No, I'm pretty sure it's ARE. I think his point is that while you might agree with how Kyle defended himself and agree with the verdict, that doesn't make him a hero. It was a tragic situation that was blown up by the media and used to spread more division. The people who wrote the constitution are having their statues torn down and names taken off buildings for things they did that may not be acceptable in society today, but were very much a part of society at the time. The people judging them don't realize that their actions will also be judged by future generations and found unsavory because times change and societal values change with them. So the authors of the Constitution, one of the greatest documents ever written, are erased, yet a kid who ending up killing someone in self defense is a hero to some. Just another way our society is backwards as hell.

Kyle is not a hero, he is a PATRIOT who stands for the 2nd. He was trying to help people, all of them, but they idiots attacked him. He did what he had to do, just like most of us would. We need to idolize the people who wrote the Constitution and gave us our freedoms. Kyle was just using his Constitutional rights to protect himself, thus the not guilty verdict. The real heroes are the ones who wrote the Constitution.
At first I felt weird about this Kyle Rittenhouse line. Then realised Tom was right. Rittenhouse had to defend himself. He had to. No doubt about it. But you're not a hero saving your own life. It is still a freakin tragedy. But I'm glad he got cleared
