I was lucky enough to work at Laguna Del Lagarto Lodge back in 2002(?) and had a very close encounter with a covey of Tawny-faced quail. Thanks for the vid!

A great privilege to not only have witnessed the quails but also to work there. Congrats

Beautifully composed and produced, J-D, our sincere compliments. You’ll be doing shows for National Geographic before long. Great high quality photographs of the Piprites. Sorry we were already back in the states and missed our chance! Alas!
It was a nice message about preserving habitat for rare species. More of that is needed. Organizations like the American Bird Conservancy are supposed to exist to help protect habitat, but I’ve never had any luck getting their attention. You might send them a note, however, and ask for some interest? Being a local professional might help. Can’t hurt; especially with something already so rare and a very limited region.
You could be right in your “Rarest Three.” They certainly are ones still on our lists (sigh!). I could add the Ground Cuckoo and Black-eared Wood Quail (another sigh!).
It has been a pleasure getting to know you, and finding some of those “Lifers” like Tiny Hawk. Thanks! Best wishes for a healthy and safe year to come in the CR birding world. We hope to be back sometime this year. Can you please tie the Piprites to a long string to keep him there?

We notified the Piprites to please don’t stop calling so we can find it when we get the time to go with you. We just didn’t get his confirmation. 😉
And thank you for all the nice notes and compliments. Your support and your opinions “spreading the word” are essential for us to achieve successful conservation projects down here in the field.
Let’s stay in touch and happy new year 2021. Looking forward to bird together soon.

@@lifer-birdingtheworld6896 Nice if you can get Mr. Piprites to heed your words. It was especially nice to hear you make a plea to protect the environment. Preservation of habitat is the Number One need for all species.

Awesome video. That's a pretty rare bird considering how birded CR is.

Yes! that is correct. It is a pretty tough bird to see. Maybe it will be totally unknown if it was occurring with the same frequency and habits in places like Bolivia or Venezuela.
