How Canibus says Halle Berry like "Helle" is hilarious to me. Anyhow, this interview was such a needed interview to help people who didn't witness Canabus run. All my yrs in following the culture I've never seen a rapper come out the gate with such a high skill set, put fear in the game and have such huge anticipation for people to just hear his next freestyle or song or feature. He had the ability to have a hip-hop quotable every time he was on a song. Respect Canibus. For those who need reference check songs like "Desperados" on The Firm album or "Buckingham Palace", his freestyle on Cappadonnas song and go down the rabbit hole of DJ Clue freestyles.
When 50 Cent dropped How to Rob it was a similar thing. After that all 50 had was mixtapes, they even shelved his album, Power of the Dollar. However, 50 had the good fortune of getting the Dr. Dre and Eminem cosign, something that didn't happen for Canibus. The rest is history.
For those that are surprised by Canibus' sense of humor, I don't think people realize that his 3rd album, C: True Hollywood Stories was a concept subliminal comedy album. The album has him forming a group with Eminem(who was "Stan" who he saved) Beanie Sigel, and his manager at the time, louie lombard, which they called themselves C4(a play on D-12) Beanie Sigel had dissed Canibus on the jada Diss(I'll Rock Your Bells Like L, I Ain't Canibus)....so on the album, Beanie Sigel is played by Pac-Man. The Hints are the video game beats, subliminally dissing Beanie, who had released Mac-man with the pac man beat as a single. Notice the songs with "Stan", how wack they are, trying to make fun of eminem's style. Also, notice that the only good songs on the album(U Didnt Care, The Rip Off, Boxcutter bladerunner, and R U Lyrically Fit) do not feature "Eminem" or "Beanie Sigel aka Pac-Man"

Math Hoffa your show is a Hip Hop must watch. I love this Cannibus interview. I respect him like Buster Ryhmes,Hevi D,and today Bobby Smurda they are of the Jamaican Descent but they embraced a Black American Culture which was cultured mostly African Americans and Puerto Ricans in the Bronx. I like to hear these cats who were black Balled in the Industry like him And he brings up Biz Markie the Strong Island NY icon who was beloved all over NY and the world. Biz Markie was Mr International. And Math get the Strong Island NY icon K Solo on the show to talk about his Career and interactions with the Strong Island NY icons EPMD and he also did time in the mountains so I'm sure he can give us that K Solo vs DMX story behind the G Wall.
It's really sad he feels like he constantly has to explain his lack of success. That album was fucking phenomenal, now the rest...... But that first album was a classic, beats and lyrics, I would say no one's rapped on an album better ever.
Word is born !!!! Canibus should do a album produced by Wise intelligent and Nas.. and just leave Hip-hop after that album.... It would be the greatest album of all time
It's more of an institution than a business- the business is the excuse and the layer that we are stuck striving to inherent and conquer. But the institution isn't there for the artist to claim. Artists are just pawns in between the layers of the excuses of the idea of business. Canibus is right about the institution- fighting for the excuse to claim it's a business is the carrot. The fight for and against the institution or the Ivory Tower isn't on the radar. You can only approach institution building as a collective- not on an individual basis as a MC.
Did y'all ever get to talk about the content of his music or his views on society or his creative process? We get his career could shoulda woulda been. But, that's miniscule to what his art consists of. Did y'all not think to pick his pick his creative brain? I was hoping for an artistic interview. This seems like a prehumous career eulogy. Hopefully the full interview is a little more broadened.
@@redward18 aiight on the surface that is debatable. However, for Canibus as proven in this interview of all highlights and great honest insight - the whole hour on the topic was needed. Canibus literally never has had the platform to speak on it, I'm sure it was therapeutic for him in some ways. Current artists and professionals in art can gain a lot from this interview. Future and potential artists and professionals in art can also gain many lessons from this interview. I agree with your point being that Canibus has more stories to discuss also. This needed to be discussed first and foremost though imo. It is a bad look and aback eye on Hip Hop. It's Canibus story buts it's how Hip Hop lost. The interview details all the ways Hip Hop lost (Canibus being blacklisted).
@@inputsandoutputs I don't think an artist appreciates being reminded of what went wrong in their career especially when they're still creating music. Canibus is humble enough to oblige but I imagine internally he would like to focus on the progression of his journey, current things or the highlights of his artistry. I feel like sometimes when artists get on a popular breakout show it can seem like a privilege to be interviewed and hosts take advantage of that dynamic and steer the direction of the interview to where they want instead of seeing things from the mind of the creative. Canibus is still elite and still progressing as a human being. He's not a has been. He's produced phenomenal works throughout his years. Just without industry backing.

I respect him like Buster Ryhmes,Hevi D,and today Bobby Smurda they are of the Jamaican Descent but they embraced a Black American Culture which was cultured mostly African Americans and Puerto Ricans in the Bronx. I like to hear these cats who were black Balled in the Industry like him
And he brings up Biz Markie the Strong Island NY icon who was beloved all over NY and the world. Biz Markie was Mr International. And Math get the Strong Island NY icon K Solo on the show to talk about his Career and interactions with the Strong Island NY icons EPMD and he also did time in the mountains so I'm sure he can give us that K Solo vs DMX story behind the G Wall.
Canibus was, is and will always will be GOAT
Artest and Jordan got into a fight and Artest gave Jordan dem hands HANDS!!!
It's really sad he feels like he constantly has to explain his lack of success. That album was fucking phenomenal, now the rest...... But that first album was a classic, beats and lyrics, I would say no one's rapped on an album better ever.
Drop the full interview already
canibus needed to talk his shit
Too many comments referring to Bis in past tense. He's not what he was from 96 to like 2010, but he's still with us.
The lyrical analyst
I was worried about Canibus' after that booty style unprofessional interview from Nems. Much love Math.
Word is born !!!! Canibus should do a album produced by Wise intelligent and Nas.. and just leave Hip-hop after that album.... It would be the greatest album of all time
MTV 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's more of an institution than a business- the business is the excuse and the layer that we are stuck striving to inherent and conquer. But the institution isn't there for the artist to claim. Artists are just pawns in between the layers of the excuses of the idea of business. Canibus is right about the institution- fighting for the excuse to claim it's a business is the carrot. The fight for and against the institution or the Ivory Tower isn't on the radar. You can only approach institution building as a collective- not on an individual basis as a MC.
I didn't know Canibus was shook about the thought of meeting him. Lol
Drop the whole interview already! This what 1000% hip-hop looks like . What the fuck is NY drill ? Lol the fuck is a glowrilla ? Trap mumble rap ?
The real lesson is just don't say nothing about the mic on LLs arm lol🤣🤣🤣🤣 you don't want to borrow that you want to...
Canibus is the best
Did y'all ever get to talk about the content of his music or his views on society or his creative process? We get his career could shoulda woulda been. But, that's miniscule to what his art consists of. Did y'all not think to pick his pick his creative brain? I was hoping for an artistic interview. This seems like a prehumous career eulogy. Hopefully the full interview is a little more broadened.
Good point but what had happened (to Canibus) was very much valuable enough to focus on.
@@inputsandoutputs Yeah. But, for a whole hour?
@@inputsandoutputs Math just posted a new clip. 'Canibus Talks Tryna...'. And, exactly what Canibus is saying in the clip is exactly what i'm explaining.
Flashbacks from the dizaster battle ugh
Yo Canibus is cool !
Canibus on a UK drill beat will be hyper insane.
Biz RIP
I heard about the Jordan broken ribs thing. Apparently it was right before his first season with the Wizards I think
yes it was, jordan had a bunch of nba dude's meet up and play so he could get back in nba shape.
@@kevleo723 yeah man
I remember hearing that and then seein him try to find his rhythm back and at one point really was bout to have a stretch that they could make a playoff run and helped turn the defense around but he tore up his leg or sumthin and eventually got surgery. I'm like damn I think he deserved more credit on that Wizards run for his age and the conditions and whatnot
@@FAMCHAMP they were definitely in the playoff hunt tht year, had surgery and came back the next year and played all 82 games at 40!!! Meanwhile these dudes is 25,26, 27 cant even in play in back to back games.
@@kevleo723
Yeah I really cant with NBA now outside of playoffs now
Especially when defense still can't put hands on nobody and all these 150+ point games. I think Dame and somebody else dropped 71 like a week apart. I just don't get excited that much watching these days
Canibus is a fallen angel 😂😂😂 speaking rap culture not religious shit, just a metaphor . He knew what he had , just didn’t have the right ppl around to help maneuver the ropes.
'NOBODY BEATS DA BIZ' ..
I said the same shit, bruh did NOT have the producers!
Canibus was basically raising the bar on n*ggas, on some next level, lyrical sh*t, so OF COURSE that's gonna be a threat to a majority of artists...TRUST. #StepYaBarsUpStar...
Dave outbthere making breakfast ... in the barn
Ron told the story just can’t remember who podcast it was on
