I now live in Australia, after living in Canada, the United States and the U.K. I have lived here in Oz long enough to have grown used to Aussie Christmas's. A Christmas BBQ with salads, cooked prawns and lots of beer. What's not to like.
Absolutely! I'm saving up my Woollies rewards dollars so I can buy a couple of kilos of prawns, bread rolls, lettuce, seafood sauce and salads for Christmas :D I usually peel the prawns the day before, stick them in the fridge so I can start the bingeing early on Christmas Day lmao and nothing tastes better than a prawn roll and a cold beer on Christmas :)
Amen. As a skippy that has lived in France, the UK and the middle east I honestly have to say Chrissy in Oz is the best...sunshine, beaches and positive vibes from good people. Prawns on the Barbie and a dip in the ocean on Christmas Day... you genuinely can't beat it. :)
@@louisaklimentos7583 Well I’m not sure what made you think we don’t celebrate Jesus’s birthday. But that’s not at all what this was about. you saw me for less than 20 min and for a minute of that video Christmas was mentioned. Religion was not. Therefore no one heard my views in detail about any of that topic. FYI, I had to wish Jesus a happy birthday every Xmas morning as the first thing I did that morning before gifts. You can’t comment on things you know absolutely nothing about. You don’t know me. You see videos of me in for a handful of minutes, and that’s it.
I’ve seen a study where kids take tests at school with and without shoes. Taking them off actually increases their results every time. I thought it was fascinating
I don’t think any of our supermarkets are 24 hours anymore but we do have multiple 24 hour gas stations (or servos) And the closest thing to a 24 hour McDonald’s we have is a 22 hour McDonald’s where they close for 2 hours to clean. They used to be 24 hours though. But we have 24 hour diners which is probably a very American thing.
@@firebrand2619 Thank you for clarifying Servo. Funny enough I was actually thinking this morning that I didn’t know what you called them there. I guess I assumed you said petrol station like in the UK lol.
The warm months of the year I often see people walking around in the grocery store barefoot or sometimes in their swimsuit with just a beach tail towel wrapped around themself I have never seen a sign Saying no shirt no shoes, no entry. You do have to pay for the little satchels of tomato sauce and you better sit down for this one mayonnaise as well.😮 but if you go for a sitdown meal in a restaurant and there’s a source bottle on the table it’s free…… You can go into a pub barefoot during the day but dress codes apply in the evening.
I can kinda understand going in a grocery store barefoot if you came straight from the beach or something but idk I wouldn’t personally go into a store completely barefoot. I’ll walk around outside barefoot tho lol
Ross is a 'gorgeous' AussieBrit, hope he will settle in properly and get over the football thing and the cost of sauce! Look forward to hearing his real Aussie accent soon! 😄
Talking about coffee shops being open, I think it depends on where you are. For instance, if you are in a major beach suburb that has a lot of tourism, you might find that the owner decides to keep his or her coffee shop open longer because there is a lot of trade. If you are in a small suburb in the outskirts of a city there is not likely to be much open. I live 36 kms from Adelaide and in one of the major country towns and these close their doors pretty early because they are usually in malls and they all close by a certain time. The supermarkets like Coles stay open til 8pm but I think the coffee shops close well before that. Probably at 5pm or so.
All day 24 /7 Sydney or Melbourne out in the burbs it's 5 PM back when I was kid it was Midday Saturday until Monday in emergency there are lots of hospitals
We play two types (debatably) NRL (National Rugby League) and AFL (Australian Football League) and they tend to fall somewhere in between USA and UK in regards to play style. Would you consider reacting to "I still call Australia home" (QANTAS)and "I am Australian" (The seekers)?
They moved to Australia during the pandemic. After covid in Australia, things didn't seem to open back up again. Shops that were open 24/7 aren't anymore. In Brisbane, the average temperature in winter is 74 degrees F / 22 C.
I am very spiritual and found out in recent times that when the ascension takes place in a few months time and people move into the 4th and 5th dimension, it is a good thing to earth yourself by walking barefoot on soil. You have to do a lot of other things like meditating etc., but it brings you closer in your spiritual evolution, closer to God.
Hello there! I'm a 5th generation Aussie but I hardly ever say g'day. I don't like calling people "mate" and prefer to use there name or something I've made up just for them. Last night I saw this interview with a very tall Texan, Mason Cox, who now plays AFL. It gives a much better feel for the culture from a US perspective than the Brit you showed. It's so beautiful to see a crowd of around 80,000 chanting USA USA USA in support of him (except for the opposition team). Maybe I'm biased as he plays for my team. And, yes, the shops stay open late unless you're in a 2 horse town. ua-cam.com/video/XY3a_yMgvxg/v-deo.html
These guys settled in Queensland - the warmer northern climate. Personally I think the barefoot thing is overstated unless you live up north. Queenslanders do believe they're the only people in Australia so it's an easy mistaken impression to get. 😉 Typically in the populous areas down south and in the big cities, you won't find people wandering around stores or malls without footwear, and if you tried to do it in a city pub you'd likely be told to leave. Also "most" Aussies dropping the C bomb as a term of endearment is an exaggeration. Women rarely use the word unless they're.... ahem.... somewhat "bogan" inclined, and though guys use it much more commonly, it's usually an insult. But it's true that it can occasionally be a greeting between good male friends. We do tend to swear in conversation a lot!
Ah ok so like here, each region has their own ways of being, which makes perfect sense to me. You can never take one persons view on something as fact. I imagine him being British he sees things differently than an American would.
There is a motto that is used a lot. In the US, you live to work. In Australia, we work to live. The minimum wage is higher down here and people don't like working overtime if they don't have to. As many of the cities are coastal and close to beaches and events people want to have more time off. Also your tipping culture means your wait staff need to work long hours to make a good pay-packet to take home because the greedy employers take advantage of the fact that they don't have to pay much for their workers and it is dependent on the workers to make money through tips.
Footy or football is a very Australian game because I think it was played first in Australia and it uses a oval shaped ball. To us in Australia soccer means a round ball and a completely different game where it is all footwork (I think). Not being into sport myself, I am not 100% sure on that. The 1st football match in Australia took place in Melbourne on 15th June 1859 and earlier football matches were not recorded.
Its rare to pay for sauce normally in these containers you pay But stores put in on for free behind counter Their are selected fast food chains open 24 / 7 also servo same with pharmacy chemist Otherwise if desperate for medication because kids are sick you can go to hospital see a doctor or nurse They are able to prescribe drugs and they have a pharmacy in the hospital So at a pinch if you want to sit in emergency for hrs you can get medication Our sevo are like little supermarkets carry the basics food pain killers The food can be ready made or buy meat veg diary and take home and make but limited product range besides more exspensive So if your a shift worker you can get basic stuff It varies from state's as do the stores and food chains even products Due to different climate's some tropical so colder wet or like mine hot Mediterranean and smaller population Bigger populations more store chains Im glad your still enjoying doing this even without your daughter Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
Well as far as emergency situations go, in the US the last thing you wanna do is take your baby to the hospital for a fever or something. Those bills are the reason a lot of Americans are broke. (You can pay up to $1,200 for an ambulance ride alone) So it’s nice to be able to run into a gas station or something up the street for childrens Tylenol or whatever you need. You know?

I live in Melbourne , it's actually illegal to go bare foot in any place that sells food and and drink and shops don't close randomly . Queensland seems to be the exception to the rule compared to other states .
The term Soccer originated in Oz because our football is older, it's older than any American sport also And if you accept it's origins in marn grook then it's possibly the oldest sport in the world
just googled it,The term “soccer” originated in England and was initially used to differentiate association football from rugby. As rugby football was shortened to “rugger,” association football became known as “soccer” due to the abbreviation of the word “association” 12. Linguistically creative students at the University of Oxford in the 1880s coined the term “assoccer,” which was further shortened to “soccer” and quickly spread beyond the campus. However, in Great Britain, “soccer” remained more of a nickname, while rugby football became known as just plain “football.” In the United States, the sport that borrowed elements from both rugby and association football adopted the term “soccer,” which eventually became more popular than either of its predecessors 1. So, despite its British origin, “soccer” is now more commonly associated with American usage.
Good thing though we don't mind paying for sauce when we have one of highest paid workers, Medicare and free public hospitals emergencies departments. We also have free drs until 16 years of age after that we pay but get nearly half refunded through Medicare. We have some amazing free services for mental health like councilling etc if u can't afford paid ones. We can get up to 6 weeks paid holidays, certain amounts of sick days, personal leave days etc. Our kids get over 6 weeks holidays in Dec/ Jan in summer. We get 5 months day light savings which means it doesn't get dark until 9pm in our spring/ summer seasons. If you wanted to see every Australian beach it would take you everyday for 27 years. We created polymer notes which is colourful and beautiful bank notes with lots of detail which pretty much makes it so you cannot fraud it
It doesn’t get dark until 9pm here in the Midwest as well. I think the west coast might be earlier than us. And we do have programs that help people with medical. Like my kids are on a program that gives them free care till 18 and if they go to college or live at home after that it goes to 25. So it’s not like Americans can’t get help in some ways. It’s just sad how MANY of us need the extra help bc healthcare is too expensive.
I'm and Aussie and proud to say I'm also an 'ahole' 😁the only greeting I'll give strangers is 'The Bird'. Barefoot in public isn't real common but no one takes much notice particularly when it's kids. McDonalds operate 24/7 so if you want takeaway or coffee you can always get something. But in the major city centers cafe's and diners are available 24/7 Yep, the scabs will charge you for any little thing like sauce, water or even a teabag. Brisbane is fine if you like the humidity 24/365. AFL or Aussie Rules Football is based loosely upon Galic (Irish) football.
As you said a lot depends on region most of what he said would apply somewhere in Australia .You struggled with the AFL i see ,maybe you could react to "a beginners guide to Australian Football Afl Explained " There are a number of versions out there but this one is the latest by the AFL and includes some stuff about the womens game .The game is also played in the US at an Amateur level its called USAFL probably a team in your state .
Australia's geologically large, and there's big differences between a major city/country town and North/South weather. You're right, Melbourne is a 24 hour city in many respects, but you wouldn't go bare foot too often in the city, outside of summer days in the suburbs. I mean it's human nature and probably the same in the states. Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory is all Aussie Rules footy (AFL), and New South Wales and Queensland is heavily rugby states. Depending on where you are, sauce is sometimes an extra charge. It's annoys everyone, trust me
He is wrong about shops closing early. Our small town has 2 supermarkets & petrol stations that are open 24/7. Cafes & other food outlets work out when their clients want them open & tailor their hours to suit. Going barefoot is a beach area & warm northen regions activity but only certain people do it. The vast majority wear appropriate footwear.
If you (or anyone else reading these comments) takes nothing else from this comments thread - please know; - AFL = Australian Football League (kind of like Gaelic football, kind of not) - Soccer = soccer, what the rest of the world (apart from North America) calls football - ARU = Australian Rugby Union. Rugby Union is NOT Rugby League (although it is similar, but not the same league / competition). 'Union' or 'Rugby'is from England and Rugby League branched off from it. Union is less followed than 'league'. - NRL = National Rugby League. This is played predominantly in NSW and QLD, more watched and followed than union. But the takeaway is that union and league are 'same same, but different' sports, they don't play each other, they're different competitions... & whatever you do, do not confuse these sports in NZ. There is nothing that a NZer takes more seriously than Rugby Union.
There are various football games played in Australia. The dominant games are Rugby League, Rigby Union, Soccer, and Australian Rules. Soccer was very little known until the influx of migrants forrlowing WW II. Rules used be limited to the southern states, but over the last 20 years or so has spread into NSW and Queensland. League is a professional game played largely in Queensland and NSW. Union is also played in those States - it is a very different game to League and used be a game for amateurs. The distinction between professional and amateur has become very blurred. I live in a Sydney suburban area where you'd be very unlikely to see people going barefoot in shopping centres and definitely never in hotels or clubs.
He isn't the only POM (Prisoner of his Majesty) to be the foot police. Get over it. His story about shops is brief and mostly wrong. Things you need (food fuel etc) are always available but you don't need a power tool a 3 a.m. He also makes brief mention of animals and spiders but if it's so bad why go barefoot? Answer :because it's not bad. Hope daughter is doing well.
we use the word pom.. you look so much like my lady from the US... it's freaking me out!!! it's called footy.. um hard to define, but I;m a Kiwi and mates were All Blacks... so it's footy, er, Rugby.. I also trained as a Chef in Sydney.. Gorgeous is a word we all use down here!!! NO. coffee shops normally shut at about 4pm.. we are very very different here... I now live 40 minutes from him.. I left Sydney!!! why?? can't and won't explain here!!! I've been around the world.. been to the US.. and I have a very very severe opinion...it's a comlicated issue as he says... he's a Pom.. My blood is??? pommy!!! My mother came from Cornwall!!! been there and loved it!!! thanks Doc Martin!!!! I also live on a rural property.. so I moved out of Sydney to outta Brizze for a reason.. guess what the reason is!!! That T- shirt tell me everyting.. I have never ever seen the movies and never will.. Why? this bloke is 40 minutes away from me. same as Bondi was from where I lived in Sydney... Do I know Bondi??? oh yes and every good food spot... and some of the stars from the show, but they are just normal blokes!!!

I don't know where he's living, but we never pay for sauce where I live!
Good to know there are places that won’t charge for a small packet of sauce. 👍
If you (or anyone else reading these comments) takes nothing else from this comments thread - please know;
- AFL = Australian Football League (kind of like Gaelic football, kind of not)
- Soccer = soccer, what the rest of the world (apart from North America) calls football
- ARU = Australian Rugby Union.
Lol I’m aware of the different sports there but I’m not someone who is personally into sports. But thank you for educating 😄
Barefoot isn't that common I rarely wear shoes if I don't have to
Omg.. football in uk full name is ASOCIATION FOOTBALL. ASOC gave Soccer.
Thanks
You are the sweetest! Thank you so much! 💜💖
If food is so good that you want to gorge yourself, is that food not gorgeous?
Each to their own, but I would never call food gorgeous. but again each to their own.
Lol I mean if you think so then more power to you. I just don’t use that term for food 😂
Australia's Rugby is Rugby League, not Rugby union. They are different sports. Yes, AFL is Australian Football League.
Oh thank you!
@@ToniaElkins you're welcome!!
That should of course have been Rugby Union
He isn't the only POM (Prisoner of his Majesty) to be the foot police. Get over it. His story about shops is brief and mostly wrong. Things you need (food fuel etc) are always available but you don't need a power tool a 3 a.m. He also makes brief mention of animals and spiders but if it's so bad why go barefoot? Answer :because it's not bad. Hope daughter is doing well.
Most of this is silly stupid based on limited experiences. 🇦🇺
It's Football to me, not soccer......because most of the sport is played with the feet not the hands like Grid Iron and Aussie Rules 🤣
I get it. We call it what we grow up with. 🤷🏻♀️
His comments bout shopping hours are complete crap. Ditto that everybody goes barefoot. Same for C bombs.
It depends on the area and people you associate with etc
@@firebrand2619 Agree but it the vast majority of cases he is not correct.
