Through my journey of completing the GameCube games in alphabetical order, I skipped over this title with the idea in mind that I'd TREAT myself to it later on.. but playing this was anything like a treat, more like a nightmare. I literally have 40 hours of footage on this game and managed to edit it all down to slightly under 12 hours which is perfect because now it can be one single video for UA-cam (12h is the limit). The first Bomberman Land game is called "Bomberman 64" and is released exclusively in Japan for the Nintendo 64 (we have a video of this already). It was an absolute blast to play. However, with this game, they decided to go even bigger on everything and it didn't do me any good personally. I don't want to comment too much on my experience with this game because I think it's very unfair considering the fact that the biggest reason I had trouble with this game is because it's ALL in Japanese. Thank GOD for the guy on GameFAQs who wrote an entire FAQ on this game. Without his help, this would've been impossible. Bomberman Land 2 has 5 areas as opposed to 1 area in the original Bomberman Land. The concept is still the same. You walk into those little buildings and play fun minigames. If you beat the highscore, you get a token. If you fail a minigame for too long in the main game, you'll eventually be awared the token anyway. I believe this happened with 2 or 3 of the minigames in the recording (but all previous failures were cut out). What's really expanded upon in this version is not only the MUCH bigger map, but also the fact that most of the tokens are no longer earned from minigames, but rather by solving clues. This is what makes it so incredibly difficult to play as it's all in Japanese. You basically talk to random people and sometimes it triggers a next step towards a token. For example: If you talk to Person B, nothing happens. But if you first talk to Person A and then to Person B, you'll get a different dialogue from Person B. Now, you can talk to Person C and back to Person B and then back to Person A again. Congratulations, a token! (but what actually happened here, what did they say?). Some characters appear only after talking to other characters first and some areas can't be entered until you receive a special key item from another character. Now mind you, even though most of these events happen all within the area map, sometimes you also have to go to the Red Area to talk to a guy that'll trigger an event in the Green area that'll then trigger a token in the Blue area. That brings me to the following important thing I have to mention.. this video is probably not perfect. Even the maker of the FAQ didn't exactly know what the hell he was doing sometimes so if you're using this video for walkthrough purposes and something isn't happening like it happens in my video, I suggest you go around the area and talk to EVERY person, twice.. and then continue where I left off. I say twice because sometimes a character triggers different dialogue the second time you talk to them. If his dialogue changes the second time around, then you probably found a trigger. Hooray! (This is actually exciting because sometimes I'd be running around the map for 2-3 hours talking to everybody repeatedly). I think you get the idea. Anyway, once all tokens are collected.. the credits roll and you finish the game. This unlocks the POST-GAME. The post-game has exactly the same annoyance where you just keep running over the map talking to everybody over and over and over and over again. There's no minigames in the post-game, but there are dungeons instead. You already got a taste of these during the pre-game and they were enjoyable.. but in the post-game you get too much of it and it's no longer enjoyable. The dungeons are basically small maps where you just kill a bunch of enemies. Unfortunately the Boomerang seems to be a much better weapon than the Bombs so you're killing them all using Boomerang attacks rather than Bombs like Bomberman is supposed to do. There's a few boss fights and the post-game ends with a final boss fight. Nothing difficult, but fun anyway. Another ending and credits enroll Congratulations, you've now made it to the post-post-game. Yes. Really. I'm not joking. The post-post-game is a super small island where you no longer have to run clues so thank god for that. Instead, it has these extremely difficult minigames and you actually HAVE to beat the highscores in this one. They don't just grant you success after a while, not even after two hours. If you done all that, you restart the game and the island has changed a bit. Now you can fight all the bosses from the post-game again on easy/medium/hard difficult. Kill all of them. Restart the game. Now you can kill ALL BOSSES AT ONCE. Do that. Restart the game. Now there's another special fight.. but it's not so difficult. Do that. Restart the game. Now go get the princess. Walk around with her for a bit (I did this earlier on). She'll go home. Now go to the boat. One final ending sequence. Now you're really done. Did you get your money's worth? I'm sure so. Honestly, if you like this game, go play the N64 Bomberman Land 64 instead. You'll have almost no trouble playing that one if you can't read Japanese.. only touch this one if you're really a fan or if you can read Japanese.
You probably dont care but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can watch all the new series on Instaflixxer. Been binge watching with my brother during the lockdown =)
Btw, in 4:47:40, you can get the blue ticket which is required to ride those carpets and stuff in World Blue by curing the space creature in the house at A-6(I guess!?)with the rainbow coloured water obtained in dolphin island. It wasn't so hard to do and it saves you 1000 coins. Coins aren't necessarily easy to get by, so I will prefer doing this to get the ticket for free. That will explain the reason why the space creature was cured out of nowhere when he got the ticket for 1000 coins. P.M.: I am aware of the 10000 coins in World Blue above the shop, but what about people who does not know about its existence?
i really don't like Hudson anymore after this title and Cubic Lode Runner which I gave me nightmares the past week whilst recording it. So far any JP exclusive Hudson title I've played has been dreadfully difficult
Jeez, at least Bomberman Kart DX was less text reliant. And I gotta say, both that game and this one are the best Bomberman Land games I've played so far.
Great work! I played this game when I was a kid, but I remember there were so many mini-games and some were very difficult. Also, I imagine that it is very difficult to clear this game that is not localized by non-Japanese people. You would have been really hard. This game uses a lot of hiragana instead of kanji (Chinese characters), so you shouldn't have been able to learn letters. Except for はい , いいえ , ピース and more. Finally, please tell us about any interesting mini-games or memorable mini-games or events in this game.
Thanks for your comment. I actually want to learn Japanese for these games I record as I heard most of it is Kanji which is apparently pretty easy. I don’t really have any memorable mini games although I’d say the majority of them were fun to play. They felt like fun rewards for playing thru the story mode
It takes tremendous effort to learn Japanese perfectly, but it will not be difficult to learn only the Japanese that comes into the game. It will surely be useful when you play not localized Japanese games. I hope you will work out.
Bobby8451 i sure didn’t lol:) make sure you use the gamefaq’s thats available for this game... it’s a godsend, although not perfect as the writer didn’t always know how to trigger the next part of the game
I don't know how but I get this game when I was a child (I live in South America) and was divided between the Kart Dx in english and this adventure game in japanese. It was so frustrating to don't even read a word with a game that seems so interesting... anybody knows what's the plot of this?

I must admit, it feels pretty good to see White Bomber get kissed on the cheek by his crush, Pretty Bomber. I guess, I'm pretty much a White X Pretty shipper at heart. I wish Konami could've realized that White and Pretty were meant to be a couple, instead of... Well, you know.

@Red5pizza try it please!!! I LOVEEEEEE THIS GAME!!
