    My heart is in it, but my head is out of the game. Wiping out and crushing my foot left me with a long physical recovery, but now, it's time to for ride recovery. I've lost my off-road mojo. Let's find a path back.

    Alex is amazing! He helped me through a shoulder injury a while back, and also tailored the exercises to transition into the FORCE test. So happy to see you back on the bike and loving every minute of it!

      He's great! I too mentioned the FORCE test as a goal. Very happy I didn't yak during it last Thursday, lol. But overall, the physio was one of biggest parts of the recipe for recovery.

    It’s nice to hear someone talk out loud what I’m saying in my head when I’m riding!!! Lol 😆

    • @IslandADV
      @IslandADV  4 місяці тому +1

      I do it all the time. "Chin up, look up, keep on the throttle." Talking to yourself isn't insane when it's into a microphone, lol. But a little crazy is sometimes necessary.

    I feel your pain 😅. I broke my big toe last year, I had external pins for 6 weeks and recovery last 6 weeks. It was forbidden to put my foot on the floor so life was a nightmare. When they removed the pins I had big plans…wash my KLR, cut the grass….nothing because I lost so much muscles that I was almost unable to walk.

      It's crazy how much muscle is lost, eh? I was shocked how my left calf started to feel like jello after a month on the couch. So glad physio was able to build it back up

      @@IslandADV exactly, my calf on the bad side was measuring 20 cm and the good one 40…

    Once bitten twice shy. Let's not forget all new suspension gives it a new feeling better but different. Someday out riding hay that was fun .Great video thank you. Cheers to ya.

    • @IslandADV
      @IslandADV  4 місяці тому +1

      That's so true. And the suspension does make the bike feel so different. It feels like it's not bucking me around on the trickier terrain as much now which is great. Cheers!

    I appreciate your method of getting back into the groove. I really need to play around in sand like that....... it's just something I've never been comfortable with. Cheers!

      I've been very careful with the come back. There's layers to it that's for sure. Physical and mental. Friday I took the ATV trail home from work and it was super fun. I did really good with it, but my bad foot was starting to ache and the calf was so tired by the end of it. 45 min of that and I was gassed and aching. So the recovery continues, lol.

    happy to see you still have your enthusiasm! it's awesome that alex tailored your physio. the cleanup looked remarkable.

      Yes the physio was amazing! It's so cool how much training these pros have. So much so that they can tailor recovery for a super specific purpose. His knowledge of muscle groups and overall foot and leg things is super impressive. I've got another appointment next month. Can't wait to show all the progress.

    I can relate to this. I am just recovering home after knee surgery after a stupid fall few months ago on patch of ice.

      I'm sorry to hear that man. I hope you recover fast. That first part of the recovery process is tough. I ended up playing a LOT of video games (Lots of Fallout 4), and built some fun models while sitting on the couch too (Gunpla). Time is the medicine now.

    Great work....the blooming point beach.....many times riding the F9 at highway speed out to the point, and climbing a few dunes on the way....there was a big bowl on the left that we would ride the inside ...30 ft wide and 20 feet deep.....those were the days. I definitely have to get over and do that run with you....can tell by the ride the suspension is working good for you, and that will give you the ability and confidence to get back to where you were and beyond...as buzz says...to infinity and beyond. After all. it's just like riding a bike! 😁 Garth...your brudder from anudder mudder!

      I'd love to rip across that beach. Or any beach for that matter. It would be a blast. And yes, the suspension is crazy good. I was on the ATV trail Friday after work and it was night and day. Was bounding through it all, and the bike was just eating it up, loving the terrain. Such a good mod for this bike.

    It’s great ti see you back on the trails, you have a healthy vision for your recovery, and you’re not shying away from the challenge. Good on you brother, keep up the good work. Cheers!

      Thanks! It's tough. Part of me wants to push hard on trails. Part of me knows that's the wrong approach. I was on the ATV trail Friday after work, and it was a blast. But my foot and calve was feeling the ache a bit. More trail time is needed for sure.

    Toughest thing I’ve found to do is stand and take your left hand off the bars while standing. Maybe to wave at somebody or adjust your helmet visor or something like that. Glad you’re back at it. I’m still working on my back and now shoulder. Possibly torn rotator cuff.

    • @IslandADV

      I hope your recovery goes well. That's sounds brutal for an injury.
      For me, I'm still struggling to shift the bike while standing up. That's why I end up sitting down often when in the stand.

    I rode through this area last season, around the Jack Campbell Road. Great red dirt ride. But on that day with the mud holes, heavy sand and a nearing replacement rear tire on the VStrom, it was sketchy at times 😆

      It's a great spot, eh? It can have all sorts of terrain. A great practice spot for sure. There's tons of interesting wildlife through here too. I've seen eagles, owls, and a variety of critters in these woods over the years.

    I miss the sound of the single-banger... I gotta get my KLR back on the road and head out to the rock for a rip. Great video.

    • @IslandADV

      Thanks! That sound is iconic, eh. It's like an animal. I'll always pull that throttle just hear it.

      @@IslandADV, it's that low-end thump... RPMs so low you can count them on your fingers, coupled with torque. Combine that with the high-end "brrraaappp", and, yeah, iconic. It's an angry tractor. Love it.

    Great video! I really like your humble approach on motorcycling. What tires are you running on your KLR? They seem to handle great on all sorts of of terrain. Cheers!

    • @IslandADV
      @IslandADV  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks so much. That's a great compliment. For tires I run a Shinko 804 on the front and a Shinko 805 on the rear. They are my all time favorite.
