  • Bankim Chandra Chatterjee wrote the national song Vande Mataram. It is a poem written in Sanskrit by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in his Bengali novel Anandamath. It later was made the National Song of our country.
    On 24 January 1950, the Constituent Assembly of India has adopted “Vande Mataram” as a national song. On the occasion, the first President of India, Rajendra Prasad stated that the song should be honoured equally with the national anthem of India, “Jana Gana Mana”.
    The National Anthem of India is the “Jana Gana Mana” composed by Rabindranath Tagore in 1911. The National Song is “Vande Mataram” composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the 1870s. As per Article 51A of the Constitution of India, honouring the National anthem is one of the fundamental duties of a citizen of India.
