LA is really diverse and it really depends on which areas you go to for your experience also. if you go to the bad neighborhoods or neighbouring cities, good luck and I hope you don't die. But if you go to the nice areas, you'll love LA so much. Everyone comes from different walks of life and its actually really amazing.
From another L.A. native: Whatever you want to see in L.A. you'll see in L.A., depending on which side of Wilshire blvd. you're on. Also, if you are a native who moved away and has returned after an extended period of time, you know not to be surprised that cool parts have been gentrified....Again. You can walk South Central at night, Compton has apartments for $1000 a month now, Leimert Park has a goddamn Starbucks and even MORE White people live in East L.A. The game done changed.
The same thing with NYC....when I havent visited certain parts of the outer boroughs for a few years and then go back I'm not entirely surprised at the changes but I am disappointed. Especially with the East Village now. I miss what was there 10 years ago - it doesnt feel like home anymore...it feels so...foreign to me - not all that welcoming anym,ore

I moved to LA with my mom and sister after I graduated High School in Garden Grove back in 2011. I really loved LA, sadly I had to move back to Asia mainly cuz college was expensive as fudge. 😂 I will be moving back to Cali in a few months though, just not LA yet. But hopefully in the future I will go back to LA. I miss that place.
I'm supposed to move to LA at the end of July from Sweden to study at SMC, but I'm starting to panic about money. Most of my friends and family tell me to postpone or maybe cancel the whole thing but I have one friend telling me I could make it, because I managed to move to London with little to no money and not knowing anyone. I don't know anyone in LA, it's far away from my home but I can't stand the thought of having to live in this fucking country for any longer. I don't know what to do, I can't stop crying over the fact that I have to make a decision, and no matter what decision I make it still involves paying more money. I just want to sleep, I don't want to make this decision, but I also don't want to end up at LAX with 3 suitcases full of shit, no one to call and no couch to sleep on.
i really feel you, I really really do :( but you gotta hang in there, maybe add 1 year where you work full time and gather as much money as you can, and as long as you know what you want in life, your path will unravel smoothly
(Take all of my advice as reference, I'm no genius I'm just going by experience) honey, I lived in LA for all my life.You'll make it if you're smart.There's a shit ton of grants here.But while you're getting started for the first part.You gotta eat minimal Like go to the supermarket and just get cans of stuff for the first few weeks to months of your stay.And for the first week in your stay, you gotta stay at a hotel (try one by your college) most are 65-100 per night.Try to use the least amount of gas possible, try buses because taxi is really expensive. For your first part of your stay get yourself an easy job that doesn't have you in a rut where you stay permanently at that job.At this point, you should move away from the hotel and find yourself somewhere else because hotels can kinda hard to pay for long term (maybe a ratty apartment, I wish I was kidding). While you have that job look for better jobs.Look at jobs at the college.Once you have a steady 1,000-2,000 for rent at an apartment go get a proper apartment and keep looking for better jobs while you get your degree.As I said, Really look into those grants, they really work. Two final things to keep you out of trouble, don't confront cops and unless someone is nice to you don't be overly friendly because they'll think you're up to something and call the cops.(But don't be mean either) Don't be afraid to go to the less luxurious areas, they cost way less.
OH! and don't stay at LAX any longer then you have too.Try not to book a flight in which you come in at night.Because you will find nothing but overpriced buses and taxis.Don't take any of tose fancy buses just walk a bit out of the airport and you'll find a regular bus stop.At the airport, you can ask a lot of the people there where to go.They'll be just as frazzled as you are so they won't be as mad.

In Sweden we have a system for student loans and I will be getting 1400 usd a month that is supposed to be enough for everything. I won't be able to get my own place, I'll have to share or get a room in someone's house where the rent is like 700 max. I managed to move to London with fuck all money but I want to avoid hostels and hotels at all costs, all I need is someone that can pick me up from the airport and let me stay for a week until I can get my grants. It's all too complicated and i know it's hard to understand the exact situation, but I really do appreciate you telling me how it is
