I've always really liked this song, mostly for the chord progressions. Now that I know the backstory, this song is even heavier. His GF was trash. I understand why he would compose the lyrics to be from her attitude toward him. It also makes sense - known this now - that Ken would pick this as his favorite song. Yes, it's a bop. Always has been. But now if you see it from how Ken feels regarding how Barbie treated him, it adds to the story. I can understand why they picked this song. Ken has been treated as a 2nd class citizen and then he discovers a world where his voice matters. Then he goes home and tries to liberate other the other Kens. That kind of makes him the hero. It's a confusing movie.
Oddly enough as it is..this was me and my Dads song...we used to sing this on karaoke and split the male and female parts 😂😢 He passed away in 2018 at 38.. I used to listen to this and just cry. Now, I sing it and just remember all our memories and how we'd jam hardcore to this.. and now its one of the songs I play to put me in a better mood..❤

I take the song as being a bully and also the effects of loneliness that occurs from being utterly alone and bullied too. Our social status of family or marriage or divorce or dating or with friends and siblings is irrelevant - when one is in a room full of people and still feels totally alone! The effects of being pushed around and the doornat for others - when no one dares come to you to check on you or be there for you or ask - what can I do for you versus - you always being their go too. I was thinking what a great drinking song! Just to get passed out on alone. If - only I drank now. Too old now and my body rejected all alcohol years ago. Isn't worth the hangover and belly problems. Then I thought - a rolled smoke would be good - but I don't even do that now. As my fav smoke partner and best friend walked away a long time ago... And then I thought - I just need louder speakers. But that won't work with my factory stereo. SSSOOO - then I just start laughing 😂😂 Put my hand out of the car window to enjoy the warm night air and kept on singing to the top of my lungs with this song on repeat. To be a bully or to allow others to bully you - don't matter. Because in the end - lonliness is all that one has to hold onto and to find a great song to hug and understand you- when no one truly gets this. Guess I am different and even in loneliness of my life - contentment with myself is all I have and ever did.
