      @@cooking-the-world I live in the US but I'm of German ancestry. I stopped eating meat almost 10 years ago, so a lot of the German foods I grew up eating have been missing from my diet for quite a while. It's nice to see vegetarian dishes with a German flair!
      On an unrelated note, I seem to detect just a hint of Australian accent in your English. Am I imagining this or did you learn English from the Aussies?

    There's an eastern European vegetarian dish I love called Halushki. It's egg noodles, cabbage and onions fried together in butter. Sometimes I add sauerkraut to it also.

    New video and instantly Excited what you will pick up to show as VEgeterian german dishes :D Some Sourcreams are contain
    gelatin they are non vegetarian then but thats mostly the cheap ones who get stretched with water. Another tip to clean a meatgrinder is putting an Onion thrue it as the last thing then you can rinse it better. Would put some lemon peel into the green sauce or freeze the peel in a container :) (I love to save every little bit from everything^^) Vegetable schnitzel is also nice made with "Kohlrabi"(cabbage turnip) or Beetroot you could even use marinated Tofu or Smoked Tofu. Potatos with Quark was one of my favorits i ate it 3-5 times a week nowdays i make it with coconut Joghurt. Linseed Oil should be eaten more often its so good for omega 3 and 6 but should never be heated. Try some Gorgonzola(soft) in the "Rahmspinat" its a little thing but makes a huge diference in taste. To nmake "Senfeier" a Bit more moddern whisk in 2 Eggyolks at the end into the Sauce and use some Mustard grain to finish it and at the end a bit of Cayenne. Another Tip for the Bechamel to make it a bit lighter use the cooking water from the vegetable with some veggie Broth in it. Put the watery stuff frtom the cucumber thrue a siff and then in your water :). GErman Butter isnt VEgetarian it contains up to 2% of animal fats even Magerin can contain it so make sure to buy one with a vegetarin logo on it if you vegetarian. Try to puz White Asparagus(can be from the glas) on Pizza with some hollondaise instead of tomato sauce and some mild chees like Gouda but very little becuase of the Hollondaise you dont want it to fatty and overcome the Asparagus with bold Flavours. Cheeses are should be withaut Animal Rennit or in GErman "LAB" to be Vegetarian. My grandma would hunt me down if i hade made the Spätzle with a doughmachineXD it was only made by Hand and only with the HAnd and only scraped by hand from a woodenboardXDXD.

      Hey David, sorry for late response. My favorite way is for sure Schmorgurken, we have it at least once or twice a month in the summer time. Other then this I love Senfgurken in my potato salad. As for sandwich I don’t know any German cucumber sandwiches, but I Googled it and found out that in Spreewald (where the best pickled cucumbers come from) they bake Roggenmischbrot with pickled cucumbers. Imagine this with cheese or ham or both 😉 what cucumber sandwiches do you know?

    Spinach and asparagus, these are the dishes that I can easily enjoy without meat.
    A few potatoes on the side are absolutely enough for my opinion.
    Also for dishes with broccoli and cauliflower meat is not really necessary, can just be an option.

    Morning Marta, I've given up on the YT notification bell, it obviously doesn't like me. I know most of those dishes but not specifically as vegetarian more what my Oma cooked on days we couldn't afford meat or it wasn't available after the war. Many of them were prepared from foods she'd preserved in jars. That last dish sounds rather like something we make sort of a fried macaroni cheese. I don't like kummel either, must be the English half of me 😉

      I am sorry to hear about the notification bell. I usually post on Sundays, if not there will be a message from me on the community tab:) I am glad that you could recognize some of those dishes! Sometimes unwound love to teleport myself for a week 100 years ago to check the food people ate 😛

      @@cooking-the-world Hey I'm not that old Marta, I'm talking 60-65 years ago 🤣 though I suspect what my Oma and UhrOma cooked probably wasn't much different than what their Oma's cooked. I honestly think food back then tasted far better than now Marta, maybe because it was fresh and organic, not processed or maybe it was just young taste buds.

    • @cooking-the-world
      @cooking-the-world  Рік тому

      It is, at least in Europe. Vegetarians are decided into 3 different groups. One of them eats egg. If you are searching for dishes without animal products I would advice to search for vegan food, in this case you are always sure that you don't have egg or diary products included in ingredients list.

The group that doesn’t eat eggs is called lacto-vegetarian. If I make a video about vegetarian dishes I try to include dishes for everyone. I am aware that there are countries, like India, that the majority of vegetarians is lacto, but that’s not the case everywhere else so please keep open mind.
