If you watched this video and thought, "Hey, maybe I would like to be a management consultant but I didn't get a business degree from a prestigious school", I have some great news for you. Those degrees are wonderful but I have been in consulting for quite some time now and consultants come from all sorts of backgrounds! One of the consultants on the team that I manage has a degree in biology from Kansas State. I have worked with people with degrees in psychology, horticulture, history - just about anything from any school. The consulting firms do have dedicated recruiters for certain schools and certain degrees but that does not stop YOU from reaching out to the company and applying! It doesn't matter if you went to an Ivy League and got a business degree or if you went to college online (maybe not University of Phoenix or Kaplan - those are just diploma mills but so long as it was a "real" school), if you want to be a consultant, just make sure that you sell yourself on your resume! (The MD on my project dropped out of community college after one year and never even finished a degree!) The bottom line is that anybody with the desire can do this. It doesn't take a special degree. If you want to be a consultant, you surely can.

    1. You mentioned that you will do strategy. So, you joined MBB?
    2. Did you know any Excel prior to joining the company?
Also, very looking forward to the videos about the preparation for the consulting. How the idea came up to your mind to join there? How did you prepare for various stages of the interview (If you joined McKinsey, the video about new digital assessment can be very useful, in UA-cam there is literally no good video about that).

It's more if you have a problem solving mentality and work well in teams :) And absolutely-- a ton of top business execs started as consultants. My original plan was to keep up with reselling in NY, but I've come to realize how important it is to be consistent while reselling (i.e listing new items every day, being active on the apps, sharing my closet, etc) so I'll have to see whether that will be realistic for me or not. Either way, I will DEFINITELY be checking out the thrifting scene in NY!!! Whether it's for reselling or for my own personal closet 😎 And will def make some videos on that hehe. It's very interesting you get into a top tier strategy consulting firm without any consulting internships. I guess that's what Wharton does to a CV, but mindblowing nevertheless. In Germany, you'd need at least an internship at a similar firm to even get into the pool of candidates, they want their consultants to have experience before sending their CV to customers and request large sums for their hours.

    Hey Taylor,
I don't even know if you will read this, but I have been wondering how the things mentioned in this video turned out to work the way there supposed to for you. Examples: Get a good feeling for several industries & then deciding which one to focus on, Gaining a lot of experience and insights in many possible opportunities ("extra years of learning") etc.
I don't know if you are planning on a video addressing these kind of thoughts, but I thought it would be a nice incentive as I just stumbled across this video (Still catching up with all the old videos :D ).

I like how you avoided technical terms and simplified the stuff so common folk would understand.
