When I used to make wedding dresses for clients I would take the grooms out shopping for their suits and they would go for cheap saying it was for one day until I got them to put on a higher end suit and they immediately felt the difference and understood the investement.
I’m a woman but find this channel so interesting. This was eye-opening to me. I always thought Men’s Wearhouse was supposed to be good quality, tailored suits!
Made to measure is where its at. Specificallt to your measurements. You can spend $300 at IndoChino ships in 5 weeks from Hong Kong. Or $1000 Brooks Brothers off the rack and it wont fit right... Its all about youre own measurements.
@@HeritageCastnever heard of indochino til your comment. Checked it out and now I have to go get measurements because I’m definitely buying a suit from them

Thrift shopping for suits is a great idea. My 3 favorite suits are all ones I’ve bout second hand. In fact one of them was 3 bucks, for a 3 piece suit! Other new department store suits I’ve bought for 100-200 dollars either broke, or were so uncomfortable that I don’t wear them any more.
Thank you. My friend complained about his deep cut armholes many years ago so I "stole" his jacket and took it too my tailor. luckily it could be fixed, I gave it back to him on his birthday. back when i was much younger.
Hey RMRS, thanks for giving GG the positive comment. He has the production value, candor and knowledge of his craft to be the next major youtube couture professional
We need more people with passion like you, because is invigorating to hear anyone talking with excitement about what they care about no matter what it is, thank you for sharing your knowledge I'm learning a lot!
I find this so funny to watch, because you enjoy what you are talking about, I can see it on you!!! PS: There is so much information in this video. Thank you!
Dude, I've been to New York Fashion week, wearing a Zara suit that I didn't even tailor, yet I was getting compliments after compliments on my outfit 😂. 99% of people have no clue, as long as the cut is nice and you don't let them inspect the suit😂😂😂
C'mon Justin. These days one can buy a decent wool suit under $150. As of right now a Michael Kors suit you can buy for $220, second for a half a price, what makes the price $165 a piece, in D&K. I'm not promoting D&K, I just added to my wardrobe 2 beautifully fit Michael Kors suits from that store. That's all. Even I have more than enough suits.
A real class Kiton Napoli suit? Well, to my... "embarrassment" i don't have one, I don't have money to pay extra $80% just for a brand tag. If I'd stumble into a sale, and only I'd stumble into a sale, I would consider to buy another Brioni or Dior. Otherwise, Michael Kors, at the moment, did the trick. One doesn't have to buy 3K suit to feel, look and actually be stylishly dressed. And don't be so touchy on the subject. I just felt the guy fell for your narrative. In his $160 suit, he may look better than you in your 5k Kiton Napoli or me in my best "nothing to brag about" 1k suit... ;) Cheers.
Today I checked out a local tailor here in the Philippines. Their standard suits are at Php 8,000 or about $160. I think I'm gonna give it a try and hope for the best. Thanks Sir Raphael. :)
I’ll be honest, I have never seen a suit for less than $189 at Jos A Bank. And that was $100 off. Best suit I’ve ever bought so far, super 100 wool not stiff at all. Yes it was fused but honestly I don’t find it insulating nearly as much as the polyester one I have.
This was so handy to help educate on what to look for in suits. I see all these mass produced suits that are clearly the cheapest made suits for 3-500 dollars. I don't mind the cheaper looking stuff but I don't want to pay more for less. I personally go shopping when the seasons change. Suit fashions are changing or going out of season and I go to the lesser stores - such as Kohls or JCPennies here in America, and I buy my suits (with pants) for 20-25 dollars because of clearance racks. It may not last for more than 2 years - but at 20 dollars you can quickly cycle through them and get a newer style multiple times a year
Just for the record, Joseph A Bank vintage suits are great. 30 or 40 years ago it used to be a great men's store that was destroyed by corporate. If you're vintage shopping just look for the vintage red label. If you see that you've found a great suit from days gone by!
Luckybuck61599 a great suit from 40 years ago is still stylish today I own the range with my first suits from the late 70's with only a couple with the wider lapels
The Canali suit you mentioned, I’ve had 3 of them. I still have one that I love and get compliments on. People like touching the arms or shoulders as It feels so smooth and cool to the touch. It feels that way to wear also. The trousers/pants have wider legs than others I’ve worn and feel absolutely superb! It is the most expensive of the three I’ve paid for @£80 from eBay! It is double-breasted. The others were a grey double-breasted and a navy single -breasted. I love the feeling they give me. Goodness knows how good a bespoke suit from Savile Row would feel?! A good suit makes me walk tall. People treat you better too, when you wear a lovely suit.
my dad bought a gorgeous Dior jacket 25-35 years ago, today im 20 and the jacket fits me perfectly, its almost as if they made it for me. just something interesting i wanted to share
I have a Burberry suit that costed around 1,200 dollars. I must say it is excellent in fit and quality. I have owned it for about a year or two and it still looks great.
Great vid, just picked up a nice Canali Milano suit on sale. There is no comparison to one I bought a couple years ago (if that even) for $250. The second I moved my arms up, the entire jacket would move, so that point you made on low cut arms was spot on. You can also feel the glued portions in the jacket. Would never recommend for anyone to buy a suit for under $500 - at least here in Canada. They are almost just as bad as ones that sell for $100. Even my tuxedo rental for a friends wedding wasn't that great, and it was 'fitted.' The Canali Milano is a masterpiece (relatively speaking of course, lots of other great companies around) for the price point. The second I put the jacket on, it instantly felt snug, comfortable, and little restriction in movement. At least now I have my old one to compare if my friends ask if there really is a difference.
A few points: 1. He doesn't mention having a good, old-school tailor at all. An expert tailor can make a guy in an average suit look like James Bond. Details like moving buttons up or down, changing angles/draping, lengthen/shortening a half an inch to fit, anything is doable and the suit will fit like a glove. 2. Fashions don't change fundamentally with suits for real men. Trendiness goes out of fashion all the time to make another sale. 3. The English bespoke suits are what serious professional men should be aiming towards. Mine are made in Wales ($$$ VAT taxes aside...) and whether you're standing, sitting, etc.no-matter-what, it looks perfect 100% of the time. 4. A decent shave/haircut/etc are part of the well put together man. Details demonstrate character and looking like a middle aged rabbi in a wrinkled suit when you're 20 years younger looks terrible.
I just bought a vintage Loro Piana suit handmade in Napoli, Italy for €300. Retail price was +€2000. The guy I bought it from only wore it once I believe. As you can imagine the quality is immaculate. I am very content.
Youre right! If that is your perspective on life, a $5000 suit is the least of the things will never have. Self talk and perspective creates your reality.
@@bairab Loro Piana is a wonderful brand. The baby cashmere is exclusive to them, and it's one of a kind. A vicuna and baby cashmere blend overcoat could run around $60K USD.
I once got a vintage car coat at a thrift shop. When I went to a tailor to sew on a button. I asked how much the coat might sell for, (it was about 1975) the coat, I believe was from the 1940s, and he started off his answer with,”Well, if you could find a wool of this quality...,” then said $250. Keep in mind this was in 1975 or so, when $250 was $250. I don’t think I was paying half that for a nice apartment. With sales discounts (nobody wanted it), I paid 67¢.
This was a delight to watch because the differences are laid out in a matter of fact manner without pulling any punches. This might be over simplifying but I always felt that if you are not getting measured for a suit that will be custom sewn for you, you will be getting a cheap knockoff imitation. Instead, use that $100.00 toward the price of a great suit that you will be proud to own and wear.
Your best bet is to just go to J. Press or Brooks Brothers and buy a $1,600 suit off the rack. The price of the suits they make -- by hand in the US out of Italian wool, cashmere and silk -- is nothing if not phenomenal for the superb quality...damn near unbeatable (outside Asia, anyway) And once a year they have their "Buy 2 for $2,000" annual sale, too.
I remember my first suit in H&M for $100 when i was in U.S. It isnt really that high quality since i just want a suit that i can suit sometimes. Recently during the Covid pandemic, i bought a set in Tokyo worth JPY10,000(original price JPY20,000) around in $100 usd and its way better than the old one that i bought.
@Tuna oh sorry, I just late notice of your comment. I forgot the name of the store but I bought somewhere near the Ikebukuro station. You may try The Suit Select. It's just close to the station.
I'm so thankful for Thrift stores, because I'm retired on a fixed income, and I really don't want to spend $1000 to $3000 on a suit when I have other financial responsibilities like the inherited house I have that needs some TLC. So once again I'm so thankful that I'm aware of the good deals from second hand stores, they're a life saver for many wardrobe purchased items I have.
Buying quality items at thrift stores and spending a few bucks to get them tailored is the BEST way to buy men'swear on a budget. Not even a question. I routinely see suits and sportcoats in the $500-1000 retail range selling for $20-30 at thrift stoes, usually with minimal wear. Most clothes get donated because they don't get worn, not because they're damaged. This means you can often find clothing in good condition with minimal wear.
I have a $100 and a $1000 suit. This is all 100% true. If you can afford it, try one out, you won't regret it. My $1000 suit is an off-the-rack Ralph Lauren from Dillard's of all places. Of course the fit isn't perfect being OTR but it fits a whole lot better and is ten times more comfortable than any cheaper suit I've ever owned. And they're made in Canada and not slapped together in some sweatshop in Nicaragua. Well worth the money and I plan on adding many, many more to my collection. I plan on stepping up to RL Purple Label as well one of these days.
Not many people who work in the fashion industry would drive hone the point of ”buy vintage and not fast fashion, think of the workers at the factory and the environment”. You earn some serious trust for that. This fall I’ll replace my cheap, worn out gloves with some stylish quality gloves from Fort Belvedere. Only sucks that I live in the EU and have to pay import duty, but they’re probably worth it.
Things get intresting when you start talking about 200-400 dollar suits. Some are like overpriced 100 dollar suits (Zara...) while others are build just like a 1000 dollar suit that had too much of the budget in the brand and too little in the rest. Your 400 dollar Suitsupply is typical one that beats the quality of many (fashion brand) suits well in the 1000 dollar price range...
I got an Ungaro suit for $20 in a vintage store and looked terrific in it, based on the compliments. I will have second thoughts on spending $1000 even if I could afford it because you can get a good one for $20.
oh when I study in fashion school in London, a friend of our teacher works as a handcraft mans tailor in high luxury fashion house for years told us there aren't any different between hand sew and machine sew in terms of finally effect. It just made to measure services and material and artful design make a huge difference in the quality of the garment compare from what you can get for cheaper price brand
Its ultimately just a sign that the garment is likely to be over a higher quality overall, not necessarily that the hand stitched collar is automatically better.
I love my "cheap" suit. Fits perfect, doesn't feel cheap. And I can move in it. And I saved £900 on it from not spending £1000 :D More money to buy more suits!
If you're on a budget, get a suit in the best fabric you can and have it altered by a tailor! A decent tailor can really upgrade the fit and feel of a suit and give you much more bang for your buck, as it were.
Forgot to mention that a cheap suit (most suits under $500 in western countries) have polyester lining. It doesn't matter if it's 100% wool or whatever... they always put polyester lining.
He also puts Jos A Bank on the same level as H&M. That's just not true. The mid level suits at Bank are $400 unless they're on clearance and they're much nicer.
Another thing, try restoring a cheap suit that got wet! never looks the same whilst a good suit you can dry out and lightly press and it still looks great. Packing a cheap suit usually spoils it but a good suit you can pack small ( Inside out and armholes facing ) and it still looks good. better to buy a second hand good suit than a new cheap suit. I have mens tweed jackets that are 60 years old and my favorite evening jacket was a man's one from the late 30's ! Quality NEVER goes out of style and it can make a man. And Don't get me on the subject of shoes !
I wish this site was available 40 years ago. I managed to st humble through with worsted wool, moderately narrow lapels, two buttons, double vented and spent $ 300/500 years ago. During my working years I had winter and summer suits ( more poly ) breath ability and comfortable movement were key.
4:53 Pet peeve of mine, too!! Nothing you can do to raise the armhole, even if it were worth it. I've bought some inexpensive suits that I know I can do this with that won't be too costly of complex - some of them I've done myself by hand. These can be off the rack or second-hand (TIP: second hand suits at thrift stores - look at the stores located in upscale neighborhoods, you'll find some very quality pieces for $20-50). I've made my own Halloween costumes since I was 10 and am self taught, but I have successfully: raised sleeves, brought in the waist through the seat of trousers, raise the back of a jacket, made functioning buttons/surgeon's cuffs, tapered through the leg, brought in the jacket side/waist suppression, pick stitcked, slightly tapered jacket sleeves, removed the buttonhole stitches and re-stitched to bind the edges (going for the cut, then stitch and not stitch then cut, and even removed old canvassing and relined with sewing facing I found of wool (not sure that's a good procedure, but it was half canvassed and the fusing was loose, so I removed what I could and replaced the removed pieces, stitching them in with what was not removable and anchoring it with an invisible pick stitch ... sure that's not how you do it, but it worked extremely well. I had it fully canvassed with a full chest and lighter facing in the sides and along the vents), replacing plastic buttons with horn that I bought on eBay or the fashion district ... Pet peeves of my own: 1) The peak or notch of the lapel being too low down! 2) Low armholes 3) No waist suppression / waist pulling when buttoned 4) Belts with three-piece suits - or belt loops with black tie (GRRR!) 5) Vents that pull open! 6) I have a love for roped sleeve-heads 7) Non-wool/natural fabrics (seasonal, but linen, seersucker, silk, even cotton are natural) 8) The drape!!! Need the right drape. 7:43 - You can get a suit bespoke in Hong Kong, SIngapore, etc that is better quality in material that an off the rack Brioni, Armani, etc. if you can pick the fabric. Tailors in NYC do this, where they have bolts and swatches of whole cloth that you can choose from. ALSO - if you are into Savile Row suits, look off of Savile Row: Conduit St, Jermyn St, Etc. Those tailors are usually newer to it and trying to build up to that "Savile Row" echelon. They have probably apprenticed under the top tailors and are looking to make their name. Still costly, but with a savings of maybe 1,000 GBP or so.
One last personal note: I love trousers with side-tabs. I'm 6'0 and 185lbs, slender athletic ... I wear a 33" waist comfortably depending on the cut +/- 1" (the waist sizes are never true and people don't cut them for your true waist anymore). My chest, under the arms around the pectorals, will measure 40" which is perfect for a 6" drop, but it always looks big off the shoulders. And the waist is always too big then on the jacket. Now, I recommend, highly, checking every jacket and not just looking at size as some are cut big and some small. I find a 38R works for me (still usually take the sides in a bit and shorten the sleeves) - off the rack - but sizes fluctuate off the rack. Always slip it on and check the shoulders, it's the one thing you cannot change! Cheers
Weather permitting, a fine peacoat or fine wool winter coat works perfectly on a cheap suit, it becomes the centerpiece of your look and your confidence helps hide the cheapness of a suit as well
If someone want good fashion-forward suit, they should look for Saint Laurent/Celine (anything Hedi Slimane, really), or Tom Browne. Saint Laurent is made by Zegna, construction is very good, but, as you said, they all are skinny fit, and armholes are tiny there, everything is quite restrictive, but you look like a celebrity in them.
I love wearing Vintage Suits Everyday’ because I’m a SUIT LOVER. My favorite suit were found in Thrift Stores! (I want some more Vintage Suits for Christmas this year)
You've ruined me! I was perfectly happy with my Jos. A Bank suit. Thanks a lot. : ) All kidding aside, thanks for the great info. Love your idea of buying used but I am 6 and a half feet tall. Not a lot to choose from. Time to plan a suit budget.
Sir i have a question, i want a good shirt wardrobe.....u should make a complete shirt color guide to have maybe patterns also......from beginning to advanced wardrobe!!
Your first comment about Jos A. Banks and Men's Wearhouse is not entirely true. I've seen te process on Joseph Abboud suits and they are made by hand. There are machines involved but it is for more for ironing and steaming steps of the manufacturing. The rest of the process is done by hand by workers. The avarage retail price on a JA suit is $695.00, so not $100, and Custom JA made suits start at $795.00, both have imported italian fabric and have a european cut.
Ricardo Mayol I couldn't agree more. I have two suits from Joseph Abboud..MW. 1000 apiece, custom, unbelievable fabric. Boscovs and Burlington Coat have 100 dollar suits.
Ricardo Mayol, The only part on those suits that is "made by hand" is the lapel. The edges of the lapel and maybe some stiching in the already machine sew liining. Dont let them fool you.
Now that depends where you get your suit if you go to Thailand you can get a suit costing less than £100 and yet the quality is so good you would never know
Austin burke here in Miami got $2000 for 600.. the same thing with dress shirts you can tell a $50 dress shirt from anywhere to a $350 dress shirt from Burberry
From this and the $500 vs $5000 suit video, the conclusion seems to be, if the budget is below 1K and you have no luck thrifting around for a second-hand high-end bespoke, then go for the best $1000-ish suit you can get and have it altered. Do not bother with $200 off-the-racks OR with $500 virtual-MTM. Also, thank you for the pointing out that often when the "high roller" Big Design House Brand Names sell at under-1000 MSRP, it's that *they* are cheapening out
Gentleman's Gazette I actually did. I was only stating that my current suit (which is only 230) is perfectly fine for me. Later in my life, i will invest in better suits.

Thank you. My friend complained about his deep cut armholes many years ago so I "stole" his jacket and took it too my tailor. luckily it could be fixed, I gave it back to him on his birthday. back when i was much younger.
That's an awesome thing to do for your friend. Glad he didn't "mind". ;)
Raphael - you are the MAN! Great Vid!
Thanks! I just noticed you uploaded a similar one recently
Really like the perspective you guys brought to this topic! Nice job guys 👌🏽
Hey RMRS, thanks for giving GG the positive comment. He has the production value, candor and knowledge of his craft to be the next major youtube couture professional
+John Smith lol that would make it all complete. i follow all those guys. they should do a collab panel video someday.
hey! you don't see very often RMRS and TMF commenting on the same thread
i got a 1500 dollar cashmere suit for 6 dollars at a thrift store. i am so happy.
God Bless America indeed
God Bless America how d'ya know its 1500 :P
God Bless America how so
God Bless America probably looks like its worth $5
Wtf, the material alone would probably go for 100 dollars if they were smart
We need more people with passion like you, because is invigorating to hear anyone talking with excitement about what they care about no matter what it is, thank you for sharing your knowledge I'm learning a lot!
I find this so funny to watch, because you enjoy what you are talking about, I can see it on you!!!
PS: There is so much information in this video. Thank you!
Also could you do a video about mustaches? I would like to watch it if you do so!
* moustache
I'm a woman, I will share your channel with some guys I know who desperately need these Style lessons!
A lot of UA-camrs tell you that suit is better due to quality, but tend to forget to tell you to buy what you can afford 1st....
i just bought a $160 suit and your making me want to burn it 😢😢😢😢😢
Dude, I've been to New York Fashion week, wearing a Zara suit that I didn't even tailor, yet I was getting compliments after compliments on my outfit 😂. 99% of people have no clue, as long as the cut is nice and you don't let them inspect the suit😂😂😂
it's okay..i just bought a RM70 suit which is roughly 17 USD in a H&M HAHA
C'mon Justin. These days one can buy a decent wool suit under $150. As of right now a Michael Kors suit you can buy for $220, second for a half a price, what makes the price $165 a piece, in D&K. I'm not promoting D&K, I just added to my wardrobe 2 beautifully fit Michael Kors suits from that store. That's all. Even I have more than enough suits.
G. Abarant c
Let me know when you get some real class, and buy some Kiton Napoli suits. Buy that then you will be doing something
did you try it
Is it wool tho if it's polyester then nah
This guy looks like he just stepped off the set of Boardwalk Empire.
Sonny Pruitt sounds like it too.
The suit you're wearing in this video is fantastic!
Thanks!
Totally agree.
Who is the maker of the suit you are wearing
Agreed!! What suit is that? I need it.
Brad Colesworthy The tailor of the suit is A. Caraceni. One of the best tailors in the world. He only makes bespoke suits which start at around 5000$.
He needs a moustache
Bad haircut.
i think his haircut looks slick
A square mustache... In the position between the length of his nose...
..
Zuriel Yong haha
He needs a tommy gun.
That is a beautiful suit he's wearing.
I didn't know that, Thanks.
BTW Almost EVERYTHING is ruined by Corporate! lol
Nice
I have a Burberry suit that costed around 1,200 dollars. I must say it is excellent in fit and quality. I have owned it for about a year or two and it still looks great.
i bought a $50 dollar suit and custom fit it for $40, looks perfect :D
Great vid, just picked up a nice Canali Milano suit on sale. There is no comparison to one I bought a couple years ago (if that even) for $250. The second I moved my arms up, the entire jacket would move, so that point you made on low cut arms was spot on. You can also feel the glued portions in the jacket.
Would never recommend for anyone to buy a suit for under $500 - at least here in Canada. They are almost just as bad as ones that sell for $100. Even my tuxedo rental for a friends wedding wasn't that great, and it was 'fitted.'
The Canali Milano is a masterpiece (relatively speaking of course, lots of other great companies around) for the price point. The second I put the jacket on, it instantly felt snug, comfortable, and little restriction in movement. At least now I have my old one to compare if my friends ask if there really is a difference.
Spinal2111 ...in Toronto and Montreal you can find some deals on suits if you go to the small Taylor own places.
He looks like he's standing on a slow-moving, super-strong rhoomba.
I can't unsee it now.
Joe Mama Thanks for the advice schlomo
Damn you are concerned this much with clothing. Most people get suits out of the shelf and look good
Man, I wish I could afford Bespoke Anything *_*
Although I will never buy (or be able to afford) a $5,000 suit, this video is very informative.
Whether you think you can or you can't... You're right
@@bairab Loro Piana is a wonderful brand.
Wow, the way you talk, your gestures, really inspiring
Your best bet is to just go to J. Press or Brooks Brothers and buy a $1,600 suit off the rack. The price of the suits they make -- by hand in the US out of Italian wool, cashmere and silk -- is nothing if not phenomenal for the superb quality...damn near unbeatable (outside Asia, anyway)
And once a year they have their "Buy 2 for $2,000" annual sale, too.
Yup! 2 suits for $1599 at Brooks Brothers as we speak!
My first and to date the only suit I own was $428 made-to-measure from Men's Wearhouse. I am actually thrilled with it and I love wearing it
I remember my first suit in H&M for $100 when i was in U.S.
Amazing! I'm in love with this UA-cam channel; You are the man Raphael! Keep uploading amazing videos like this! Grettings from México!
Thanks for the support. We certainly will; stay tuned! Please spread the word to your fellow gentlemen.
started from your montblanc worth it video as im a collector and now ... few videos later loving your content and subscribing :D
I love your channel! Great content, well explained!
Thank you!
That suit you're wearing looks perfect. Even when you lift and bend your hands.
FrightfulAccountant hey is your profile photo u ?
Glued polyester lining though. That is what kept me away from Suit Supply.
I´m buying my first suit tomorrow! :D
Its ultimately just a sign that the garment is likely to be over a higher quality overall, not necessarily that the hand stitched collar is automatically better.
thats a real good looking suit you're wearing.
I just bought 2 suits for 1 $165 deal. I will wear it proudly until I can afford better quality
A really useful vid. Better than the rest on the same topic.
Thank you for the support!
Oh my gosh your outfit is brilliant!
Great video, I was at a goodwill today and bought a samuelsohn suit jacket for 3 dollars Score!!!
just brought a $90 suit from Zara, quality is bad, but at least a tailor made it fit perfectly
Great video! Very educational, this is why I subscribed to your channel 👍🏼
This is probably the best looking suit on you of any of your videos
I’ve never been a huge fan of Jos A Bank, but I certainly wouldn’t mention JAB in the same breath as H&M. Totally different levels of quality
Forgot to mention that a cheap suit (most suits under $500 in western countries) have polyester lining. It doesn't matter if it's 100% wool or whatever... they always put polyester lining.
Why are there only 2 options here? What about $300-$500 suit?
He also puts Jos A Bank on the same level as H&M. That's just not true. The mid level suits at Bank are $400 unless they're on clearance and they're much nicer.
Well done sir. I appreciate your efforts in detailing the seemingly lost art of being a true gentleman.
4:25 okay that part really got me. Does this guy not know how outdated he looks? Or does he think he’s “timeless” for some reason?
Thank you for the information. Jos A Banks suits start at $297, tho, not $100.
Thank you for the video. You can even find cheap suits with no stitching at the collar, it is glued only.
and how did you buy the 1000$ suit for 80$?
if you said it on the video I think I missed it
thrift/vintage stores.
It is a 5000$ suit.
The suit looks really old school, so I bet he picked it up at a used good store.
on sale when no sucker wants to pay 1000$
This is just a marketing strategy....nothing more , nothing less
Loved the video. Great Job!
Pet peeves of my own:
1) The peak or notch of the lapel being too low down!
2) Low armholes
3) No waist suppression / waist pulling when buttoned
4) Belts with three-piece suits - or belt loops with black tie (GRRR!)
5) Vents that pull open!
6) I have a love for roped sleeve-heads
7) Non-wool/natural fabrics (seasonal, but linen, seersucker, silk, even cotton are natural)
8) The drape!!!
Cheers
Very informative. Worth a bookmark and share.
Bought a $2800 Zegna suit for $125 today on consignment. Yes I'll have to spend $100-$200 to tailor is perfectly, but it's still a steal.
I love the tip about the collar, and it's not the first time, that I've heard it. But how do I distinguish between the machine and hand sewing?
+SPookyTheKiller exactly what I was thinking.
+SPookyTheKiller REad our article, I have pictures and explain how. gentl.mn/suit-differences-full-guide
+Gentleman's Gazette Thank you :-)
SPookyTheKiller ..
The stiching by machine is all together as suppose the hand stich is has spaces in between.
Weather permitting, a fine peacoat or fine wool winter coat works perfectly on a cheap suit, it becomes the centerpiece of your look and your confidence helps hide the cheapness of a suit as well
"Herr von Eden" is awsome.
He is a designer in Hamburg, Germany.
The best Suits I've ever seen.
Too fashion forward. I think his company went bankrupt a few years ago though, so I don't know if his new suits are the same as under the old label...
Subscribed. Thanks for this info. Wish I had known this all along
(I want some more Vintage Suits for Christmas this year)
What’s your opinion on limited supply of Hugo Boss full canvas suits, I got one on sale, not sure of it was a good deal. 🤔
You've ruined me! I was perfectly happy with my Jos. A Bank suit. Thanks a lot. : )
All kidding aside, thanks for the great info.
+Mandeep Baweja We could add that to our to-do list. We'll see what happens.
Love how he’s smiling while he is bullying me😂😂
Good explaination! Great video, most people don't understand these differences.
non symmetrical tie knot... I can't even focus on the video.
the 4 in hand knot and half Windsor are asymmetrical. I think they are nice. The full Windsor knot is way too bulky
bubbles on the lapels and the shirt... 3:07 when he's talking about it. funny.
Get over it Mr. Monk
That's the point in four-in-hand knots.
This
Your first comment about Jos A.
This is my favorite suit you've worn so far
Nothing like berating men who are developing an interest in fashion and making them feel self conscious in what they can afford. How gentlemanly
I like how he pronounces his t's. Very helpful and informative!
My friend! Great video. What do you think about Walker Slater, Stewart Christie and Cordings tweed suits ?
Now that depends where you get your suit if you go to Thailand you can get a suit costing less than £100 and yet the quality is so good you would never know
Austin burke here in Miami got $2000 for 600.. the same thing with dress shirts you can tell a $50 dress shirt from anywhere to a $350 dress shirt from Burberry
Thank you for pointing out the craftmanship!
Also, thank you for the pointing out that often when the "high roller" Big Design House Brand Names sell at under-1000 MSRP, it's that *they* are cheapening out
im only 15, so a 150 dollar suit is perfectly fine with me. but when i get into a business environment, this video will help me
I can tell you did not watch the entire video...
Gentleman's Gazette I actually did. I was only stating that my current suit (which is only 230) is perfectly fine for me. Later in my life, i will invest in better suits.
A womans evening 'smocking' jacket at YSL in paris in couture not ready to wear takes 300 hours to make !
