Tihany

A 77 km hosszú Balaton Közép-Európa legnagyobb tava, 594 km2-es területtel. Legkeskenyebb pontja Tihanyban található, ahol szélessége mindössze 1,5 km, míg Balatonvilágos és Balatonalmádi között akár 13 km-re is megemelkedhet a parttól a partig terjedő távolság. A Balaton egyik leghíresebb látnivalója a Tihanyi-félsziget és a Bencés Apátság.
Ahhoz, hogy igazán értékelni tudjuk, amit látunk, nem árt, ha legalább részben ismerjük a történelmi hátteret.
A félsziget nagy népszerűségre tett szert az apátság falairól visszaverődő tihanyi visszhangnak köszönhetően, amely 700 méterről is hallható volt; azonban ma már alig hallható a fák és házak miatt.

Its narrowest point can be found at Tihany where its width is only 1.5 km, while the distance from shore to shore can rise up to 13 km between Balatonvilágos and Balatonalmádi. One of the most famous sights of Lake Balaton are the Tihany Peninsula and the Benedictine Abbey. In order to truly appreciate what you're seeing, it doesn't hurt to be familiar - at least in part - with the historical background. The peninsula has gained great popularity due to the echo of Tihany reflected from the walls of the abbey that could be heard at a distance of 700 metres; however, it is barely audible today due to the trees and houses.
