Gavin Luke is an American composer who makes music inspired by nostalgia, nature, and the human condition. His diverse and prolific body of work spans an astonishing range of styles and traditions-from neoclassical to ambient, pop to jazz, EDM to film scoring. His music has tallied 470 million Spotify streams and 15 billion plays via sync in UA-cam videos.
Raised in Minneapolis, Gavin was born with what he describes as “an obsession with music.” At age 7, he enrolled in classical piano lessons, following in the footsteps of his parents and his grandmother. In his teens, he absorbed and experimented with the works of Brahms, Mozart, and George Winston. After studying music synthesis and scoring at the Berklee College of Music, he earned a degree in psychology and moved to LA to continue honing his craft as a composer for film.
The naturalism embedded in Gavin’s approach is inherited from the new age composers who influenced him, and who themselves drew inspiration from the natural world. It is also rooted in childhood memories of fishing and hiking in the lakes and woods his family frequented in Minnesota. In Gavin’s compositional process, sounds, objects, and moments-a thunderstorm, for example-often evoke nostalgic associations from his youth. These recollections intermingle with the sound of the keys as he plays on his grandmother’s fully restored 1925 Steinway grand piano, kindling a fresh musical idea.

This song marks a time for me...and causes within me my solace in perspective and reflection. Having lost my wife last year seems like yesterday, Gavin`s piece here brings me a soothing peaceful yet remorseful grace. Still, he creates a space for me to be at peace. I found it a year ago and it was for my daughter then. Now it is for more "for me" I think? I am wandering whenever I entered this song's beautiful world...and, once again, I am together with my family again. With her. I see my daughters smile then and hear them playfully talking to themselves, I am happiest then. For a wonderful moment just "for a moment."

Whenever i hear this song I think of my childhood love, which I found again in Ehrwald Austria in 2017. Unfortunately there were circumstances not to stay with her. I long for her and Ehrwald so much. The days I was allowed to be there were full of love and harmony. My mistake to give up once more. I am planning to cross the Alps by bike in 2023 and have to pass Ehrwald. At least I hope I can see her again

I first heard this while watching a video of a scenic drive of the Catalina highway near Tucson. Once a while a song hits you and within seconds your heart is caught by it and you know it's going to be one you'll listen to a lot. This was one. Glad to find this artist. I love music like this.

One of my favourite and most evocative piano tunes since I first heard it on a live stream a few months ago. Brings about fondest memories and gives hope for the future. I think people like Gavin Luke are true artists. Based on a comment below, it feels like they inspire others to create art as well. Only a true artist can be that generous.
