- 🧿Unforgettable Humpback Whale Watching Experience in Perth, WA! We were thrilled to witness the majestic humpback whales migrating to Antarctica, right from the coast of Perth! These gentle giants are truly awe-inspiring. Did you know that humpback whales travel up to 16,000 miles each year, making their annual migration one of the longest of any mammal? Humpback whales are known for their distinctive songs, which can last up to 20 minutes and are often sung by males to attract females. They're also incredibly social creatures, often swimming in large pods. Interestingly, humpback whales have a unique way of communicating with each other through body language and vocalizations. We observed these magnificent creatures swimming together, with their milk-calved young staying close to their mothers. Humpback whales typically have only one cub at a time, and the calves are born after a 12-14 month gestation period. It's fascinating to note that humpback whales have natural predators - sharks and killer whales (orcas). They're constantly on the lookout for potential threats, which makes their migration journey even more remarkable. Some other interesting facts about humpback whales: Humpback whales can dive as deep as 500 feet in search of krill and small fish. Their distinctive white patches on their pectoral fins can be used to identify individual whales. Newborn humpback whales weigh around 1.5 tons (3,000 lbs) at birth! Witnessing these incredible creatures up close was truly humbling.
