder cameras produce 24x90mm images on 35mm film.
I love my 50R but it can get quite heavy with some lenses. I’ve added a grip to reduce hand strain. Also it is easy to use vintage lenses with it. Mamiya 645 Sekor C lenses work really well on GFX cameras.
Not had much luck with Leica M lenses, will have to see if I can find some Mamiya 645 lens, any you recommend?
@@DarrylCarey I use the M645 80mm and 45mm with my 50R. Both are nice and sharp. The bulk and weight does add up when you take the adapter into account though. I have an original Mamiya 645, so it does mean that I get good use out of those lenses. Also have the 210mm but it's not great, and has a lousy min focus distance.
I'm pondering, because you mentioned the Panasonic S1R at the beginning, which would seem to me like maybe a better choice for this exercise. It also has the XPan crop mode, and it would be more cost-effective. Then let's say, you could pair it with a Sigma 24mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary lens, a match to the XPan's 45mm kit lens.
Hi ! Have you tried to use M-mount adapter with Leica 35mm on GFX ?
Beautiful images as always Darryl. Anymore Fujifilm reviews coming?
Thanks Richard, would like to test the Fujifilm X100V. Maybe I should start review Fujifilm cameras 😉
the GFX is fantastic for portraits - for beat results, pair the camera with the gf110 f/2 - amazing lens!
Cool!
Is Fuji still good with updating their camera firmware with new features?
I remember hearing about how a couple of years ago when Fuji supporter older cameras with new features!
How is your spring going? We are in autumn/fall times here in Sweden so you get to experience the green and warm times soon being on the other side of the world!
Take care and keep up the good work!
Fujifilm have always been good at bringing out new firmware updates even for the older cameras. Getting warmer here in NZ, so will be nice to get out and shoot more. Miss the autumn colours of Europe 😉
Panasonic full frame cameras have an option to shoot at the same ratio as the x-pan
i hope someday fuji will made 30 mil pancake lens with a leica style lenshood... and then i would say thats a digital xpan
can you try the Xpan lenses on the GFX and do a review? I have an xpan and I'ld be so much confortable knowing I'll have a solution for the lenses if the camera dies one day
Cheers Darryl, My wife wants to know why I'm drooling all over my keyboard!
🤣
DAMN IT!!! I did not “need” another camera! 🤣🤣🤣
Still have my Fuji 6x9 film camera (8 shots per roll)
Never shot with a Fuji 6x9 … Really should start shooting more medium format
looking forward to the new Hasselblad X2d 100c and maybe do some 2 or 3 shot panoramas...as well as regular photography......
Great! Have you tried the M-Mount adapter on the GFX? Some Leica glass covers pretty much the whole sensor and it could be worth a try.
Hey Robin, yes I have and its terrible🤣. With the 28mm f/2 Summicron its like a black circle around the frame. So gave up on using a Leica M lens on the GFX50R. Enjoyed the live stream the other day😉
@@DarrylCarey🙏😀 I depends on the lens. I hope that you removed the hood. 😝
I have tried Leica glass on the GFX. It works great as long as you use lenses greater than 50mm. Great video.
@@davidcorbin9786 Thanks David 😁
@@therealsirrobin Yes I removed the Hood 🤣
Not sure why more camera's don't support this crop mode, seems so simpler for them to do. The latest firmware for the S1R does support 24x65, but not in some modes (iA, burst, 6K, Time Lapse, Stop Motion, HLG, HR, Multiple Exposure, filter settings). It also does not crop the actual raw file, but there is meta info in it that says it was taken 24x65, but not sure if any of the editing software uses that info. I have not used it myself except to test it just now.
I did not know the new firmware for the S1R supported 24x65, with the 47mp size you would be getting some nice detail in the crop. I hope Panasonic bring out a S1R MKII, still one of my fav cameras for photography.
Lightroom will apply the crop when opening up the raw files but of course you could change it afterwards.
Why would you want the camera to crop the RAW file? Having it record full sensor gives you much more options for post.
Should be really interesting for scenes amenable to the high res composite mode. With the XPan aspect ratio, you're basically throwing away half of that 200MP source image. However, 100MP is plenty for some really satisfyingly large prints.
You can use now the GF23mmF4 R LM WR
The GFX50R looks like a beast next to Q2M. Did I hear you right that you have an MP?
Hey Mark, hope you're keeping well. Yes I have a black paint MP, still not had a chance to shoot with it yet 😪
OnePlus 10 pro xpan so beautiful.
Oh my, I did not know that the GFX50r features an xpan crop. Why don't the other Fuji cams feature this as well?
I don't know why, they are the original creators of it technically.
Thought I'd seen the last of Auckland
The Panasonic S1R has a 65:24 ratio option, just saying. I don't like the old viewfinder in the 50R. 3.6 MP looks and feels like something of the old world today. When switching to a 5.x MP viewfinder camera it was the first time that it actually felt quite good.
Hi Tom, yes you are right about the EVF on the GFX50R, it's not the best but its better than the one I have been using on my M10-P which is like something from 15yrs ago. Panasonic S1 and S1R have the best EVF's I have every used, I think the Leica SL2 and SL2-s are using the same EVF's. I hope Panasonic keep going with the Pro Full Frame mirrorless camera range.
I'm afraid I don't get it. The crop mode is just that - it's showing you a crop in the jpg image only. But you can crop any digital image at any time you want and in reality there's nothing similar between the two cameras at all. Sure you have more sensor real estate in the Fuji but that's it.
The simple fact is that you see the crop when composing, taking and reviewing the shot.
Have you no imagination ? And perhaps a slightly different ratio is what is needed anyway. It's a solution looking for a problem.@@andrewsimpson5436
Not the sharpest tool in the box is Darryl... Do your research bro.
