I've watched quite a few of your videos, and can appreciate why you do what you do now! You're an inspiration to the rest of us, and I appreciate your commitment to Christ! Love your videos and may God bless!
Great tips Matt. Here in NZ if the bottom plates have been left to soak up moisture during winter when humidity levels are so high. It can take weeks to get them back down to acceptable levels again. Also when using the short prong moisture meters. The needless need to reach the middle third of the timber for an accurate reading. So it is important to test timber through the face rather than the edge and get those pins right in.
One important aspect not covered - joints, especially those between the sill plate and the subfloor. Water is trapped extensively in these areas and must be a focused point for drying since they are inaccessable by air or any means of assessment. Heat (not too much) and time are your friends prior to finishing.
Thank you Matt Risinger for the scripture and asking for prayers for the people who went through the Hurricane. As someone who had to completely remodel our house after the 2004 trio we were hit with in Port St. Lucie FL we know full well the heartache and long process to rebuild. We sustained $275,000.00 worth of damage and it took 22 months to complete due to materials and labor shortages. Unless you have lived it you can’t fathom how hard it is. We spent 22 months as Missionaries going to New Orleans after Katrina donating our time and labor to help them. We are no longer physically able to do so due to age and injuries but please know you are all in our hearts and prayers even now. Thank you for being willing to share your knowledge with others. I’ve been building for well over 40 years and you still teach me things which I love.
Just now watching this video. My dad and I are building my house debt free, so things aren't moving as fast as a professional builder by no means. We've had some rain on and off and I've been worried about my framework. I'm so glad to hear you quoting that scripture at the end, Matt. Puts things into perspective for sure! Thank you so much for having the courage to speak truth, even when you know not everyone who watches this will agree!
Watching your video… trying to recover from Hurricane Ida. I really needed that verse at the end. Thank you!
I’ve watched a ton of your helpful videos. This is the first time I’ve seen a scripture quote. It was a pleasant surprise. I appreciate that.
Matt, you have great videos. An informed consumer is a happy consumer.
HUGE props for including the scripture, Matt. Love watching your stuff and to include such an important spiritual reminder . . . awesome.
+Bruce Fullwood thanks Bruce!
This is our process on every project. We hire this out during the winter. Great scripture verse, one of my go to's
Advantech is the best. It is worth every penny. It puts normal OSB to shame.
Wish I had bought that but didn’t know so trying to get my new addition osb protected till I can get walls and roof done 🥴 only get 4 days a month home yeah it’s a very slow process but eventually it will be done
The more I follow this cat, the more I like him. If I am ever fortunate enough to win the lotto or have an Uncle I don't know about leave me a big sack of coins, I would love to work with Matt and have him build me a home and UA-cam the entire build as a show. Dare to dream...
Just when I thought you couldnt get any more awesome, you drop some scripture at the end. Every amazing house you build is done properly and for the glory of God. Thank you
What's sad is that here in Canada, many home center lumber yards are outdoor, so those nicely kiln dried lumber are again soaked in rain water. Some of them wrap the piles with plastic, but hey, once you open the plastic, the lumber are either soaking wet or moist, no where near dry. I don't know about in the US, but I think it's time to pay attention to how they store the lumber. It's extra effort to dry the framing, not to mention when some studs dry, they twist, which adds even more time to plan it down before finishing with drywall.
I’ve really enjoyed your videos as I’ve been building my new house... now I’m even more impressed! Thanks for sharing that verse brother! Good stuff!
Matt, thank you so much for sharing. I work in the Kingwood area at a church that was literally just a few blocks away from the rising waters. Our community is seeing so many emotions, but the thing sticking out to me is watching people help who have been flooded themselves. These guys are so determined to help over here! Thanks again for sharing, it was a welcomed suprise. I closed the video early but heard you sharing scripture right before it closed and opened it back up to see what you were sharing!
Thank you Matt for introducing a prayer and most importantly… Our heavenly father thanks you… “By their fruit, you will know them”💕💕💕
Wow, Impacted me scripture wise! Our home flooded during harvey and we were blessed with the opportunity to build. we are at the framing stage and it's about to pour so perfect timing.
Matt! I do not have the vocabulary to express how I applaud you commitment. Many Christians still do not accept the courage to simply stand by faith and express themselves without attempting to make a point. A life lived as directed. Well done sir!
And as always, great information! Really enjoy the blog. I have enjoyed watching it evolve. Better every week!
You need a penetrating moisture meter to check the wood, you're going to ruin some framing if you check it with a pin meter and then cover it
Thanks so much for the tips and I love that you ended the clip with scripture. Thanks so much for sharing.
Local code in wa requires testing unit before next stage. Helps to take old furnace with dehumidifier as temp hookup that is on wheels . your hvac guy can build out of gas furnace and propane tank and temp power. Our area 100 inches rain and high humidity. Talk about impact floor heating. Systems. Final issue pressure valves to protect from 2 am city water system blow out angle stops when city pumps turn on a 1/4 mile away at 2 am
Customer had to replace all marble bathroom. From blown washer valve witm no floor drain in bath or laundry room.
Hi Matt. My house was rained on with osb flooring 19 days out of 31 in May and few days in June, I see osb changed its color to dark wet, in some places I see green mold, but builder says it will dry and will be ok. How ok it is in your view, you are ultimate authority for me in anything related to construction of homes. Thanks a lot in advance! Moisture reading in some places still show above 15% and sometimes even above 20% with some mildew and green mold traces still present, not increasing though. The lumber on the other had is fine, dried pretty much to acceptable level, even though some changed color to dark, probably also mildew...
Really appreciate this! We are building our Home and it is halfway done framing, we are getting the side effects from the hurricane here in Ohio now
Thanks Matt! Down here in Houston. I appreciate the knowledge you share and your videos have been very helpful
to ease my mind instead of thinking about this flood. Thanks!
+Bluestar 2007 stay tuned... another video posts today on that topic!
As already mentioned before. There are these things called "Wet & Dry Vacuums". I suggest to get one and use it as needed.
Ive always wondered why why why WHY don't builders tarp their buildings so no water gets in? I see all these butt naked buildings going up getting rained on. Then they carpet everything and i come in to do a flooring job but i gotta sand down all the damn floor joints because they got soaked during the build process.
When did you hit a milly young pimp? Congrats bro you’ve been crushing.
Such wonderful info on your channel. Thank you for sharing your faith and info Mr Risinger. Awesome to see someone proactive when it comes to these smaller details. I will use it with my customers for sure.
Really enjoy your posts, packed with a lot of dense information.
Great tips, I've seen way too many homes get insulation with moisture content still too high, and causes mold and mildew down the road. Appreciate you sharing that at the end as well.
Bible verse at the end got my sub great videos!
This is a very helpful video and thanks for sharing the word of God!
God bless Matt.
Thanks for this video and I needed that scripture today more than you will ever know.
Hello Matt, thank you soooo much for this Video (Perfect timing) Our news house is in the framing stage. Our concern is the OSD in the secon floor and some walls. We are heading to the building office to do some questions regarding this matter. Any advice on OSD? moisture meter? Should we ask to be replace? Thanks for your prayer!!!
If it looks like a one off event - hiring a water vacuum (along with industrial fan and gas heater blowers) also help.....
I know you focus on contractors, but you should put one together real quick to tell people what to tear out of their house after the flood. I helped with Sandy Clean up in 2012 and there was no good guidance on how much tearing out needed to be be done on a home.
Matt...great video. I do construction consulting for a lot of builders/superintendents here in the Houston area and i will be sharing this video
+Roy Mandell Roy, stay tuned… Another video today will talk about flood remediation, and that will be the one to share with your Houston neighbors
Awesome!! I will be listening for the notification sound
+Roy Mandell here you go. ua-cam.com/video/XWCHfyp4bhE/v-deo.html
Thanks Matt.
Will my 2x4s grow branches?
Behind you Matt were some framed archways....a feature that whilst timeless, shows how with modern techniques and materials can evolve...
Any chance in a future vid of showing how those talented carpenters put those arches up? Particularly curious as to how one face of the osb is joined to the other face....doesn't look like std 4x2 blocking....
Fingers crossed for a fast recovery to those affected by Harvey.
TIA.
Matt, I knew there was something different and unique about you, and now I know why! Thanks for sharing the scripture and by extension your faith.
That's the part that sucked.d is when he started preaching selling tickets to heaven for himself. He must have done something he was feeling guilty about and had to relieve himself of guilt
I’m a subscriber of the show Matt. Love the content. My wife and I are building a home as we speak. We’ve had a couple of rounds of snow on the home this far. Unfortunately we don’t have a roof on yet. I’ve noticed some of the 2 x 4 studs are getting some twist in them. Will those straighten back out as the home dries out or do you typically block it at the bottom plate or something to straighten the stud back out? Thanks advance for any advice you may be able to share!
Thank you for this helpful video. I live in Florida and just bought a house under construction. The framing lumber has been sitting on site over a month and has been rained on daily for the last month. I talked with the builder, he said it’s okay, he does this all the time. When I mentioned about moisture test, he said it’s not reliable. When I stopped by the construction site today, some of the frame has already changed shape and bent. I’m a first time home buyer. What should I do in this case? Any inputs are greatly appreciated.
Amen
Amen Matt!
Bless you matt and your continued success, no doubt inspired by God!
amen!
Hard to believe it's been 2 years since Harvey...
Hey Matt, like the UA-cam post and I have learned a lot.
One question on this; when testing the sill plates on a slab. Would the treated lumber cause an erroneous reading?
Sweet ending with a word from the Lord God Almighty! God Bless you and your company 100 fold!
Thanks Brother! I’ll always take that blessing!
Great tips!
Hello I have floors with plywood out when it rained and the frame is without walls and without the roof will that damage the plywood.its a Wednesday and cold the contractors suppose to be coming to finish Saturday
it looked like the pins weren't poked into the wood that was part of the frame of the house vs the wood block you were holding in your hand. please clarify...
I'm not religious but it warms my heart seeing it included it shows solidarity with those affected.
What if there has been 2-3" of standing water in a basement for 5+ days and no sump pump running? After this long, can I be risking structural damage, mold growth, basement framing 2x4s ruined, etc? Production builder won't get the water out.
Good tips.
Amen brother!
He relieved his elf of guilt for something he did so he can do it again. Thinking it will get him to a so called heaven. If there is such a place
If OSB gets wet- forget it. Roofers love the stuff because it's cheap and strong. But when it gets wet it's completely ruined. I think it's going to create some real nightmares in the future
Amen brother. Keep up the good work.
Good verse!
How long can a house thats framed last before major damage.... im building my own house its been about 3 months i have another 2 before im finished since im paying out my pocket..its taking longer
Hi Matt I am doing a 16x16 addition about to put the plywood down what is the best way to protect my plywood? Being a trucker I can’t get walls up till next time I come home so need to cover this osb with a sealant or paint? But don’t want to buy the wrong one please help with your experience
If you have installed some sort of foam or rubber sill sealer under the bottom plates, does this prevent those bottom plates from drying?
Just how much rain and exposure can the advantech take?
My house still isn’t dried in yet and since all the sub flooring has gone in (main and 2 level) we have have SEVERAL soaking rains with more and more expected. So no idea when it will actually get dried in.
It looked like some of the joints in a few spots were starting to swell.
Our house sat waiting on windows but now a ton of nasty mold and stuff is growing on it like fur. I mean TONS!!! Help!!!
Great qoute, Matt.
Matt, thanks for taking time to share God's promise and seeking others to pray for Houston. God bless you.
I've had water on my framing for 4 months now..... Mold is growing up the 2x4s. Can anything be done?
Yes call a restoration company
Bless 🙏
Great show, as usual. Intro/extro music is way too loud. I watch at home after the kids go home. If I turn it up enough to hear your voice clearly, the intro music will wake up everyone in the house. Otherwise, great stuff!
2 cameras because why
Pin meters have one downfall, they are only testing 1/16-1/8” into the wood. A hammer pin is ideal where you can drive it into the middle of your stock. A sonar device that allows for adjusting the specific gravity of the material would be even better.
Heh, I'm thinking more Icf and metal framing.
An inexpensive alternative to a carpet blower is a blower from an old furnace, but use with caution.
I am keeping all of the people in Texas in my prayer.
Thanks for the prayer :)
That wood will never be the same, all the problems will show up years later
Thank you for including the scripture. :-)
Use a towel
Dude talks out the side of his mouth
Dude everything was good until you tried to sell tickets to heaven what's up with that had nothing to do with the content of the video
Jesus tells us , many are called , but few are chosen . Make every effort to make your calling sure . are you selected or a reject?
praying for the flood victims? wtf. to a thinking person it is obvious logic. if god is all powerful and all knowing he wanted the flood to happen. simple logic.
freethinker52 so much for free thinking haha
“God doesn't prevent terrible things because: A. He can't. B. He doesn't want to. C. He causes them. D. He doesn't exist. Please vote now.
freethinker52 who let this pagan troll into Risinger's comment section?
Jesus loves you, freethinker52.
he does? even though I am an atheist? hes a swell guy. one question for you though. does god have the ability to make it rain?
Of course it may seem to be in poor taste to criticize the evoking of prayer under the dire circumstances experienced by many people in Houston (and on a UA-cam construction channel) and I appreciate the genuinely heartfelt sense of solidarity Matt shows with “our fellow man”. It seems, however, that actually doing something would be much more providential than praying.
Keep up the good work. I’m looking forward to the next installment.
Couldn't we have prayed before the hurricane hit??
FAIL!!! You seam like a genuine helpful person and a nice guy. However, if you can't even use simple logic and problem solving skills to determine that prayers have the same effect as doing nothing, why should anyone trust that you will make sound building decisions?
Well with your logic, you're not worthy of trust or capable of making good decisions either because you can't even spell seem. Not everyone has to think the same way you do. There's such a thing as different opinions by intelligent people. Not all of them think the same way. Good luck with your close minded lifestyle - hope it doesn't screw you out of really cool experiences and opportunities because you get so offended by people praying.
Thanks for the reply. Praying does not offend me. It merely makes the person who is doing the praying look ignorant. I don't think he's a dumb person. Most people with at least some intelligence can fix their ignorance with just a little bit of education. By the way, please look up the definitions of seem and logic. You will learn that I spelled seem correctly and you don't seem to understand the meanings of logic versus thinking.
Marcus Thompson can you prove that? I’d be interested to hear how...
@@marcusthompson4324 where did logic come from?
I originally did give you thumbs up on this video but then I give you thumbs down because he started preaching. Not everybody wants to hear that crap
Thats who needs Jesus most . Jesus didn't come to save good people like you , He came to save bad people like me and Matt
I abhor religion but I just ignore it. You will get by easier in life if you can do the same. More people are religious than not, so use sense.
God bless Matt.
Amen
