This song just makes me feel so calm and at peace, as if I AM that baby seal being lulled to sleep in my sandy bed. Softly being assured that no harm shall befall me as a sleep. This song is just so graceful and peaceful. I love it.
Our choir had three deaths of parents over the course of a short period of time in highschool. We ended up dedicating this song to them and the children who continued to sing. Their kids are the most inspirational people I've ever met. My peers, my friends, my family. I hope this song brings them some comfort.
This piece is so beautiful, our school band is gonna play an orchestrated version of it, written for band, but just listening to the choirs part and the piano, I knew it was going to be great and beautiful, good job guys, I love it =) it warmed my heart! ^^
I really wasn't sure in choir class if I liked this song, because we learned it in sectionals and the alto part doesn't sound that good on its own. But after hearing this, I can't wait to put it together :)
My chior teaccher knows Eric Whitacer in person.....it's AWESOME!!!!!!!! I'm pretty sure he's one of the judges for region chior this year :3 im trying out. This is one of the songs we have to hear...:D it's SOOOOOOO PRETTYYYYYY~~!!!!!!!!!
My chorus preformed the SSA version with Eric Whitacre last year. You guys sounded great. I like it with the guys (since I preformed with all girls lol)
Wauw, I'm learning this song in the choir of my school and I really like it ! so pretty :) although the alto part you cannot really hear well i think and thats the part i need to do.. anyways, ill sing a bit louder aha :D
Hah, DHS CC is learning this at the moment. Listening to this gives me some hope for the bass section. Also, with all of the voice-part debate, I'm gonna say B1/Baritone just to be different. Plus, I'm one, and an epic one at that.
Pembina Trails Voices, a divisional choir I'm part of, is doing the SSA version of this. It's really pretty, though I prefer the SATB version, as the lower voices add a depth that only they can.
the choir im in is doing this song its super pretty sounding!! im in the womens choir so it sounds a little differnet than with guys in it its really hard though were only in the middle of it but yeah
The story behind this song makes me laugh. Whitacre gave this to Disney for a movie and they never called him back. Finally he called and they were like "Ummm... we decided to do Kung Fu Panda instead."
it was. the person wrote this for an animation but when the animation wasn't made he made it into a choir song and sold it on request of one group. the movie replacing it was kung fu panda
@Megzy7 That's so interesting because my choir has the opposite problem; our altos overpower the sopranos. I think this song is really hard to acheive perfect balance on.
I don't know if it's the music and chordal structure or the visual I get in my head, but every time I hear this or accompany it, I tear up. So moving.
when i first heard this song in chorus, i felt my eyes getting teary. good job to the singers. the did phenomenal.
This song just makes me feel so calm and at peace, as if I AM that baby seal being lulled to sleep in my sandy bed. Softly being assured that no harm shall befall me as a sleep. This song is just so graceful and peaceful. I love it.

I adore this song. It's so simple and beautiful. the alto part is so pretty. =]
I am proud to say that my high school is playing this at the 2010 Midwest clinic. Can not wait!
This definitely lulled me gently and gracefully to sleep...if you count crying myself to sleep out of sheer beauty...
This is absolutely beautiful. The basses in this are phenomenal.

Our choir had three deaths of parents over the course of a short period of time in highschool. We ended up dedicating this song to them and the children who continued to sing. Their kids are the most inspirational people I've ever met. My peers, my friends, my family. I hope this song brings them some comfort.

I like that you can actually hear the alto part in this, unlike in some other versions where that part is largely lost!

My chorus preformed the SSA version with Eric Whitacre last year.
You guys sounded great. I like it with the guys (since I preformed with all girls lol)

I would love to hear a version of this song with at least a 720p video.
I had 2 sing this song in ma choir and its a hard song to learn
Wauw, I'm learning this song in the choir of my school and I really like it ! so pretty :) although the alto part you cannot really hear well i think and thats the part i need to do.. anyways, ill sing a bit louder aha :D
Ten years since you made that comment, how did it go and what are you doing now?????
the arrangement of this for band is almost as beautiful as the choral version
SING IT ALTOS!
TOOOOO FASSSST
singing this in choir :)
@swisscheesepotatochi the bass 2 line to this is beautiful
Hah, DHS CC is learning this at the moment. Listening to this gives me some hope for the bass section.
Also, with all of the voice-part debate, I'm gonna say B1/Baritone just to be different. Plus, I'm one, and an epic one at that.
@4ivIV agreed, the bass part just gives this song the "warmth"
@Widgeripoo yes, you are correct.
Yes it involved the growth of a seal, eventually like rising up and becoming the "Head Seal". I'm not kidding, somewhere around those lines.
That's the opposite of what mine told us. She told us to sing it soft yet powerful enough to be heard.
Agreed.
im playing this in marching band
Pembina Trails Voices, a divisional choir I'm part of, is doing the SSA version of this. It's really pretty, though I prefer the SATB version, as the lower voices add a depth that only they can.
@Widgeripoo yes that is true
Nice piano at this church, sweetly played by Skyler.
Fuck such a beautiful song
@Widgeripoo You are correct :)
Stunnung
i NEED to learn this on piano sooooo bad. Can someone please send me a link or something to the music for this?? Please, I'll do ANYTHING
@4ivIV heys, i went for choral fest too =)
@jrmdawg lol i read that on the inside cover of the piece.
agreed
@CerLikeWoahh24 same here! goodluck!
the choir im in is doing this song its super pretty sounding!!
im in the womens choir so it sounds a little differnet than with guys in it
its really hard though were only in the middle of it but yeah
If you could record thing on youtube and post it I would sing it for you.....but it's really pretty!!
@sHeLbZtheCLOGGER: Actually, both first and second sopranos are equal in this piece.
@jrmdawg so i can only assume that the company was dreamworks, not disney.
@mradaChris It makes me cry too lol
@MrHomerun2325 :o woah, that's a super smart comment.
@steelvenom2003 true
@Megzy7 That's so interesting because my choir has the opposite problem; our altos overpower the sopranos. I think this song is really hard to acheive perfect balance on.

Warranty is void if seal is broken !!!

@doomboa95 Same chord progression as edward scissorhands.
