No one wins in Mark’s situation. No protecting, no vengeance none of that saves ANY part of this. All you have is a LOT of hurt people in an unimaginable amount of pain. And if there IS an afterlife Aangstrom won’t be ok in ANY reality.
There’s a massive divide between the right thing to do and the necessary thing to do. And I’ve heard many make it sound WAY too easy to know what they would do at their most basic of instincts. And everyone always focuses on the powers being what you use to decide who is in control. And in the superhero world, ALL of them, the hero is the one in control of himself and/or learning how to control himself. While the villain is always lacking restraint no matter how controlled/controlling they seem. And when that line has to be crossed for the hero…it devalues their efforts. Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, all have to be at the PEAK of control to get the ultimate result they desire. Mark…fell to what Omni-Man did to him. What could be worse?
Poor Old Eve put current Eve in a REALLY rough position and Mark being the ultimate decider only makes things worse. That’s a hard situation for ANYONE. Much more for 2 teenagers. I have not been fond of Invincible’s romance plots across the show, but THIS one has me significantly more intrigued what complex mindsets will come out of this one.

The villains are the ones who violate 😄
It's so easy to say "well I wouldn't do that" when watching a show and having no stakes. But if we're being honest, we already are making the same mistakes in situations where the stakes are virtually nothing compared to the things fictional heroes are facing.
Here's a relatively simple one that demonstrates this: "go 1 month without telling a single lie of any kind."
Sounds easy until you try it (assuming you have a certain minimum of interactions)

32:18 I think I commented this on the last episode, you keep saying Mark should be training, but he honestly doesn’t have a way to train. He’s essentially the strongest person on Earth rn and the only ones actually capable of either training him or teaching him are either way off in space or other viltrumites. From what we’ve seen in the show, the only times where Mark is actually able to show his full strength is when his or his family’s life is in danger which doesn’t leave him a lot of good safe options to actually push himself. He has to hold himself back constantly on Earth so he doesn’t essentially recreate the damage of his fight with omni man.

3:20 We established that in almost every other universe he has knowledge of(not all of them, just the ones he pulled the other versions of himself from) Mark and Omniman team up. If that happens Omniman never leaves earth and gets busy with Oliver's mom. If your specifically asking about why Mark didn't join Omniman in this universe, you gotta remember the way Mark learned the truth here was Omniman brutally murdering Immortal in front of him. He was very clearly evil here, whereas if Nolan had had the chance to more ease Mark into his way of thinking, Mark may not have opposed him the same way. Of particular note is that we are only told of Universes where Mark either joins his father or this one where he didn't. We are never told of any universes where Nolan actually has it in him to kill Mark.

angstrom's "I am the good one" ideology was actually always there even in episode 1 before the machine blow up. His powers does allow him to pass other people between dimensions too not just himself. So all the good promises he thought he was going to "ending diseases, stopping wars" could already be done if he just moved other people between dimensions, but he wanted to be the one who does it. I think there is to be said every motivation is somewhat selfish, and angstrom is a good example of how it can go wrong even when the selfish motivation is for greater good

I think in his mind and heart Mark does feel that he "didn't deserve this" While intelectually he knows it's unavoadable.Eve instictivley knows what Mark is feeling.. She was the only one who didn't offer him a variations of "You did what you had to do." Which Mark didn't need to nor want to hear again. Eve probably felt the same as everyone else but instead just offered him a shoulder to lean on .

    • @tarakolindo
      @tarakolindo 7 днів тому +1

Honestly, I was strongly reminded of the "It's not your fault" scene from Good Will Hunting, I feel like it served a similar purpose. Eve saw Mark's pain, and understood it because she just had a very similar experience of losing control of herself, leading to people being hurt. And I think Mark could glean that from Eve saying that. Also, everyone else is giving sympathy and pity to Mark, well-meaning of course, but something about "You don't deserve this" feels much deeper to me. Like Eve really, deeply knows Mark and how good of a person he is, and Mark REALLY needs that in that moment; someone to acknowledge the horrifying nature of what he did, not deny it, and still comfort him.

Its a good thing for mark that he killed Angstrom now he understands the consquences of holding back and that some situations force you to kill. There was no way to make sure he would portal them both out and Angstrom made it very clear how willing he was to kill his family. Had mark went full force from the begining none of this would have happened and he wouldn't be mad enough to kill him.

There was a few things you said that made me think about myself.
As far as envy goes, it is weird because I had never felt it before, I rarely even feel anything more than mild jealousy and it has been something I have had a hard time relating to. But one time when I was 22 I had an experience where I could only identify it as jealousy. Somebody had something I really wanted, they were so casual about it, got it so easy and it angered me. I didn't do or say anything about it but when I got home I realized how much it hurt and I felt I had to deal with this for myself now because it was an awful way to feel. The strange part is, I don't remember what conclusion I even came to at the time, but I don't feel it anymore but it still remains the only time in my life I have felt envy. It took 22 years to ever feel that which is very strange to me.
The other thing was wrong doing. Mark feels terrible for this and while I think he is justified, that means nothing if he doesn't. I did something wrong once and it has haunted me forever. The thing is, I was 10, my brain wasn't even fully developed and I am not even remotely that person anymore. If I said I did something I regret when I was 10 most people would laugh it off and say I was just a kid. These are valid excuses, I don't even disagree with them, but I still fell guilt, mainly because the person affected possibly still resents me or hates me or has changed because of me. I have went backwards and forwards in my life as to if I should reach out an apologize. On one hand they might forgive me and not care, on the other they might never want to hear from me again and I don't want to drag things back up. Regret is so much worse when it involves another person and has shaped their life because you can't be alone in coming to terms with it.
I think about this a lot with Endeavour in MHA, obviously he did terrible things and the people in his life are valid to not forgive him, but him trying is something. But with Mark, he killed this guy and there is no coming back from that fully. He can't seek forgiveness (not that he would get it) and he has affected someones life in the most permanent way. But then you think about it, his Mom and Brother were in danger... but then you are back at square one. It it a never ending loop.
The last thing I will say is I love these reactions and it is great listening to your thoughts. Most people just comment on the cool fights or whatever which is great, but I like watching these and thinking about things I never thought about the first time round.

Your philosophical look into envy is one of the reasons that I actually believe in God as a moral upholder. In the Christian perspective sin killed the world, largely because the world rewards sin. Whether that be evolutionary or behavioral or what have you. But we intrinsically know things like murder, theft, envy, rage and the like can destroy families and societies.
All this to say I agree with your assessment even if it’s from a place you wouldn’t necessarily agree with. God has helped me to realize that I am capable of all kinds of horrible things and I don’t assume my default is virtue, but I can work towards true virtue and resist my own evil when it shows up.
