Well although there is a price difference for UK residents of only 500pounds, there is almost a 3000eur difference for the rest of Europe, which is quite a massive premium to pay extra for Cannondale
I’m a firm fan of Giant bikes and have owned many over the past 30+ years. The lack of extra small sized bikes in their new Propel range means I’d go now with Cannondale.
I am living in Taiwan and their is no question which bike I would choose. The propel advanced 0 is sold in Taiwan for £ 8714. Case closed. By the advanced 0 comes in 6 sizes...XS-XL
These prices are crazy I have a giant SL 2015 and it was lighter and half the price. How is is that all this “new technology” causes higher weight and prices. We moving backwards
Love the comparisona and breakdown of the bikes and their components. I agree, I'd take the Lab 71 frameset and slap on a pair of Cadex wheels and that would be my winner as well.
I have ridden a super six Evo hi-mod for years and loved it as a climbing bike, but I’m changing over to the propel it’s hands down a better aero road bike plus still comfortable. Update: I’ve decided on the new Cannondale Evo 2.
This makes me question the saddles. If you buy a bike this expensive it doesn’t come with pedals, why is the same not true for saddles? I buy a premium bike, I know what saddle I like. And if I don’t I’m buying pedals for it at the bikes shop already as an extra.
and at local vancouver giant shop, you're not even able to specify the handlebar width and stem length. You'll have to make some aftermarket purchase and the bike shop will install them for you "free of charge". I think the last 3 years of bike shortage has pamperred these manufacturers and retailers too much.
You don’t necessarily need to test the bike in person to review it. This is a great example of it. Please do it more. A review of every freaking supercar can be found on UA-cam but not the bikes; nothing is there whenever I’m looking for it. Thumbs up
I rode the Cadex tires. I needed new tires and they were the only decent tires available at local bike shops, so I bought a set. I can say that they are very, very good tires. I still have one on the front but have changed the rear as the Cadex wore out. (Yes, I know. Mismatched tires! I am forever doomed to ride a Huffy that was put together at Walmart for eternity in the afterlife.) As for which bike I would choose, I would choose the Cannondale. The Giant just doesn't excite me at all while the Cannondale does. It is just a better looking bike in my personal opinion.
We’ll I’m going to address the bb elephant but not on the press fit aspect but the fact everyone is in belief that ceramic speed or even ceramic bearings are better!! Well Jack only when it comes to race day but only for race day. The problem lies in the fact that ceramic bearings on bikes (yes even ceramic speed) are only hybrid bearings and the balls are way too hard for the races and destroys them. (Here take my money cs). If you want really good and really fast bearings then get high quality like NTN, SKF and FAG with LLU or labyrinth seals. These will roll just as fast, cost about 1/5 of the cost and last 20 times longer. I’ll keep money and use ceramic on race day thank you
The BB on the Lab71 is the coated version. From CeramicSpeed: "Our coated products are covered by a lifetime warranty. The unique coating formula is a metallic layer that covers the bearing races and makes them 75% harder than steel. Thanks to this, they are highly resistant to corrosion and the coating provides an even lower friction than our standard bearings. Even if the bearing is contaminated with degreaser, water or mud, the risk of bearing failure due to corrosion is negligible if you choose the coated version."
Both fantastic bikes, but if I had the money to choose I wouldn’t think twice about picking the Cannondale. Giant is a fantastic manufacturer who make great bikes, but their biggest strength is in value for money against the competition. Cannondale is generally thought of as a higher tier manufacturer than Giant and with both bikes being similar price the Cannondale stands out as being the better buy just based on this. It’s also likely it will maintain a considerably higher resale value in future. Aside from that I just think it all looks a bit more slick and well finished, and the much smarter looking cockpit is a big difference for me.
Spent about 500 miles on it and so far so good. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA Pros:1. Very light2. Solid quality build3. Fast delivery: It arrived 5 weeks earlier than expected.4. Easy assemblyJust a few cons but nothing major:1. Cheap tin tubes and had flat on first day... but not a big deal. I replaced the tubes.2. Seat is a bit uncomfortable but that's pretty much the same situation with most bikes.3. Seat post is a bit long/high for a smaller size 48 bike - had to saw 2 inch off to fit properly. The lowest setting is too high. The post locking system does not seem to hold well (perhaps because I saw 2 inch off).4. wheels are not tubeless compatible (from what I can tell)
If you look at geometries the y both differ much. As an owner of the previous Super Six (and Cannondale did not change the geometry) and riding a Giant propel advanced 1 I must say the Giant suits me much more. The cannondale has the slackest head angle of all racing bikes and the longest wheel base. I like it on long rides, it is predictable, but for me a bit boring, where the giant really felt exciting. I got that same feeling from the Trek Madone. But that is only my personal opinion.
American Cult Classic or Taiwanese mass produced. Easy choice. Don't get me wrong my Giant Expedition is the most trustworthy travel companion but my vintage Cannondales always will have that special place in my heart. Like a first love kinda thing ❤
I had an aluminum giant tcr for 3 years. Loved the bike. Then I bought into marketing hype and switched to a caad12. Apart from looks, the caad was in every other respect an inferior bike. Local carbon repair shop calls them “creak and fail” while admits that giant makes among the best frames in terms of quality, finish, and tolerances. Cannondale does have great marketing however.
I am more apt to call this a tie and I ride Cannondale. I think the saddle is a non-issue as I would not use either of the stock pieces. Both are nice but I would go with the Cannondale as I have yet to fit on a Giant with any comfort. This has nothing to do with quality just what fits my odd body geometry.
Given you are comparing two high-end pure race bikes your evaluation criteria seems very odd. Little of your evaluation will be of interest to anyone who actually wants to race these bikes. Maybe you should have waited to release this video until after you rode both bikes. Ride quality, handling, aero, power transfer, are much more relevant than the topics you chose to address.
Ist the integrated powermeter no extra outstanding point for the Giant? Better rims and more tec for less money, this should outpoint the given points like a saddle or an ceramicspeed bb. The blown up prices in US Dollar 💲 and € are insanely higher @ cannondale. A shame.
The Chinese need to get in here and humble the bike market, this sport is getting way to expensive , I often wish I had started cycling at a young age , but thinking about it now there would be no way my younger self would be able to afford the sport the way it's going now.
So Cannondale wins on saddle and sizing (which if you're between 5'6“ and 6'3“ doesn't matter) but loses on wheels and price? Those things are hardly equivalent. Giant wins surely although bottom bracket is a good win for Cannondale. Also looks for me are superior on the Cannondale.
These testing criteria are so random.. Maybe you wanna also compare the smell of the boxes they come in? Honestly with these criteria you would make a 900 USD Mountainbike come out evenly. How about actually focussing on actual performance, functionality and user experience metrics?
I just picked up an outgoing 2021 brand new propel advanced slO disk . SRAM red groupset, Cadex wheels but 65/43 and pretty much all the same parts as this propel with a Garmin 530 computer for £4600. New models are a ripoff
There is a fair market for top level bikes out there, ultimately there are plenty of people in the world who are wealthy (or use a lot of credit!). In my experience often the market for top level bikes is not the super fit athlete who is typically younger and less wealthy, but is the well off middle age guy who actually probably doesn’t ride that much. Hence the reason you often see these bikes re-sold a year down the line in almost unused condition. You may not buy a bike at this price, and neither would I - but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of people out there who will.
Probably both frames are manufactured in Giant Factory Under an OEM licence. So any differences will be marginal at best. Costs still remain beyond the reach of most riders across the globe. To only see these models superseded next year.
Propel won’t allow tyres bigger than 28 and come with Giants ludicrous tubeless system - forces you to run high pressures, max 28mm tyre, hookless rims meaning you can’t safely ride this bike with a non-Giant tyre if you weight more than 78kg. Therefore it is a pointless bike for consumers.
What a pointless review. There's only one of the criteria used I would consider a factor out of those raised here - the wheels. Tyres are a consumable so who cares in the long run? Clearance? These bikes are for ultimate speed on the road. Nobblies not required!
Cannondale has a history of quality control problems since moving production to China. I’m sure the bike will struggle with durability and probably will fall apart after 2-3 yrs of solid riding.
I do like the Propel. And I've become a big fan of the Giant TCR line. At the end of the day, however, Cannondale is just a super innovative organization and so many others in the industry watch what they are doing. And then follow suit 🙂 Plus I've been riding CDale since the early '80s and I've always loved them. (Granted, Cannondale was late to the 'dropped seat stays' geometry, but an 'aero SuperSix' wasn't their focus early on.
I would say that now range toping bikes are over £11k it makes the customer the loser, not the winner.
They're selling them here in the States. Middle aged Professional men have disposable income.
Bikes that cost 12.5k and we are the winner?!
They're selling them here in the States. Middle aged Professional men have disposable income.
Paper comparison holds no weight against an actual riding comparison
I believe the Propel Advanced SL 0 comes in 6 sizes: X-Small, Small, Medium, Medium/Large, Large and X-Large...
Yes, its like looking at the bike's website was too tough for them. SMH
Well although there is a price difference for UK residents of only 500pounds, there is almost a 3000eur difference for the rest of Europe, which is quite a massive premium to pay extra for Cannondale

There are XS Propels.
Cannondale looks beautiful!
I am living in Taiwan and their is no question which bike I would choose. The propel advanced 0 is sold in Taiwan for £ 8714. Case closed.
By the advanced 0 comes in 6 sizes...XS-XL
my 2016 trek emonda slr8 came in stock at 5.5kg (w Al wheels) at less than half the price
These prices are crazy I have a giant SL 2015 and it was lighter and half the price. How is is that all this “new technology” causes higher weight and prices. We moving backwards
Never heard of Aerogains
and slower than these bikes
Yeah the watts saved today is much higher

some of the items on your table should have different weights. For example, saddles are very personal and not as important as wheels.
You don’t necessarily need to test the bike in person to review it. This is a great example of it. Please do it more. A review of every freaking supercar can be found on UA-cam but not the bikes; nothing is there whenever I’m looking for it.

Top trumps. We need more comparisons like this.
Propel frames (SL and Non-SL) are everywhere in here in Asia
Loving, I Mean really loving the new Cannondale. Both are spectacular options but imo the SS is best...
rating saddles is...well...subjective
How is a change in BB in any way an upgrade? How you hinted at it changing the ride, how is this possible?
Both fantastic bikes, but if I had the money to choose I wouldn’t think twice about picking the Cannondale.

Google says that Cannondale is produced in Taiwan. Would be funny if it is sub contracts of Giant fabrics
Prices are just silly. These bikes as specd are silly
Why not compare against the TCR?
I would say it's a fair comparison as the aero profiles are closer to the Propel than the TCR.
Or the Propel V System 6.

But which one is faster, thats the real head to head
I have Approximately £6000 to spend, lower tier versions of these are my 2 options, and I can't pick which one 😞
I'd probably buy the Giant, but the SSE is the more beautiful bike.

The 2 bikes go 'head-to-head' on paper 😏

All parts are made in China, Taiwan on all bikes.

In Australia the Propel SL is $13999 that is £7700 that is £4298 cheaper and you can buy the frame set only over here for $5199 or £2890
Standard uk rip off
There’s no video on the audio
Did Cannondale forget abut the Black INc???? That's the lightest there.
Giant does not cater for taller riders in general, so I’ve never been able to consider them, although I like them.
Given you are comparing two high-end pure race bikes your evaluation criteria seems very odd. Little of your evaluation will be of interest to anyone who actually wants to race these bikes. 12.5k is ridiculous...
Propel cut kill customers off by the sizing . Where the xs for peeps who are shorter?
The Chinese need to get in here and humble the bike market, this sport is getting way to expensive , I often wish I had started cycling at a young age , but thinking about it now there would be no way my younger self would be able to afford the sport the way it's going now.
Bikes starting to look more and more alike cause of the aero design. Frankly:, both of them don’t make my blood run faster.
Consumers are not the winners when a few years ago top end bikes used to cost $6,000 and now they cost $15,000. Duh! 😒
They're selling them here in the States. Middle aged Professional men have disposable income.
I’m a fiddler on the roof of fit. Screw the seatmast.
Why compare the Evo to the Propel ? You should have compared it to The S-Works Tarmac. That's like The Evo's rival.
How can you compare propel SL frame with cannondale lab17 frame 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
So Cannondale wins on saddle and sizing (which if you're between 5'6“ and 6'3“ doesn't matter) but loses on wheels and price? Those things are hardly equivalent. Giant wins surely although bottom bracket is a good win for Cannondale. Also looks for me are superior on the Cannondale.

What else. 😂❤😅
Who are you reviewing this for? Who buys these bikes? Why not review something like the Advanced 1/2 instead?
basically "bike porn" kinda video, for entertainment but not to inform

The top trump is easy, Giant builds their own frames and Cannondale does not. Game over.
This due needs to really change the way he talks. Your jaw must be hurting with all the unnecessary stretching of the facial muscles.
The Lab71 will get you more likes. Get the Lab71 if you can afford it. Giant is like the Toyota of bikes and no one wants to be seen in a Toyota.
Cannondale has a history of quality control problems since moving production to China. I’m sure the bike will struggle with durability and probably will fall apart after 2-3 yrs of solid riding.
Nice bikes to look at but ridiculous to ride especially as an amateur! And I don't even want to talk about the price! Bizarre
