It never occured to me that since this happened on Pandora, it would be the humans that are the real aliens. In which case, from the perspective of the Na'vi, they are defending against an alien invasion.
Humans are aliens from the perspective of the Na’vi, just as the Na’vi are aliens from humans’ standpoint. And you’re right, the Na’vi are fighting for their independence and their home, just as Americans did against the British during the Revolutionary War, as Native Americans did against their European oppressors, and as Africans did against their white enslavers through various slave uprisings. And the Na’vi are fighting back against a hostile alien invasion, exactly as the people of Earth did in Independence Day and War of the Worlds. It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees.
And the humans are viewing all of what they’re doing from the perspective of the belligerent aliens from the movies I mentioned above, and from the standpoint of European settlers: we feel superior to the indigenous life, so we believe our interests greatly outweigh theirs and therefore, we feel justified in doing whatever we want to them, but they’re wrong.

The movie grossed $2.749 billion worldwide in its intial release, which made it at the time the highest-grossing movie in the world (surpassing Titanic) until it was surpassed by The Avengers 4 in 2019. It's now the 2nd highest-grossing movie in the world (behind The Avengers 4)
It’s so emotional even though it’s just a movie

Chain Reaction!
"The Sky people have send us a message."
