My garden is 50ft wide and 90ft long on one side and 70ft long on the other with a 30 degree slope up as you go away from the 2ft high patio wall which is 12ft from the house. I've had great trouble finding anyone to do the work or even to come and have a look. But eventually got a company to come and have a look. I just wanted it terraced (two steps) with no garden design, plants or grass. On site the rep was greatly disinclined to do the job and when pressed quoted £60,000 (PRICED TO NOT DO THE JOB?) which is 12% of the house market value. This was just the latest attempt of several since I purchased the house new in 2007. Consequently my garden has stayed rough ground which my two Dobermann dogs find perfectly satisfactory. At a now age of 76 it will stay rough ground as it's unlikely I'll be around long enough to get my money's worth out of any work on the garden. So, to me, the £6,000 seems par for the course.
Wow I'm really amazed the the prices quoted. I've been out the building side of things whilst teaching for the last 14 years - mind blowing how much prices have increased!
