Van Morrison made tons of great music. Astral Weeks was a pretty avant-garde album for its day. This is the shortest and perhaps poppiest song. You should consider one of the long ones like Cyprus Avenue or Madame George. Caravan from the album Moondance would be a great one to do.

Moon Dance and Brown Eyed Girl are Morrison classics. Okay, now wet your palate with some Dan Fogelberg, Billy Joel, America, Jackson Brown and the Outlaws for starters. So many reaction channels and I found you two. Glad I did. Looking forward to many more great reactions!
You Must hear the rest of this amazing album. All eight songs are tremendous. Astral Weeks, Beside You, Sweet Thing, Cypress Avenue, this song, Madame George, Ballerina and Slim Slow Slider. Recorded in 1968 when Van was only 23. There is no "genre" to put this into. It is a one of a kind album mixing, jazz, folk, country, chamber-hall, and who knows. Please listen to this whole album, even if it is off camera.🙏✌🙏✌

I mention this because of the “Jersey” part of your name, but I always thought that early Bruce (especially “The Wild, The Innocent...”) was heavily influenced by early Van Morrison. Songs like “Wild Nights, and “GLORIA” and “Here Comes the Night” give me similar vibes to Bruce’s early albums and even “Because the Night” written by Bruce. “Brown Eyed Girl” became “Jersey Girl.” Whadda u think?! @Michele Michele Perhaps early on, but Bruce is a musical midget next to Van. Furthermore, Van has stayed true to his well thought out principles, values, and love for freedom. Bruce took a different path by identifying with the elites more and more as he aged.

Astral Weeks, an acoustic 'jazzy' album, came out of left field in 1968 at the height of the psychedelic era, although The Band did release the very influential 'Music from Big Pink' in 1968, which helped bring 'roots' music back into vogue. Van even moved to Woodstock for a while! He was definitely listening. The Band invited Van to perform at their farewell concert, The Last Waltz. The bands Pentangle and Fairport Convention were exploring similar styles in the UK.
That version of “Caravan” is literally a mic-drop moment. And thanks for reminding me of Fairport Convention. To you health, Mate 🥂✨🤪
If I had to name the most achingly beautiful song ever recorded, "Madame George", the track that follows "The Way Young Lovers Do" on Astral Weeks, might be my pick. An amazing, utterly unique album.

Hi Guys! Happy Anniversary to you! Such a great couple. (You’re a Lucky Man Nick) lol your next ELP song? So glad you have stumbled upon Van Morrison and especially Astral Weeks. (Have to admit, it would be better for you to look up lyrics prior to listening as Vans singing can be hard to follow with just your ears) Please explore this more. Title track is awesome, Cypress Avenue… the entire album is so unique and the way it was made was so organic. My favorite of his is Into the Mystic but that is a later more polished sound for Van. As for ELP, Still is still one of my all time favorites.
Greg plays 12 string acoustic, electric guitar, and electric bass. Keith plays Accordion and Harpsicord. And although it has been said that Carl is not playing on this, I can clearly hear him on tambourine.

Omg, I was SO excited that you were hitting a song from the "Astral Weeks" album! It's one of my favourite albums of all-time! You're right, this ELP album cover's done by the H. R. Giger (Swiss) as in Alien.
I recommend these songs: "Bright Side Of The Road", "Crazy Love", "Tupelo Honey", "Reminds Me Of You" and for me one of his best songs, "Rough God Goes Riding", in a duet with his daughter Shana Morrison. I could put another twenty recommendations and I would fall short. You can not summarize his entire musical career in four lines, his discography consists of 42 studio albums, five live albums ... Astral weeks is a masterpiece but at the same time very different from most of morrison's work. There are los if music from VM you should react to.
Giger, a very famouse artist drew the picture and when Keith Emerson was visiting giger at his home saw the drawing and just felt it was a great picture and E.L.P decided it would make a great album cover.. the woman is actually a picture of giger's wife.. but yes, giger also did drawings for the movie aliens..

Love Van the Man, but this wasn't his best. Sorry your first experience with VM wasn't his best. I'm not sure why this song was picked, since he has so many love songs. Love his second album in 1969, "Astral Weeks", it really sealed his sound of what was to come and that would be his third album in 1970, and my fav, "Moondance", and Imo "Into The Mystic" is his most romantic song and must be reacted too. This song as your first Van Morrison is risky! Van Morrison had some contractual problems. Warner Brothers gave him some studio time. He got some jazz musicians and the rest is history. Richard Davis on the stand up bass is insane.

My favorite ELP song is the Great Enigma (which have about 4 parts) Makes sure you listen to it all together or Tarkus (which features the talent of "E" and "P") These 2 songs rock. Not the soft ballads you're used to.

This was very early Van Morrison and rather unfocused. I''ve been a big Van Morrison fan from the start and while Astral Weeks does mark his debut as a solo artist its kind of experimental in its approach and might not be the best intro to his career. Check out Moondance where he really hits his stride. He is like Steely Dan. A very rich body of work over many albums. Please react to more Van Morrison you will be richly rewarded.

I thought everyone knew Van Morrison's Brown Eyed Girl and Moondance. As for ELP and not romantic but I do not know if you listened to Karn Evil 9 - all four movements straight through?

So, the "staccato" part Nick, that you thought was a guitar is actually Keith Emerson on keyboards, including the real "accordion" that he plays in the background track :). Greg Lake is a VERY underrated "Guitarist" as most think of him as a Bassist.
Yes, that is H.R. Giger who does the cover art (and a few years later, the ALIEN designer), which has a whole story behind it (and in my life, surrounding _Brain Salad Surgery_ and when I 1st saw the album in 1973), which I'll save for when you do more from the album. "Toccata" is an interpretation of Alberto Ginastera's Classical piece which also has a grand story when they presented _their_ version to maestro Ginastera. This is yet another piece that may have inspired some of the "Technical" Metal to come decades down the road.
Other romantic tracks are recommended from your viewers; C'est La Vie (and Keith on Accordion again), and From the Beginning which I just remembered you had reacted to. Both have great acoustic guitar from Greg. There is also the Epic "Trilogy" but its a _break-up_ song, but very beautiful and indicative of ELP going over the top, beautifully :). Lend your love to me Tonight is another good one, as a Solo piece from the ELP album "Works Volume 1".
I need to get into Van Morrison, when I was younger I couldn't stand him :p. But I got used to a few tracks that would play on AOR FM stations.

I figure this is as good a time as any to suggest a new artist you probably have never heard. Richard Thompson. He's highly regarded but most people have never heard of him. I would suggest "Can't Win" or "Vincent Black Lightning."
But I have to say that your paying requesters are doing a generally great job. What makes this channel pretty great, besides you guys, is that you almost never listen to crap music. If you are really listening to songs for the first time then you're at the mercy of your recommendations. Thankfully, you are not being fed crapola requests like other channels because your fans actually have good taste. (The day you react to a Journey song is the day I unsubscribe lol.) Stay away from the middle of the road - the ride in the ditch is a bit rougher, but a lot more interesting.

Love Van Morrison but he has gone stupid over Covid also that song which I have not heard before is rather a mess as you implied. Try anything from Moondance or the songs Kansas City or Coney Island. He is from Northern Ireland and if you hear him talk you can hear how easily he morphed into and American.
