Such a shame that those rails can't be used once again for a local transit loop. I know that's a pipe dream...but what a wonderful ride that would be. BTW.....I felt I was on "hold" for 5:20 with that UA-cam "canned" music. Thanks for this..I'm sure I passed through that area on a train as a kid.
I would argue it is already a hiking trail, (As well as cycling/running/etc.) I've been riding/hiking it regularly since 2013. A trail runner and gravel rider are even in your video. I would welcome minor improvement to the area, but a full on paving/hazmat reconditioning would spoil some of the current charm. If they do remodel this, a la The Tracks in Brea, I hope they only make improvements/sanitize one side of it. I like your general idea though. I've defintely a fan of Rails-to-Trails type efforts like Juanita Cooke and The Tracks, as well as aqueduct easement trails like SART, SGRT, Santiago Creek & Coyote Creek. There are other little snippets around LA and OC like The Esplanade in Orange, Creek PArk trails in La Mirada, JOST in Irvine, a host of named and unnamed horse trails in Yorba Linda and Anaheim, etc. A clever rider/hiker/trailrunner can link together some interesting routes, (Or interesting commutes.) South county seems to have had them in mind from the start, but it'd be nice if unused rail corridors and drainage areas in North county weren't the sole domain of gov/corp types and the homeless.
Great place for some railcart riding.

Those tracks ran right behind my house growing up.
