The cover plate doesn't always just fall out. Mine required considerable coaxing after removing all the screws and making some space between the motor assembly. But helpful video none the less. It also didn't have the plastic quick connect, maybe a generation older. It used ring connectors. Was able to solder the wires around the old connectors.

The Makita 5007 circular saw is actually an improved copy of the Skil 553. IMHO the Makita 5007 is the finest 7-1/4" helical drive circular saw in the world.

Makita didn't copy anybody, by the time the Makita 5007NB was even introduced, the Skil 550 saws had a massive design change from all aluminum to a newer plastic design. If you're referring to the plastic 553, it is nothing like the Makita. The Makita is definitely a lighter, smoother running saw, not to mention it looks nothing like the later model 553.

Hi Ernie. Looks easy enough to do. Thanks. Do you have a video or can you direct me to a video to check the armature or commutator? My brushes are fine but my saw won't run... It did spark a bit then quit.

First thing I do with a new saw is install a 12ga 15' cable. Just bought a new 5007Mg, a 25' 12ga extension cord. Cot off 10' and install a new 15A male plug and have a 10' extension cord and a 15' power cord.

Thanks for a very informative Video! One question the cord #664265-4 available on amazon is only 8ft; what are the part numbers of the longer cords? Regarding the Ferret Bead, most people don't know why they should leave it on the power cord. I suggest elaborating on that a little more. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge in a great video.

    Where is the saw made?

One more question the replacement cord #664265-4; is shown as (16 AWG) and the original cord is (14 AWG).. Do they make an original size or a heavy amp cord like a 12 AGW?
