I wish people would stop commenting on the "outrageous price" in every new RV video I watch. Yes, new RVs are expensive, especially in that they are generally a low volume product. Add together hundreds of man hours of labour (for a small trailer like this), thousands of $ in materials, factory overhead (a building, utilities, property tax, business tax, etc), staff, benefits, warranty, shipping, manufacturer profit, dealer profit, etc. If you think you can make one just as nice for less, then spend dozens to hundreds of hours sourcing plans & materials, thousands of $ for materials, then hundreds of hours more to put it all together. You're going to need welding skills, carpentry skills, electrical skills, plumbing skills, upholstery skills, mechanical skills, assembly skills, a large garage to build it in and lots of patience and time. Nice new things in life don't come cheap, especially when they're made in America with expensive union labour.
No kidding. People seem to think you should be able to buy something like this for a few grand - not realizing a good bike costs a few grand. Oh, I should now apologize to those who have never seen anything other than a Walmart bike.
I'm building my own "off road" teardrop. I'm nearly finished and will have spent at least $6,000 when I'm done. I will have about 300 hours of labor into it. If I could sell it for $15,000 I'd only be making about $30 per hour. Yeah, people just don't have a clue what it cost to build something like this.
Am a long time sailor, why aren't there more Red/White light combos/options. A red light option is easy to entertain and it helps so much with many transitions at night.
marinebeam: store.marinebeam.com/ is a good source of LED lights that can be used in a teardrop trailer. Many of their lights can illuminate in two (or more) colors. Like white or red. Or white, blue, green and red. I bought two 3 W LED Bulkhead Reading Light(s) with Touch Dimming: store.marinebeam.com/3w-led-bulkhead-reading-light-with-touch-dimming/ for my teardrop. I also bought several lights that can be switched from white to red light: store.marinebeam.com/5-5-red-white-switchable-led-cabin-dome-light/ . My teardrop is black rhino coat. It really doesn't add a lot any heat. Whenever possible I park in the shade (which is why my solar is on a 20' cable). What y'all done realize is 20,000 smackers is pretty damn affordable for something that literly includes EVERYTHING shown. I mean the tent on the top that folds out sleeps 3 bloody people. So by far when you compare it to other teardrop trailers of the same style it is a bargain. Grown up going camping across the USA most of my life and by far this is way more convenient than hauling around a 30 foot travel trailer. I'm only 26btw. My husband and myself will be saving for one of these amazing little trailers very soon!!
Awesome, great design, quality craftsmanship. I would definitely pay 4 grand for one of these babies. 16 grand... is that for 4 or is it buy 4, get the 5th for free?
I've noticed all everyone talks about anymore is bathroom this and bathroom that. If you can't live without a flushing toilet don't leave your overpriced McMansion. This camper is worth the money.
I love this camper and hope to be able to get it very soon. I have 2 questions: 1) what is the best (most stable) option to carry 2 mountain bikes? Will they fit on the front platform? 2) How much clearance is under the kitchen cover top when it is raised up? Me and my husband are tall. Thank you!
So glad you love it - we do, too! You can always put a hitch extender on the back and connect a bike rack, which will protect your bikes and the pod. When the kitchen hatch is open, it's about 6"6 at the lowest point, give or take depending on your suspension options. If you get the upgraded suspension in the lifted position, you'll gain about another 4 inches. Hope this helps!
And that doesn't include the extras, such as the awning, the rooftop tent, the storage boxes in the front, the propane tank, the shower, or the side table
We provide two refrigeration / cooler options. The YETI Tundra 65L cooler comes standard. This can be upgraded to a Dometic CFX3 35 12V fridge/freezer. The cooler tray can only accommodate other coolers / refrigerators of the same size (17 1/4” × 16” × 30 5/8”). If you want to put your own Pelican cooler in, you can opt out of the YETI cooler, and we will leave your cooler tray empty.
@@RickZackExploreOffroad no one asked for a more durable plastic but they made it anyways so west marine can sell it to rich people who have too much money.
@@malimish Generally speaking "marine grade" is of a substantially higher quality. Extra UV protection is a worth the extra cost. With in reason of course
Yeah baby! Said it before, I’ll say it again: you guys are killing it! The thoughtful, inventive, incremental small changes you’re making are fantastic. Details! Examples abound, but the Rumpl down blanket for the rentals is a good example: color and even the kinda topo lines tie it all together.Jealous you got out in the Swell between storm cycles back home, too.
BMW, Porsche, Mercedes. Well built & designed = expensive. These guys are not getting rich and prolly not even taking a paycheck. I doubt they make 50/year of these. Figure a 100% markup, which is normal, and they are working harder than all of us, taking more risk than any of us, and making less than most of us. All to be proud of creating something from scratch. That being said, I'm a Baby Boomer and not afraid to sleep on the ground in a tent. But there is always one day a season, I wake up flooded or with a broken tent pole. We call that a story to tell. To each their own right? Good luck with your business, I drive by your shop frequently and never see anyone there.
Thanks for the support! We're currently making ~ 30 a year, so you're right on the money with your assumptions. Feel free to stop in next time you drive by...we work long hours during the week, but try to enjoy some time for ourselves on the weekends.
Great teardrop. The freshwater is 21 gallons? Is this correct? Do you have the option of a bigger diamond plate storage box in front? Where is the battery box located? For the spare tire, where will it be located? Thanks
Hey Julius, that is correct, 21 gallons. We're working on a bigger nose box at the moment actually (stay tuned!). Battery in this model is in one of the boxes on the front deck. Spare tire would be mounted to the top of the fender on the passenger side.
With a sink comes reduced space, added cost, and more risk of damage. We opted for a hot water setup with our integrated table, which with a wash tub and drying rack works just as well without those drawbacks.
Nice build. You said weight was 1600 lbs, was that for the trailer shown or for standard topo without options? How many gallons of water can tank hold?
Dry weight is 1650 for the standard topo - this one was closer to 1800, then 2000 with a full tank of water and food in the cooler. Tank holds 21 gallons.
Thanks for the reply. I just checked out your website. Is there a video or pictures somewhere that shows the trailer with all the options? Like the solar, ac & heat unit, storage boxes, tire mounts, etc.?
AC is an optional add-on - really depends on the climate. We don't get much interest in that option in Utah...for most local climates two windows and a powerful fan are all you need to keep cool at night.
@@EscapodTrailers I dig it. I really do. I dont mind a lil roughing it but momma gets a tad grumpy if she cant get cool at night after her shower. And that mattress ain't really gonna get tested either when shes grumpy.... you get the picture Another thing that the RV manufacturers have completely failed to grasp is to just place a sealable hole for a typical AC window unit in their products. The roof top units aren't something that can be easily installed by the end user. You have to go back to the damn dealer and wait 2 months to have a unit installed and more times than not the cost is prohibitive. My son is out of school in the summer. That's when I can camp. Typically it's hot then. These teardrops dont require a 13.5 max air XV to cool them.... just about a 5000btu unit that can be had at the local box store for $125. More often than not I think the buying public would enjoy their camping more if they could relax knowing that if portions of their kit, whether it's their outdoor shower of AC untit fails on a trip they can stop in at a Wallyworld and grab another if need be. It extends their season also. And I see with some units it's possible to do on a solar system or will become more feasible in the next 5yrs
Got damn almost 20k$ by the time you walk out the door!! I'm sorry man but that's just way too much for not even having a bathroom or even space to stand up lol. I'm glad you guys like it but for me and my dog it looks insufficient especially for almost 20 grand... I have more space in my 8ft bed lol
No worries, Christopher. We realize we're offering a model that isn't a good fit for certain priorities. We're building a trailer that's meant to handle really technical terrain and difficult to reach areas without being any worse for wear (and still offer plenty of comforts above and beyond tent camping) - this comes with a lot of upgraded materials and attention to details that aren't present in larger RV models. Lucky for you, if standing and pooping inside are priority #1 for you there are lots on the market that are servicing that need ;)
@@jaycevessier7554 It is the whole point. People that buy these or similar off road trailers have a specific need. Your priorities concerning comfort are not those of over landers. To them the priorities are agility and strength. A 7000 teardrop will rattle apart, a 30' RV will not make far beyond the paved road. My teardrop costs 16K and it doesn't even have the rear galley. Because my priorities are small size (agility) and cargo space. Without the galley I can store an extra 3 weeks of food and water. If I need a toilet I break out my shovel and dig a hole. Yet I am sleeping on a comfortable mattress away from the rattlers, scorpions, tarantulas, mountain lions and coyotes. Snug as a bug in a pup tent on wheels.
That night it got down to 18 degrees. It is insulated on all sides, but you must keep it vented. With body heat and the right blankets you'll be fine for short trips year round. If you plan to do extensive Winter camping we do have a forced air propane heater option, which is great.
Escapod yeah I work out in the oilfield I have been doing a ton of research the last few months and this seems perfect for me as long as it’s good for extreme cold I like the forced air option that sounds legit
True! Different product entirely though - We're focusing on building a very capable trailer that can get you places where you might want to spend more time outside the trailer. Not your average KOA vehicle here. Thanks for the feedback.
I love this design. It looks great. Any chance you will be at the Utah expo center for the RV show Feb 14-17? I would love to check it out in person, and possible rent one.
Hey Jesse - Thanks for the kind words. We won't be at the RV show, but we're a short drive up the canyon from Salt Lake if you'd like to come visit our shop and check it out in person. Our rentals will be available in March/April
Thanks Steve! You had to add the zeros for cents on to make it looks extra expensive, huh 😉 happy to chat and talk through our options, process, and how we arrived at that price.
Not many people if you're looking at the entire market, but we are a niche product.Yes, your bumper-pull is towed and you sleep and cook in it, but that is where the similarities start to fade. Comparing a 'conventional' RV with what we're building can start by looking only at the product, but is much more about the question of what you can do with it. You can buy a cheap bike and enjoy riding to the grocery store, but to ride up and down mountains you need a mountain bike with full suspension - a product that is built for a purpose. Your RV is built for one purpose, and ours for a different one - comparing the product without the intended use is only half the equation. We've prioritized a purpose with our trailers that is, in our opinion, much more fun than just being able to poop inside ;)
I wish I could post pictures of where we’ve taken our bumper pull. You’d be surprised. And so far of the pictures posted of people pulling these ‘off-road trailers’, they haven’t done anything I can’t/haven’t done with our bumper pull 😉 1; if I’m pulling a trailer 2; if it’s ‘that pricey’ ... you better believe it’ll be ‘comfortable’. The only thing I haven’t done is pulled in snow, but that’s primarily because of the climate we live in. And I know many like me. We started out in a tent. When your price tag is competing with conventional r/v’s you absolutely will be compared to them. Just a fact of life. Americans are getting out of touch with reality
@@Fordgroup00 That's great that you're getting such good milage and accessibility with your trailer - If you don't need the extra things we put into our builds, and aren't willing to sacrifice the things we leave out, then it just wasn't meant to be :) We can't appeal to everyone, and even if we did we couldn't build trailers that fast! All the best on your adventures - Chris
People that are into 4 wheeling, specifically overlanding. People that want a little more than a tent but still be able to drag their rig most places the Jeep can go. For me it's the capability to outfit myself for 3 weeks in the bush. Of course my toilet involves a shovel :)
I just have to say a lot of people comment on 20k for this is to much. I don't think they understand the hard work and craftsmanship involved in making this teardrop. It's well thought out design and use of top quality accessories that make it well worth the money. Do a little research into teardrops and you will see they start at around $6,500 and go to $50,000 and your getting what you pay for in this model. it all comes down to what you want bare bones or some comfort or at the best ultimate comfort you get what you pay for. This is just my observation of this do the research before you make a snap judgement about it.
@@Fordgroup00 Yes it does it also weights five times more and you need a very large truck to tow it and it just mite not get into places that this rugged little teardrop can go.
You'd be surprised where I've gotten our 28' 😉 but yeah, agility is about the only thing these little trailers have over a 'conventional' rv. But to be asking almost $20k and on up for that is just insane
@@Fordgroup00I see your issue with the price but the reason I would pay the price is its built for off road. I have a jeep so I like to got way out in no mans land and would not want to beat up a big nice rig like you say plus I probably could not with only a jeep. That is why I prefer a teardrop.
Thanks for the support, Roger - As Ogre Dad mentioned, agility is definitely top of the list as far as why we're building these - what they achieve above and beyond a traditional RV, and why the construction specs and details of these are much more considered. When it comes to exploring varied terrain with confidence we think agility/capability/quality are good things to put atop our list of priorities :)
Depreciation is not at all certain. For example Camp-Inn teardrop trailers (a high quality builder/manufacturer), among others, hold their value well. They are all built-to-order and customized with the options a buyer chooses. Their prices are similar. It's not unusual for a used one to sell for the original purchase price, or sometimes more.
Wow, 20 g's!? What does it cost to build one of these? Maybe 8 or 9? Nothing like a 100% markup, Lol. Wish I could get profit margins like that in my business! Keep on dreaming you guys. There's lots of rich idiots out there who might buy one of these. I'll stick to my tent trailer and camper shell, thanks.
You're pretty close to our material costs, yes...we also have overhead/employees/benefits/marketing/R&D/accountants and legal fees, etc to pay for. We're a business - our cost is based on more than just the cost of goods. If you believe your current setup is comparable, or (like many other comments) you believe you can make this yourself, you absolutely should. You will save money doing so.
Escapod Maybe you should look into shrinking your overhead and thinning your workforce if you can't make a small pod trailer for less than what a real house trailer costs. What I've got now, I can cook in even if the weather is bad, and I can stand up in to put my pants on, and I can park in places near Moab that require toilets. I can also bring my atv and bike with me, and have room for supplies to last a month if needed. All that for WAY less than your pod trailer. I wish you luck, and it's great to see a Utah company making a go, but you're way out of line on prices. I don't see you being around long if things don't change. Just take a look at the comments on this video......90% of them are just like mine.
@@utahwanderlust700 I appreciate your perspective. You're right there's a lot of surprise here about our prices...it surprised us too. We have found an enthusiastic community for our product and price point in the real world - this is not a prototype, but one in a queue of 30 scheduled and paid for that we'll be building this year. Your opinion is valued, but we'd be operating a very different company if we let UA-cam drive our business strategy. Wish you the best, and glad you've found an RV that works for your needs.
Can I stand up and get dressed inside? 20k should allow this to happen. Damn it doesnt even come standard with a tv. What are you guys smoking on? I need that
@@EscapodTrailers I get the market your trying to attract. You have all the same features as little guy with the exception that yours has a mounted shower and is 9k more. Where does this value come from? Charge it just because few will pay?
@@THATDUDE1984 a Little Guy and an Escapod are two very different trailers, build quality, and materials are the biggest difference. They are mass-produced in a large factory as we produce everything with 3 employees, care is given at every step. As for pricing, like most companies, we price off of material cost, labor and fixed costs. Our shop is extremely modest as are our personal saleries. If you take a look at the hand crafted trailer market, we are priced at the mid range. We build because we love the lifestyle and sharing our work with others, not because we are trying to get rich. Hope this helps explain our position. Thanks for the great conversation.
From Yeti: A few weeks ago, YETI® notified the NRA Foundation, as well as a number of other organizations, that we were eliminating a group of outdated discounting programs. When we notified the NRA Foundation and the other organizations of this change, YETI explained that we were offering them an alternative customization program broadly available to consumers and organizations, including the NRA Foundation. These facts directly contradict the inaccurate statement the NRA-ILA distributed on April 20. Further, the NRA-ILA stated in that same public communication that “[YETI has] declined to continue helping America’s young people enjoy outdoor recreational activities.” Nothing is further from the truth. YETI was founded more than 10 years ago with a passion for the outdoors, and over the course of our history we have actively and enthusiastically supported hunters, anglers and the broader outdoor community. We have been devoted to and will continue to directly support causes tied to our passion for the outdoors, including by working with many organizations that promote conservation and management of wildlife resources and habitat restoration. From our website to our film footage and from our social media posts to our ambassadors, YETI has always prominently featured hunters pursuing their passions. Moreover, YETI is unwavering in our belief in and commitment to the Constitution of the United States and its Second Amendment.
Hey Chris - curious as to what you mean by 'far from as shown'? I've listed all the features in the description that come with this trailer. The biggest factor on the price of this model is the rooftop tent - those things aren't cheap, but with this setup you can house 4-5 people.

Perfect for the next zombie apocalypse
$16,000!?!?!?!?!!!!!! Holy hell man! It’s nice but I don’t know about THAT nice! 😱☠️
And that doesn't include the extras, such as the awning, the rooftop tent, the storage boxes in the front, the propane tank, the shower, or the side table
Can I replace those Yeti coolers with Pelican?
We provide two refrigeration / cooler options. The YETI Tundra 65L cooler comes standard. This can be upgraded to a Dometic CFX3 35 12V fridge/freezer. The cooler tray can only accommodate other coolers / refrigerators of the same size (17 1/4” × 16” × 30 5/8”). If you want to put your own Pelican cooler in, you can opt out of the YETI cooler, and we will leave your cooler tray empty.
Beautiful little camper, it's way out of my price range, but I'm completely stealing the cabinet door laptop stand for a homebuilt at some point.
What does marine grade HDPE do that regular HDPE doesn't?
Doesn't get motion sickness?
@@thedirtyknobs maybe plastickier than land plastic?
Marine grade HDPE is the higher density board with added UV protection. SeaBoard is a popular brand of Marine grade HDPE
Can we see more of Allie, please?
Shannon, we're going to build you the best damn trailer we've ever built - you rock!
Aww, shucks.🤗
Chris what was your fuel mileage pulling the Escapod with the Tacoma?
No sink?
With a sink comes reduced space, added cost, and more risk of damage. We opted for a hot water setup with our integrated table, which with a wash tub and drying rack works just as well without those drawbacks.
Nice build. You said weight was 1600 lbs, was that for the trailer shown or for standard topo without options? How many gallons of water can tank hold?
Dry weight is 1650 for the standard topo - this one was closer to 1800, then 2000 with a full tank of water and food in the cooler. Tank holds 21 gallons.
I must have missed it. Dose the water heater come with it? It's a great feature
It sure does!
Thanks for the reply. I just checked out your website. Is there a video or pictures somewhere that shows the trailer with all the options? Like the solar, ac & heat unit, storage boxes, tire mounts, etc.?
Great looking trailer. Can the roof rack carry a Shiftpod?
Out of my price range but very well done!
$16.5k is a bit much with no AC
AC is an optional add-on - really depends on the climate. We don't get much interest in that option in Utah...for most local climates two windows and a powerful fan are all you need to keep cool at night.
@@EscapodTrailers I dig it. I really do. I dont mind a lil roughing it but momma gets a tad grumpy if she cant get cool at night after her shower. And that mattress ain't really gonna get tested either when shes grumpy.... you get the picture
Another thing that the RV manufacturers have completely failed to grasp is to just place a sealable hole for a typical AC window unit in their products.
$16,500 for that is awesome price ,shop around if u think thats expensive, u will soon realize, its not
Very well done. No sink or max coupler for 16K... that should be remedied.
Hahaha... I just bought a brand new 30' Cherokee with super slide out for this price! Yall are crazy
Try taking a 30' RV over Lippincott Pass. Apples and oranges
@@RickZackExploreOffroad doesnt matter... the point is... I have 10x the amenities as this... the price does not fit this unit.
@@RickZackExploreOffroad I'm a man, baby. The world is my toilet
Pussy millennials afraid to sleep on the ground
I love this! Narrowed my search down to two trailers now.. Does this have solar hookups? Or a place to charge your computer while its in the cabinet?
How does this do in cold weather
That night it got down to 18 degrees. It is insulated on all sides, but you must keep it vented. With body heat and the right blankets you'll be fine for short trips year round. If you plan to do extensive Winter camping we do have a forced air propane heater option, which is great.
Escapod yeah I work out in the oilfield I have been doing a ton of research the last few months and this seems perfect for me as long as it’s good for extreme cold I like the forced air option that sounds legit
20K is a bit too much. you get a nice sized camper pull behind for the same and get a whole lot more room
True! Different product entirely though - We're focusing on building a very capable trailer that can get you places where you might want to spend more time outside the trailer. Not your average KOA vehicle here. Thanks for the feedback.
WHAT KINDA MOTOR THAT THING RUNNIN?
I love this design. It looks great. Any chance you will be at the Utah expo center for the RV show Feb 14-17? I would love to check it out in person, and possible rent one.
Hey Jesse - Thanks for the kind words. We won't be at the RV show, but we're a short drive up the canyon from Salt Lake if you'd like to come visit our shop and check it out in person. Our rentals will be available in March/April
@@EscapodTrailers Awesome! Thank you, I will have to take a trip up there in March.
would it be possible to replace the inside cabinets with a small loft for a kid to sleep on?
Not in our current model, no. Maybe in the future!

Does this model have screen doors?
Awesome idea too expensive for the cheap build
Kinda expensive but really slick trailer.
What are the dimensions of the bed?
It's really nice but I got mine for $1900. of course I had to assemble it

Nice👍but $20,000.00?😲
Thanks Steve! You had to add the zeros for cents on to make it looks extra expensive, huh 😉 happy to chat and talk through our options, process, and how we arrived at that price.
Jesus Christ 20k$ for that little ass thing?!?!
People rent this?
Damn! $20k!? Our complete bumper-pull WITH A TOILET was just under that! Who buys these!?
Of course my toilet involves a shovel :)
is your bumper pull built with the same quality materials?
Heat?
Hey Troy - we offer a Propex HS2000 forced air propane heat option.
A 'well thought out design' has a walk-around queen bed always down and a bunk area and a shower separate from the toilet with tandem axles 😉
When it comes to exploring varied terrain with confidence we think agility/capability/quality are good things to put atop our list of priorities :)
just gonna add that these are hand made, attention to every detail, go buy a 16000 run of the mill rv and see how cheap they are

Monies your asking are not realistic
After 5yr ownership the warranty and depreciation goes down the drain👎👎.
Thanks Freddy - We've only been around 3 years, but your prediction is noted, and we can assure you we're doing all we can to prove you wrong.
Just saw a guy trying to sell his 2011 So Cal 450 krawler for $19,000...so, no, depreciation is not a factor.
Why are these pods always so expensive. I'd much prefer a converted van
Buy a converted van and pay at least $50,000 or more
No bathroom? Come on I’ll buy a tent and pocket $19,500
My bathroom costs me about 10 bucks. I call it "the shovel"
Just buy a box trailer and convert it.
