Always wanted to visit this place. Also Sherkala mountain, Karynzharyk depression, and the mysterious, so-called “Valley of Balls” near Sherpa and Torysh.
Btw, the “ancient ocean” that used to cover this region is called by geologists the “Paratethys” ocean. It was essentially a remnant of the great Neotethys ocean (some of the rocks in Ustyurt region were deposited while the Neotethys ocean existed too), which remained after the collision of India and Africa with Northern Eurasia, which closed the Neotethys ocean. The Paratethys ocean, unlike the Neotethys, was mostly an epicontinental sea, meaning that it was a sea which covered continental crust, rather than a true ocean floored by oceanic crust, like the Atlantic, Indian, or Pacific oceans. The Paratethys was an inland epicontinental sea, bounded by Turkey, the Caucasus and Iranian Plateau, and the Himalayan Plateau on the south, and stretched all the way from the Pannonian Basin (in Hungary) in the west to the Hexi Corridor (in China) in the east. Today’s Black Sea, Caspian Sea, and Aral Seas are the only remnants of this once-great inland sea. Despite what I said about not being floored by oceanic crust, while this was true for 95% of the Paratethys, there were small, select areas of the Paratethys floored by pieces of oceanic crust which was once part of the much larger Neotethys ocean and oceanic tectonic plate, which was mostly completely subducted under northern Eurasia from 90-21 million years ago. These pieces of remnant oceanic crust exist under the southeast and southwest deepest basins of today’s Black Sea, and the southern, deepest part of the Caspian Sea. The reasons for the disappearance of this once-great Paratethys ocean are twofold: first, the continued collision of the African, Arabian, and Indian tectonic plates with the Eurasian plate, which has created the massive Tethyan Cordillera, a vast line of mountains that stretches for thousands of kilometers and includes the Betic mountains of Spain and Rif of Morocco, the Alps of Central Europe, the Dinarides and Carpathian Mountains, the Pindos and Rila mountains in Greece, the Anatolian Plateau, a Taurus, and Pindos mountains of Turkey, the Caucasus Mountains, Iranian Plateau, Hindu Kush, Pamir, and the great Himalayas, finally ending in the Arakan range in Myanmar and the great Sumatran volcanic arc. Second, the fall of global temperatures since 35 million years ago and the transition of global climate from a greenhouse to an icehouse state, which has resulted in global eustatic sea level falling nearly 100m relative to today, as a result of the growth of the polar ice caps, which didn’t exist at all before 35 million years ago in the greenhouse climate that existed in earth, and really fell quickly starting 2.5 million years ago, at the beginning of the Pleistocene epoch, when the arctic ice sheets began to form. In fact, 20,000 years ago, sea level was an additional 100m lower than it is today, and during this Quarternary Ice Age, sea level has oscillated between that lowstand of -100m relative to today, during glacial periods, and sea levels somewhat higher than today’s, during interglacial periods. During these colder recent glacial periods, with sea level 100m lower compared to today, the remnants of the Paratethys-the Black Sea, Caspian Sea, and Aral Sea, were also much smaller than today, partially because of lower global sea level, in the case of the Black Sea, and partially because of even drier inland climate, in the case of the other two. Ok, that’s all, I just wanted to give some more background on the “ancient ocean” that was mentioned.

Breathtaking desert landscapes 🤩👏🏻 Bozzhira, "Tiramisu", soo beautiful! Unfathomable indeed! 😉😁 I believe it was worth the torture of a cramped 4-hour drive and 50 degree temperatures to lay eyes on that otherworldly landscape (easy for me to say! 😄). Being such a remote region also contributes to the area not being swarmed by tourists as you stated Matt. I love mountainous areas with lush vegetation, but those barren views gave me gooseflesh! Thanks so much for taking us with, I "re-winded" several times just to enjoy those vistas over and over! ❤❤

Chris from Ann Arbor here. That was simply AWESOME. What a tour. I bet some movie would love to use that scenery. Told you guys before to check out "Itchy Boots" on youtube. Series 6, episode 106, scenery in MOAB, UTAH, USA. Also Series 1, episodes 83 to 85, Kazakhstan. You will love it. She does it all by herself by motorbike. Of course, you would need one with a sidecar. I religiously follow you and her and am NEVER DISAPPOINTED! This episode showed something UNWORLDLY but breathtaking. I got scared when drone was on the ground and a giant with black shoes was walking up to it. Thot he would crush it. 😅🤣😂 Thanks for a truly gggggggreat trip. Be safe, always praying for safe travels. P.S. wait til you get further east, they have some places making Plov by the ton in giant 10 to 12 foot wok type pans!

@@MattandJulia That's so funny and terrible at the same time . Maybe Adult Nappies might be a safe way to go on these longer trips , to be sure to be double sure. 🤭😄😄
I think maybe the Astronauts might be using this technique .😄
Have lots of fun you two and stay safe .
It's 2:14 am here in SYDNEY AUSTRALIA and it's bed time for me so lights out and I'll see 👀 you in your next video 🖐🖐🖐😴😴😴

Its really wonderful seeing places not widely known entire the world but stunningly beauriful!!! Its boring to see so famous places where the rich & famous goes but nothing , only the signature of being able in expensive fancy food & clothing , hotels & casinos , man made beauty for commercial purposes .
