It's something that seems to have eluded them hitherto. Maybe some helpful person will intervene on behalf of Wolves fanbase? The owners just haven't replaced like for like in terms of the quality of the players that Wolves have had to sell. There's still well enough in Wolves squad for them not to go down though.
Fosun should go, awful owners. Their policy of self sustainable doesnt work. Managers dont want their hands tied and thats why decent managers have turned Wolves down. All Fosun have done is sell players and no replacements bought in. They have needed two decent centre backs, they sold Conor Coady and Max Kilman. Neither replaced. They have two goalkeepers neither of which are reliable. So two reliable centre backs and at least one decent goalkeeper are needed in January. Dont let Matt Hobbs near the transfer market either !!!
1:55 All British managers are "young good managers" similar to Eddie Howe who is only surviving because he is British. If his last name was 'Romano' he would have been sacked by now.
What a load of old tosh. If anything it's the other way round. Clubs would rather have a foreign manager playing attractive football that lose most weeks instead of a British manager that sets his team up to be as successful as they can despite the style. Look at Moyes at West Ham, he couldn't have done any better and still lost his job. O'Neil has kept two teams up that were favourites to get relegated and both times loses his job.
Nonsense. Eddie took over the job when we were at rock bottom. He transformed the club in half a season and then we went on to qualify for Champions league the following season. We didn’t sign anyone other than hopeless backups like Lloyd Kelly and the Greek goalkeeper whose name I can’t even remember. We sold Minteh and Anderson, two young homegrown talents starting regularly for Brighton and Forest. If anything, the guy who deserves sacking is the sporting director for failing to find business to do in the summer
They have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch in the league for the last couple of years. He overachieved last year & surprised everyone but unfortunately this year it hasn’t worked out for him. Wish him the best in the future - seems like a really good guy.
Gary O Neil is a very good coach. He will get better, even after his dismissal. Gary will take the last 3 yrs as a premier league manager as a good experience and would have learned a lot. Good luck to him.
This is a sacking that you could see coming… You can tell O’ Neil was trying to get Wolves playing attractive football, but results will always be the priority, especially for the “smaller clubs”? (No disrespect intended). Hopefully they get their next managerial appointment correct & can stay in the division?
re max killman, people forget that GON managing wolves in football matches was still losing and drawing for most of teh season - its funny how the press just love the fact he is british so male up excuses for him, like this one.
Wrong? It never went right??? Amazingly he made an appearance on Sky spouting this amazing tactic, everyone went Wow!!! But failed to notice 3 wins in 11 months. Lucky he had a job in the first place.
As a Chelsea fan I feel sorry for O'niel wolves sold their best players and can't replace them then expect the manager to fix it? Wolves need a reset go to the championship and build up themselves and come back stronger. You can't lose your best players and no player replacement its that simple.
Wolves has massively underachieved. I thought they were on the way to midtable when they won a couple of games recently, but things turned to crap very quickly again. Under the circumstances this sacking is hardly surprising because Wolves are much better than where they find themselves on the ladder.
Sick of this excuse only two players sold killman and Neto, Neto only played half a season ,we lost I think 10 in the last 13 at the end of last season he was part of the decision to not bring another centre half instead 20 mill spent on a defensive mid (Andre) who we did not need 6 players were brought in , Doyle the best passer of a ball in the club can't get a sniff ,larsen gets next to no service but scores when they create for him. They sacked the set piece coach O'Neil said he would take over the roll ,well we let 4 in against Everton 16 for the season double the amount of the next team southampton go ask a Bournemouth fan they weren't sorry to see him go
Kilman was replaced from within by an arguably better centre back, Mosquera, who'd been sent out on development loans and had a successful season at Villarreal last season. Neto can't be replaced, he is a completely unique player, but we signed 3 forward players, two wingers in Forbs and Gomes and a number 9 (which we were desperate for) in Strand Larsen. Outsiders are just regurgitating the same old rubbish O'Neil used as an excuse and perpetuated by the media. Fact check.
Was it really his fault when the league made wolves sell all their best players but yet a team in the league can spend 1.6 billion in 12 months ...seems so unfair to me...
Ipswich started the game with 6 players they had in league 1. The excuse that Wolves sold their best players doesn't really stand up. Last season it was VARs fault. O'Neil needs to accept responsibility if he's ever going to learn from his failure.
@@davidoldham1545yeah possibly, I also think the plaudits from last season went to his head. Thinks hes better than he is now as he'll quickly find with his next job offers
It went wrong because O'Neil is a League 1 level manager with sunday league level coaching staff. He's a chancer whose out of his depth in the PL. But too arrogant and full of himself to work on his own skills. Instead, making excuses every week for a year now. It is surreal how the media give him a free pass despite one of the worst runs of results the PL has ever seen and it trending worse over time.
Worst results ever in the PL?!???!! I can think of Sheffield United a few years back, had zero wins! I’m not even a wolves fan, you’re simply spreading disinformation about another person smh
Gary O'neil will learn from this experience and become a better manager as a result. I've not been impressed by some of the language he used over the last 18 months, far too familiar and friendly with the players for me, why the discipline has broken down and why he ultimately list the dressing room. Next manager is a mercenary and we'll be looking for a new one next season.
I’ll never forget when Wolves sacked Mick McCarthy and replaced him with his longtime assistant Terry Connor, as if he was going to play a different style or get more out of the same squad. They got relegated that season from a position that was recoverable. They should have given O’Neill more time.
@wheatgrinder83 I think there's two things at play. The first is that he's been dealt an awful hand by the owners, selling your best players is always tough for the manager, even though Cunha is genuinely a great player. However, even given those circumstances, he can't be losing at home to Ipswich and the expectation was that he'd be sacked after the West Ham loss, so it's arguable that he was actually given more time than he 'should' have been. I think he did incredibly well for his first season, but it's clear there are massive issues with the squad, both in terms of quality and attitude, so it's reasonable to think a change of manager might address those issues 🤷
If im Gary O’Neil let them pay me my contact up which is apparently a 4 year contract, only signed it in July so Gary is gonna be laughing all the way to the bank 😂
Why does even matter? wolves are still there for fans to watch. If their new manager improves things, then great. If he doesn't, oh well, sack him also a bit further on and rinse and repeat. If Wolves get relegated, life in the EFL ain't so bad - as I said, fans can still watch them. By the way, this logic applies to all clubs everywhere.
The problem stems from defence. Many of the players are gifted individuals, but apart from Craig Dawson, Wolves have been depending on attack at the expense of a sound defence!
I don't know who will want to go there with Fosun not wanting to spend any money. He's had £200 million worth of top players torn away from him with no real replacements bought in. The sending off will probably be chalked off because of the racist abuse that the player received.
Imagine selking your best players and then throwing your gaffer under the bus. Poorly run club, feel bad for their fans. Reminds of Southampton when they were churning world beaters.
Bournemouth sold Solanke, who was their best player. It hasn't bothered them. Because they have a real manager and are a well run club who realised O'Neil is a fake manager.
O'Neil the 🤡 couldn't manage his own dinner. Sacked by bournemouth and replaced by a young manager with positive skills., and look where they are in the table. The terrible run of games started last season and continued so it was not news that he's finally gone.
I think Gary is a nice bloke but he has to learn from what as gone on at Wolves, he made many mistakes by playing people in the wrong positions, not playing players that should be starting like Tommy Doyle and keeping players in the team too long like Sarabia and Bellegarde. Top managers won't come to Wolves because of Fosun and their ridiculous self sustainability model, that's not how football works.
Wolves issue is they buy random foreign players who aren't pl quality. Sold all their best players and replaced em with cheap foreign imports.. stamped with made in China on them as aren't good enough

He's a great manager. I'd take him at Spurs. He did well under immense pressure taking over at Bournemouth keeping them up. They pulled the rug from under his feet pre season at Wolves sold quality players in July 23 and then just as the season was about getting going City nicked Nunes (£60odd mill) in September 2023. He still kept them up. So then the club sells Neto to Chelsea no less for £60m on 7th Aug 24 and Kilman to West Ham!! Selling to teams around you??? on 6th July. He had his hands tied behind his back. Teams need to gel and you can't keep selling your best talent. His win record wasn't great but he deserves another prem club. WE NEED HOME GROWN MANAGERS. Kilman was replaced by Mosquera who got injured early in the season most of the wolves squad are internationals yet made mistakes of amateurs Gary O’Neil continued with zonal marking the players always looks baffled playing for him
Also it was weird to see Lemina playing as a CB. I know they are short of options at the back and as GON said, most of the CBs lack physicality, but surely with a 3-man midfield that can stay tight and have that aggression to tackle or get the ball early, that should be helpful. An Andre, Lemina, Joao Gomes partnership wouldn't be too bad
There is something that English managers just seem to lack, they don't have the character of demanded respect managers from other countries have. They are tactically weak, too polite and just don't have the edge that winners have. Why that is the case I do not know, is it just our culture does not lend itself to producing leaders that go onto becoming winners
PArt of the problem seems to be the media hype around the English managers. O'Neil was mostly hype. Bournemouth and Wolves fans know the real O'Neil and mostly have a very different opinion of him than his mates in the media! We know him as well out of his depth, can't organise a defence, relying on individual player brilliance to bail out his poor skills. And then making excuse after excuse when things dont' work out. Never taking responsibility himself, calling out players instead, which is appalling and he's been doing it for ages.
Please Wolves take Moyes back because that'll take him out of the market, Moyes is the best candidate because he will save you but don't expect fireworks or Prem trophies
So Gary O'Neill has been sacked today yet it won't be long until a championship come knocking on his door to manage there club. Anyway I reckon there's a man in place for wolves now taxi for Steve Cooper 😆😅😎👍
