Excellent video sir. I can’t believe the near by sound system shop quoted me $375 for this job. I gotta hide my detector since they’re illegal in my state. 7 years with my Escort Redline works perfectly paid itself on the first month.
Always use panel tools when you have them. I've ripped open many fingers on the unfinished backside, even having super rugged hands from climbing poles and doing mechanical stuff. It will also save you from stretching the plastic in a small area creating those white spots or potentially scratching the panels from them exploding out of the mount holes and hitting the ground or other panels. The best panel tool is a plastic spatula. Don't buy it online, go to a local store. If you can't scratch it with a fingernail/gouge it with a key, it's not soft enough to be a panel tool. Edit: You forgot the link to the tap.
I thought about that, but the switches just go to the relays under the hood. I’m not sure if there’s enough voltage at the switch. They’re probably is, but I wasn’t sure.
I’ve run into problems doing that in newer cars that everything runs off relays and the amps run up to the mirror is not enough. For example, when turning on both lights, the radar detector shuts off. Also, this makes it completely removable without having to rewire anything.
Would have been much easier and better to tap into the power plug that’s right there under the mirror cover with a short wire with pins . No wire cutting or wiring to route. Amazon has a host of wires to do this with. They are 12”-18” long.
Nice video!! 👍
Thanks!

Just added it!! Thanks!
You should wired it up to one of the AUX switches… that is what I’m going to do

why not tap the power to the mirror?

Doesn't blend mount make a solution to tap into the mirror wire you zip tied to? Or did I miss something?
Not that I know of but that would be great!
Yes. This was way more effort that was necessary
The smart wire should have a mute button on it. I have the blend mount mirror tap, but I’m switching to this so I can mute the detector

Thanks for the tip! Agreed. This was a pain.
Hello what hardwire system did you buy?
