Holy crap this channel rules. I have been DYING for something like this to exist since I started learning. One of the most challenging parts of learning Japanese, coming from an English speaker is SEEING the language. How to parse vocabulary, particles, vocabulary etc. While immersion is the most important part of learning any language, stuff like this goes a LONG way!
Yaaaay! Thank you so much for checking out the channel! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! :) That was the concept behind the channel actually! I wanted to find a way to help connect people more easily to Japanese media and help make the immersion/input easier/more enjoyable for learners! :)
@@GameGengo your channel and videos are the absolute top resource that helped me and pushed me to continue with my passion and love for Japanese. i always had problems with grammar and sometimes remembering new vocab, and i cannot take lessons now due to financial reasons, and ALL the channels i found, iam sure they are great teachers and made great effort as well, but they weren't suitable for the way i like to study, and how my brain delivers and comprehends information. you are the ONLY one that i could actually understand and comprehend from. you deserve all the support and appreciation. therefore, i promise that once i find a job and be in a better financial situation, i will pay you for this incredible effort, until then, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much, wishing you the best.
I wouldn't mind seeing some Animal Crossing: New Horizons! There would be some interesting language around casually hanging out with friends, relaxation, personal challenges, banking, debt, and payments, and some common activity / recreational language.

Having studied Japanese on and off over the years and now finally attempting a deep dive. Your videos are a breath of fresh air between the monotonous text books and audio programs. I’m your newest subscriber 😉 keep it up!

It’s taken me a while to get around to watching this video, but - just like the rest of this channel - it. is. FANTASTIC. Thanks so much for all your hard work. This really is one of the best - if not THE best - Japanese-learning channels out there. ✨🤩
ご苦労様でした。 Your explanations and breakdowns are not only educational but also entertaining. I love that you didn't use any romaji at all. I find it distracting and much harder to read than hiragana. I look forward to your next video regardless of what gets chosen. じゃあ、またね!
Absolutely amazing the amount of work that went into this! I really appreciate you breaking down the grammar points with multiple meanings like with the ちゃう form. お疲れさまでした!
This is amazing ~ the only thing I would humbly suggest is that you played the short dialogue from the game again AFTER the breakdown so that we listen to it with full understanding. I know it would add some time but the benefits would be immense ❤
this is so cool! thanks so much for your hard work! i really like the pacing of this video~ im not sure which games id like to see yet, i really like everything you put out so far. i think anything from the Mother series would be fun though. also, as others have mentioned, Animal Crossing would be interesting because of how "normal" it can be. one thing i will add about AC is that the newer games have waaay less dialogue than the older. New Horizons has kanji and furigana which is cool but honestly the Gamecube versions have waaaaay better/more interesting dialogue!
Great video and video series! Loving all the break downs, which help me a lot as an intermediate, who struggles with understanding whole sentences. One tiny thing I noticed: 1:05:16 - not sure why you said にらむ when it's both said and written as 恨む(うらむ). Is this another reading I'm unfamiliar with? I sadly couldn't find anything about that. Anyway, thanks again for the great content!
what i've noticed is that the way of writing some words/phrases is... rather weird, at least to me (a beginner in learning japanese, though i've been immersing myself in japanese media for over 10 years already and can understand some basic conversations). for example, there's ハズ written in katakana (25:03). for what i've seen, it's usually written using hiragana, and the sudden katakana here seems kinda unusual. is it some kind of futaba's thing or what lol? i know that some "slang"-ish words such as マジ or クソ (which are also mentioned in this video) can be written using katakana, but ハズ? especially considering the fact that it doesn't seem to be "slang"-ish. but what really threw me off was 何処 (どこ; 31:46) written using kanji. i've never seen it written other way than in hiragana. it just seems so weird that in one text box you have something that you assume should be written using hiragana but is in katakana and then a few text boxes later you see one of the first words someone learns in japanese, which i personally have always seen written using hiragana, now in kanji. then it's こと (49:29) written in hiragana, while at the beginning of the video it's written twice as kanji (事; 9:55, 10:40). i'm starting to think that it's really just futaba's thing lol. or maybe by that, the game tries to kind of "translate" the character's personality and how they speak into written form? as in morgana, who earlier used kanji 事, is more "formal" and "serious", while futaba still being a teen, and a nerd on top of that, uses more "slang"-ish (ハズ) and less serious (こと) way of speaking? but then there's kasumi who also uses こと (53:17) but otherwise uses a very polite and formal way of speaking. i'm at loss right now to be honest, haha. and then kasumi uses ください (54:34) when earlier she used 下さい (50:41). what actually made my head hurt was that at 57:08, it sounds like futaba talking (though i can be wrong). here, she says はず instead of previous ハズ, and then 事 instead of previous こと. it really looks like there's no one rule after all, haha. as i said, i'm just a beginner and by no means i feel knowledgeable enough to say if it makes sense or not (or if it's wrong to say it that way), but it just seems counterintuitive to me and i wanted to share my ramblings lol. also i love how polite kasumi is, makes me understand almost everything she says in terms of grammar as this is what i've already learned lol anyway, there's no words to describe how helpful and amazing this video is! thank you so much for making it!
could you speak the Japanese lines slower & repeat them slowly several times? I find myself having to constantly rewind & replay when you say the Japanese to learn, but it's often so fast, that I don't catch it all or all the time. not to be negative. I really appreciate what this video series is trying to do by understanding Japanese & teaching Japanese through lovable Japanese video games like Persona 5. I'm very interested to learn. Thanks for your work.
Found your videos recently and they are so good! I struggle with other learning but breaking it down in games is a really cool idea. Also I’m playing through this currently so it’s interesting to watch!
Thank you for such incredible videos and your hard work, it’s helping me a lot with preparing for N4. @@GameGengo Amazing!! Thank you so much for your reply and pointing that out, I had not checked the newer episodes yet but will do it soon :). It will be super helpful! Thanks again!!
I really like your content, it's very useful and well-edited. There's a detail that I didn't like, it's the new drop shadow effect on your cam. It's not an aesthetic issue, rather it's actually irritating because of perceptive reasons (I swear, I don't have OCPD or something :). I think it's the contrast between the artificial shadow and the real shadow on your chair. It could work if there was no real shadow to compare with and if the light was coming equally harshly from the correct direction as the shadow suggests. As it is it's a bit like looking at one of these optical illusions at the very moment you see through them because your perspective changes. But maybe that's just me. Otherwise, great job as always.
I think that the Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne Remaster would be neat to have covered as well! A lot of terms having to do with god and mythological figures!

17:00 - My understanding is that this basically means like.. 'short-ranged weapon' or like 'close quaters weapon' as opposed to being 'the weapon you have close at hand'. In contrast you can have 'long range weapons' like bows and guns, which in this game is 遠隔武器. Both the gun and the sword are weapons you have 'close at hand', but one is for close proximity attacks and one is for far proximity attacks.
@@GameGengo I’m glad to hear! I learned so much Japanese from Xenoblade, because the characters always repeat the same dialogues before, during and after the battles. It also did wonders to my katakana comprehension skills because all of their moves are said in katakana!
17:00 i would interpret that more as "short-range weapon" than "weapon that is nearby"...unless the same text is used for when you use long-range weapons...?
I forever kick myself for not finishing this game. After like 90 hrs I took a break and just didnt come back to it. I looked up a bit of the ending and know I was just a hour or two away from it too probably lol.
My favorite mobile game was Monster strike. Years ago they discontinued the English version. Really want to play it again but now it's all in Japanese.
Corrections: The reading for 遣る is やる not やるる. And 恨む is うらむ and not にらむ.
And the kanji for reinforcement?

what i've noticed is that the way of writing some words/phrases is... rather weird, at least to me (a beginner in learning japanese, though i've been immersing myself in japanese media for over 10 years already and can understand some basic conversations).
for example, there's ハズ written in katakana (25:03). for what i've seen, it's usually written using hiragana, and the sudden katakana here seems kinda unusual. is it some kind of futaba's thing or what lol? i know that some "slang"-ish words such as マジ or クソ (which are also mentioned in this video) can be written using katakana, but ハズ? especially considering the fact that it doesn't seem to be "slang"-ish.
but what really threw me off was 何処 (どこ; 31:46) written using kanji. i've never seen it written other way than in hiragana. it just seems so weird that in one text box you have something that you assume should be written using hiragana but is in katakana and then a few text boxes later you see one of the first words someone learns in japanese, which i personally have always seen written using hiragana, now in kanji.
then it's こと (49:29) written in hiragana, while at the beginning of the video it's written twice as kanji (事; 9:55, 10:40). i'm starting to think that it's really just futaba's thing lol. or maybe by that, the game tries to kind of "translate" the character's personality and how they speak into written form? as in morgana, who earlier used kanji 事, is more "formal" and "serious", while futaba still being a teen, and a nerd on top of that, uses more "slang"-ish (ハズ) and less serious (こと) way of speaking? but then there's kasumi who also uses こと (53:17) but otherwise uses a very polite and formal way of speaking. i'm at loss right now to be honest, haha.
and then kasumi uses ください (54:34) when earlier she used 下さい (50:41).
what actually made my head hurt was that at 57:08, it sounds like futaba talking (though i can be wrong). here, she says はず instead of previous ハズ, and then 事 instead of previous こと. it really looks like there's no one rule after all, haha.
as i said, i'm just a beginner and by no means i feel knowledgeable enough to say if it makes sense or not (or if it's wrong to say it that way), but it just seems counterintuitive to me and i wanted to share my ramblings lol.
also i love how polite kasumi is, makes me understand almost everything she says in terms of grammar as this is what i've already learned lol
anyway, there's no words to describe how helpful and amazing this video is! thank you so much for making it!

@@GameGengo I’m glad to hear!
I learned so much Japanese from Xenoblade, because the characters always repeat the same dialogues before, during and after the battles.
It also did wonders to my katakana comprehension skills because all of their moves are said in katakana!
You should be more popular, so many students of Japanese around and this is do much fun!
17:00 i would interpret that more as "short-range weapon" than "weapon that is nearby"...unless the same text is used for when you use long-range weapons...?
would love a kingdom hearts video! (Sorry if this has been suggest before!)
this is good work
I love this bro
Nice video. I was playing tons of Japanese only games on vita. Need to study a ton. A question. 借りを作ったままの自分とは, what is the の doing here? Thanks.

I forever kick myself for not finishing this game. After like 90 hrs I took a break and just didnt come back to it. I looked up a bit of the ending and know I was just a hour or two away from it too probably lol.
マットくん素敵な服ですね!
How about,
"Game Grotto Glossary?"
for the name of the new series?
Ni No Kuni (from start to end) would be really amazing!
My favorite mobile game was Monster strike. Years ago they discontinued the English version. Really want to play it again but now it's all in Japanese.
Does anyone know if you can change the language in Japanese in case you buy the English copy?
