Gabe Newell astutely pointed out that all you have to do to beat piracy is to provide a better service and value than the pirates. Nobody has given me an argument that defeats this logic.
I've seen some game devs say that they prefer the player pirating the game over being ripped off by whatever vendor they buy the game from. Which makes sense if you think about it. The point of a game is to have a good time. I'd rather not sell my kidney for a good time that could get cancelled at any time for no real reason if I can just have a good time for free, have a better experience (looking at you, Denuvo) AND not have to worry about the game ceasing to exist randomly.
No, and there's a very simple reason for it: they aren't ran by people that care about making games, they're ran by people that care about making money. The modern triple A games market is all headed by a bunch of accountants looking to scrape every dime they can out of as little effort as possible. Broken at launch? Day one dlc? Always online reguardless of need for the sake of drm? Non-existiant community support to address game breaking issues? And all of that on top of them leaving a skeleton crew doing updates after 3 months to start work on the naxt big project? None of this is exclusive to ubi, and none of it is new. Nor should it be surprising, if you're looking at it as a money making process. Think of it as planned obsolescense for gaming: the bare minimum to keep people invested till the next release.
Sadly we're gonna have more corporate bootpickers as time goes on sadly. it seems within a generation we always get these people defending corporations.

My honest answer? I'm starting to think all these publishers might be the same company. They are all bullshitting the customer in similar ways. Its almost hard to not see the similarities.
I just find it a bit of a bad omen that the trailer had so many references to the original movies in it. Makes me think they’re making this more for nostalgia than for the sake of making a good gaming. On the flip side, Fallen Order was an actual game, with it’s own story. Sure, it showed Order 66, referenced Obi-wan Kenobi, and showed Vader. But as far as I can remember, they never advertised the game as “You fight Darth Vader in this game, omg you gotta buy this now!!!”. Those were bonuses ON TOP of a great game.
So there's one thing I need to correct you on: you only need internet to install the game. Once it's installed, you can play it as much as you want without an internet connection. Having said that, not including the entire game on the disc is fucking stupid
