This is how I think the eva's power supply works:
The cable is most probably just powering the eva's armor which, in addition to being a constrainer, also works like a power armor. So in normal mode the eva is only running under the power armor like a marionette, while only in berserker mode the eva breaks through the constrain and run on its true power. That's why the pilot needs to be synced with the unit, which is to calm down the creature so it'll accept the control of the power armor and follow it, instead of resisting it going berserk, ignoring the control and acting on itself.

@@cluchgaming2659 That's also true. But unit 1 in berserk mode can already move without external power, and is also a lot more powerful, basically one-shotting the 14th angel, even before it consumes the s2 drive.

The armour isn’t powered or meant to give the Eva more power.
If anything, the armour actually keeps the Eva in check by acting as a restrain.
Correction at 4:50 . In EoE, Asuka had the same physical damage as the eva bc her sync rate was so abnormally high, not bc the eva got hit with the Lance

The power problem was due to the restraints. The restraints used power to keep their bond on the Eva but if the Eva loses its connection it can “wake up” thus negating the need for power, but loss of control
The Evangelions are clones of Adams seed, matured.
This is why at the second impact, we see Adam glowing white, looking exactly like an Evangelion.
Evangelion Unit 01 is not a direct clone of Lillith as Lillith does not take the same form as Adam.
Evangelion Unit 01 was built to resemble the Adam clones but used genetic material from Lillith.
Also, I suggest that this is why the Angels instinctively want to destroy Evangelions when they see them. Not just because they are standing in their way, but because the offspring of Adam are supposed to be completely unique and in no way similar to one another, yet the Evangelions essentially mimic Adam in appearance and with a similar signature.
All Evangelions are grown and remain inactive until they undergo a "contact experiment", where they are implanted with a soul.
For Eva 01 it was Yui Ikari and for Eva 02 it was Kyoko Soryu.
This means that Eva's will inherently have a connection with their children, hence the importance of Shinji and Asuka being pilots.
Unit 00 is never clearly explained as to whose soul is within it, but various hints imply that it is Rei 1 (the Rei that was strangled).
This also eludes to a possible reason as to why Unit 00 is prone to losing control.
This gets a bit technical...
Unit 00 is implanted with Rei Ayanami's soul, which is risky to say the least...
After Gendo Ikari lost Yui Ikari to Unit 01, Gendo attempted to "remake" her. This was done by creating Rei (Rei 1) and fusing her with the remains of Yui Ikari's soul, the parts of the soul that were able to be recovered from Unit 01. This was also the soul that was then implanted into Unit 00 after it had been fused with Rei 1. Unit 00 has been implanted with a soul that is incomplete... Fractured even.
After Rei 1 was strangled and killed, she was cloned (Rei 2), further diluting the soul that she originally had implanted into her.
This is potentially why Unit 00 attacks Rei 2 when it loses control in episode 5 and Gendo when it loses control in episode 14.
So all this above is pretty simple to understand once explained, however, when first watching the series as a young lad, I was confused as fuck haha.
This is what the rebuild movies are like for me now as they break a lot of the logic.
For example, in the rebuild we see Unit 05 piloted by Mari...
We have no backstory of Mari, but if we follow the lore of Neon Genesis, the assumption would be that Mari's mother's soul is contained within Unit 05...
I can accept this, but how is it that Mari can sync with Unit 02 well enough for combat?
Anyway, hope this little overload is interesting.
Rei Doesnt have a soul. Its explained that she is clone of Yui with Lilith’s soul as Kaworu has Adam’s soul. For some reason nerv and Seele were able to separate the souls from the angels and put in to humam bodies. Kaworu knows that which is probably why he calls the humans as Lilins because the humans on that earth settings came from Lilith. Also he recognizes Rei being like him.

@@AmOkada I think they managed to extract the soul from Adam/Lilith body thanks to the lance of Longinus.
My theory is that the Anti AT field is naturally created from the lance of Longinus, which explains why SEELE needs it soooo badly for the 3rd impact. With the lance, S2 engine the original body of Lilith, they can amplify the Anti AT field from the lance to affect the entire world, extracting souls from their body and turns all human into LCL.
Adam's and Lilith's bodies however, are made of particles-wave matter, which cannot be dissolved into LCL, therefore they can stay intact. Their souls however, got loosened from their bodies due the Anti AT field, are extracted and put into empty bodies of Rei and Kaworu in order that their powerful bodies won't provoke and create another impact at the wrong time.

In order to best understand the lore, avoid the rebuilds.
In answer to your question, watch the following.
Neon Genesis episodes 1-20 then episodes 22, 23, 25, and 26.
Episodes 21 and 24 are "Directors cuts" and get a bit weird. They are perfectly fine to watch if you want to, but they jump around in time a bit and can easily cause confusion. However, if you find you are following the story quite well and are able to keep up with all the abstract thoughts that hint at the lore, then, by all means, include 21 and 24 in your journey.
Once you have watched the episodes, then watch "End of Evangelion" which is the conclusion to the story.

i will never understand the actual logic of having pilot's feel full pain, i can understand feeling some pain, but if they are overwhelmed by the pain, they will become less effective, i really wanna talk to the interface design guys lol
It has to do with the whole metaphor for the show unit 1 was literally Shinjis mother, which is why it would go bezerk to save his life, also why the synch rate is so high, like really parents they can protect you but they can only save you from so much pain 🤷🏼♂️

it probably has something to do with the synchronization between the pilots and the unit. In order to maintain the synch rate needed to pilot an Eva effectively, the full nerve connection is needed

Eva wasn't created to be about robots it was created for people to think about life and live (congratulations)
In the minute 3:35 what you say is misleading. Evas are, as you said, constraint in their body suits and are also dormant and therefore to function as a robot with the inputs of the pilots, evas need electric energy. But, evas do not necessarily need them as any organic creature, they also produce their own bio energy, but evas can only function without electricity when they wake up from their dormant state and go berserk or reach God mode and are self aware as shown in several episodes.
Eva's were made from Lilith, which was clearly explained in the show, that is why they don't have the S2 engine which is the power of eternal life of the angels and are limited to 5 minutes then stop working like how a human will live for a limited time then die since all of Lilith's creations are bound to die eventually. Adam's children the angels are basically human souls inside super powerful bodies that have no natural shape, it's their instinct that causes their specific shapes when they awaken until then they look like giant human fetuses. Unit 01 eating the core from the 15th angel caused a problem, it was what in greek myth is called Apotheosis, or when a mortal steals the power of the gods... that is why there was such a big deal about it in the show... because now Unit - 01 can do everything the angels can do and operate forever like the Seed angels (Adam and Lilith) and can access the power to rewrite life(instrumentality) and time(OVA's explanation of the several time reboots caused by Shinji), except its mind is still locked and it depends on the will of the pilot. Technically Shinji could force his mother's soul from the the Unit and fuse himself to the Unit and became the unit himself, but he never actually does it, although he almost did it in the 3.0 OVA series. Angels are made from the nonsense solid light as they explained in the show but the Eva's are made of flesh and metal like humans since they are clones of Rei/Lilith's body but without a soul. All the angels are shapeshifters but the Eva 01 was still stuck to its original form even after gaining the S2 engine.
HOLY CRAP! The Mom's soul is required to power the Eva's organic body. Y'all! I just had the longest blank stare I've ever had thinking about what this means. So that's why the facade of the Marduke Institute chose these kids, because their mothers (I'm guessing part of Lilith's soul in the case of Rei) are inside the Eva LCL. This is why Rei and Shinji can pilot Eva units 0 and 1 interchangeably, because Rei shares part of Yui's soul too. This also means, either Seele killed Asuka's mother, or they knew she would un-alive herself eventually, so then her soul really IS inside Eva Unit 2, just like Asuka realizes in End of Evangelion. So then. . . what the heck happened to Toji's mom? Did I miss the fact that she was already dead?

With that being said I had to correct your pronunciation on the word primordial but I felt I had to. It’s not said Prime-OR- Deal. It’s pronounced Prime-Or-De-All. I know I'm late to this but if you're referring to jet alone, no jet alone is not an eve unit he is a fully mechanical mech rather than biomechanical like the eves, he was also developed by a separate organization/corpo who wanted to compete with the eves by trying to make theyr own Mecha without realizing that the eve Mecha are biomechanical because nerv kept the true nature of the eves a secret from the world, also nerv sabotage jet alone and made him go rogue themselves in order to get rid of the competition.
