My dad had two of these aero birds! A '85 Turbo Coupe and an '86 Sport Coupe with an aftermarket 2.3L turbo four installed. Both were nice cars and I'd love to own an '80-'88 Foxbody Thunderbird!
I'd love one of these vintage jellybean style Thunderbirds. This along with the new Tauruses and Tempos of the same year were all very futuristic for their time!
I have an '86 I saved. It was my grandmother's. She stopped driver almost 4 years ago, so the car sat and sat. Last year, I put air in the tires, changed the oil, put fresh gas in it, and a new battery. And on the first try, it started right up. I had to put about $1,000 in parts into it to get it safely moving down the road again, but she runs and drives once again. And yes, this car was SO easy to get back on the road, and SO easy to maintain. Oh by the way, it only has 39,000 miles!!
thats great back in highschool i was given free a 82 tbird but parents said no..its finished... aww so it went to the crusher.. i liked the blue on blue and its a fox body fo its easy.. i would still own it today but its gone now... awww
That's a bummer. My uncle wanted to scrap the one I own now. But I learned how to drive in it. So the sentimental value is there. But at 32 years old, it's outlasted any other car I've owned! Runs and drives like a dream.
the older stuff is way easier to work on .. its the E test problem that makes you junk them.. the metal is this and disposable.. not worth it to spend 4000$ in repairs on a 10 yr old car.. but 32 yrs old.. yes.. the government cant force the car off the road..
I registered my vehicle as an antique. So an E test is not required. Plus I only put about 1,000 miles a year on it. I did remove the smog pump and air injection system, and deleted 2 of the 3 catalytic converters, and replaced the third catalytic converter with a Magnaflow high-flow converter. Needless to say, the car is running really well!
The Heritage edition was the top of the line. Literally, these were fully loaded. Keyless entry, lighted opera emblem on the c pillars, and the embroidered seats. It's a shame someone junked this car.
Not too bad really. It would be great if someone could save it. It has some nice features on it including the turn signal cornering lights on the fenders. Those were a great option and very useful.
i have one sitting im my garage....2nd owner 187 original kms...black with red pin striping and the 3.8v6. only difference this one from mine i dont have a sunroof but i do have the wing windows on the doors

Meh Its kind of ugly. I personally pefer the '87 design
I think that engine is the 5.0 because looks the same on my 85 tbird 5.0 😲

does any one know what the red light in the center control console is used for? my car has one but its broke.

This is not a heritage. Heritage has wing windows, 5.0 V8, Overdrive, all electric windows, factory mag wheels
