  • Hey guys! Today's video is a day in the life of a single mom 2020. We had a beach day with my toddler. Being a stay at home mom is something I never take for granted, especially during these times. I have made the decision to start homeschooling my preschooler. She will not be going to public preschool until next year & I've been feeling some guilt that I am not teaching her as much as I should. THUMBS UP & PLEASE SUBSCRIBE! xo

@@TresChicMama I'm 22 and my daughter is 8 years old and yesterday I took her to the beach. It was really hot out so she thought it was really cool because both of us were wearing our matching bikini tops and bottoms. But a storm came up really quick and when we ran and got into the car we left our flip-flops and towels on the beach so I said we can wear our bikini tops and bottoms and go barefooted in the car. So my daughter said this is cool mommy we are both in the car wearing our bikini tops and bottoms and both of us are barefooted too. But when I was driving down the mountain it was raining really hard so I pulled over to let the rain slow down. But it was really scary when the 18 wheelers would drive past our car I was worried that a 18 wheeler would hit our car and push it over the edge of the mountain with me and my 8 year old daughter inside and both of us were barefooted and wearing our bikini tops and bottoms

Mom guilt is sooo real. I feel it all the time over everything :( I have no idea what we'll do in the fall but I'm leaning towards not sending my kids (1 & 3) just because I am still so nervous. But the idea of 'homeschooling' AND working from home is so overwhelming to me. I constantly feel like I'm falling short. I've been rolling with the whole 'learning through play' thing as much as I can so far. You are an amazing mama and everything you are doing for and with her is great!

All us moms have our mom guilt about everything. Every family is different. I know it’s hard but try not to compare yourself and your life to others. Focus on what’s important to you and that little angel of yours.
I did mention on IG about checking out Teachers Pay Teachers website. It has a ton of ideas, lesson plans and sensory play that are so easy to set up. My daughter has had so much fun doing little things I’ve purchased from that website. It’s really affordable too.

ugh yes that mom guilt! My oldest is 5 and is supposed to go into Kindergarten and I either have to send him into school or homeschool. He's always been super shy and needed friends so when he turned 4 we finally enrolled him into preschool, it was tough, he was finally getting comfortable and making friends when the virus hit and we had to pull him I was SO upset. I was hoping so much that this virus would go away so he could go into school for Kindergarten and start that whole routine again and make friends, but from the looks of it right now we are focused on homeschool. I have no problem doing it, I have experience in the early childhood field I wanted to be a Kindergarten teacher lol It's just a lot because I'm also trying to focus on "teaching" my younger child (2.5 years) so stressful
I'm so happy you're going to "homeschool" with your daughter! It is so much fun honestly idk if that's just me because my interest in teaching lol. I would love to share some ideas if you're interested too :) I have a few activity ideas on my channel if you would like to check out as well! I know you'll do amazing with homeschooling & both of you will have fun with it!

This video came to me at the perfect time! I've been feeling the same way with my boys. Just feel guilty I don't sit and play with them as much as I wish I could. There's just so much that always needs to get done. But I think I really need to put more focus on doing more activities with them and teaching them new things. I think I'm going to set up 6 activities in containers (magnetic sand, playdough, colors, etc.) and make sure I do at least 3 of those activities a day with them and really sit with them instead of expecting them to play on their own. I can't wait to see your ideas. You are always so inspiring ♥️♥️♥️

She is so so smart, she is so sweet and such a kind little girl and that's because of you!! You are an amazing mother and doing a phenomenal job! There are so many kids who dont go to prek or daycare and enter into kindergarten not knowing what the letter A even looks like! As a mom who homeschools (not for religious purposes, but because we’re a military family), I just want to say it sounds harder than it is. It honestly stressed me out just planning for it, but now that I have gone through kindergarten and about to do first grade with my daughter, I’ve realized it’s easier than I expected. I will say It’s harder to teach your own child than it is to teach other children. I went to college for education and I can say I had less patience teaching my daughter than I ever have when I assisted in a classroom. You expect more from your own child. You’ll have days when you don’t have the patience or motivation to push through because you’re also taking care of other kids and your normal chores and housework. So it can be exhausting. But it’s rewarding having that one on one time with your children. Also, for homeschool, you can do it for a couples hours a day, depending on how quickly it takes your child to get through all the lessons. So you don’t need to worry about blocking off 8 hours for school a day like public school. It can be pricy because you have to pay for a curriculum and the supplies. Some states require yearly testing (like my state, NC), so you have to pay for that as well. It can be annoying that you have to pay to access anything that can benefit your child at-home education. Pinterest has a ton of free or cheap activities. Pinterest is actually how I found my daughters kindergarten curriculum.
Yes, you will have days when you worry if your child isn’t learning everything they should be and you worry if you’re holding your child back from having friends and having fun activities and trips. You’ll have guilt, and you’ll feel like you’re failing but I promise that’s not true. You can always just take it year by year and decide if public school is a better option. Some kids need a more structure and “discipline” base education. I have planned to homeschool through elementary and I plan to send my kids to public school for middle and high school. In my opinion, the friendships, lessons/topics and even sports are more crucial during those years. There’s always the option to switch. It’s okay to do it one year and decide it’s not for you or your family.
During the time we live in, I’ve noticed more families switching to homeschool. It’s something I noticed more people are open to now. When before, homeschooling was always viewed as “weird”. I used to get asked if I was worried my daughter would be socially awkward. Now those same people are asking me how it’s going because they’re considering it. I think homeschool or virtual school is becoming a more excepted thing. So I’m almost positive there are going to be more resources available to the public for homeschooling because it’s something more people are opting to do. I’m so thankful I made the decision to homeschool. Because I can’t imagine sending my child to school right now.

The kids here where we are (western Alberta, Canada) don't have a full day until 6 years old. Pre-k is optional and so is kindergarten; grade one starts at 6 years old. I don't personally struggle with mom guilt about this; as soon as the kids can go back to school, my daughter is going. Looking to sign our son up for pre-k this September (ages 3-4 here). I have divergent views on the virus.
If you're worried about your daughter being behind, I would work on the proper pencil grip with her. That will definitely help her to print and trace better.

I used some ideas off of other UA-camrs for lessons, but Pinterest has definitely been a life saver in terms of crafts and learning activities. I also use a lot of real life learning, like measuring when we bake, and reading signs when we go walking. 🙌🏾🙌🏾 I felt the mom guilt talk. I feel like such a failure all the time, but people around me think I'm doing so much. Here in Texas, homeschooling is becoming a popular idea with the whole situation going on. You're doing a FANTASTIC job, please know that. Look up Monica Sutton's channel. Love her energy for learning.

You are wise not to film much of your private time with friends and family. I love how most of us are managing to make the masks and sanitizing and distancing just part of the daily life routine, like seatbelts and sunscreen and helmets already are. No trauma; just part of life now. I love the beach and picnics. Sydney probably got to run around enough without visiting the playground. We are homeschooling due to the pandemic, but there are teachers available to us online because the school district is still anticipating that there will be a return to classrooms at some point, though not this fall. We'll see how the pandemic goes. It was so cute that Sydney was concerned about the soapy water getting on her shoes when she was helping to clean the toys outside. It is also sort of cute that you think breaking down boxes and such chores have anything to do with Mom Life, when anyone who has a premises to deal with has tasks like breaking down packaging and staunching waters leaking from a water line in the bathroom/kitchen/laundry and keeping their premises in good form, clean. It's a fact of life that snow still has to be shoveled and cars repaired and loved ones' special events planned for which requires savings. All sorts of things are part of adult life, unless one has chosen to be a single person with no responsibilities ever toward anyone and just sits and eats take-out pizza while drinking beer and viewing Monday night football or whatever sport is on the tube. Only the things you do that are specific to Sydney have to do directly with the caretaking responsibilities toward another human being. Some have that with ill parents or the handicapped in the charity they work for, if they are single. But, fostering or adopting or choosing to bring a new child onto this beautiful, scary planet are separate sets of adult responsibilities. I guess some people haven't lived enough adult life with careers, charities, neighbors, communities that they have not realized before becoming a parent that much of this is just being an adult in a world full of responsibilities and loaded with the needs of others. I remember one time when I was single and a friend who had to marry young said to me how easy my life was because I didn't have to worry about the plumbing and such. I told her that my landlord loved it when I let the bathtub leak thus damaging my apt. and others and it was in violation of my lease and adult responsibility and he had every right to sue me, if I decided to treat his property in that cavalier manner. Plus I didn't have a husband to run and turn the water off while I put towels down to start mopping up the water before it leaked more. I do know there are many singles who can find nothing to do with their lives unless someone validates them by marrying them and/or giving them children, but there really is a world of people without children who are quite grown-up and have found ways to better the lives of all sorts of people who need their help from their grandparents to kids with the local Big Sister-Big Brother Association to Habitat for Humanity to volunteering at hospitals. They, too, are in the process of learning about all the comedies and tragedies of life and where they fit into that story and what they have to offer and thus should be doing. And it often brings them deep joy and they learn things they'd never known, which deepens their understanding of the world. And while some of them may never marry or reproduce, many of them know a great deal about the responsibilities of children because they had a single-parent home and the one parent was either alcoholic or had to work 3 jobs to pay the bills, so they were the ones who had to take care of the household and other children and figure out how to stretch the money they were given to grocery shop. By adulthood, maybe they'd had enough of that, so they decided not to marry or reproduce. They'd done their time. And there are single fathers who rear kids alone.

As a nurse, working the frontlines, I would absolutely keep my child home.
You would be a great home school mama/teacher.
You could do the exact same thing, only better and safer!
You can teach a lot more in a lot less time!

I would love to see how your working with Sydney. And helping her learn. My 2 1/2 year old son just started back at day care today. I've been home with him for 25 weeks. The school is very limited to how many are there and what they are doing. And all the safety regulations including all wear a mask. I'm not sure how they get 2 year olds to wear them but they do.

When you let her help you cook she is learning, the water play, sand play, and coloring are all appropriate activities for a 3 year year old.......you are doing great teaching her right now...hands on activities with work books and the craft type things are great too. Don't worry....she will do great when it's time for kindergarten. She may not be old enough for a 1 hour sit down time right now....it works well to even do things through out the day too. I used to have themed days too.....you could shop for corn on the cob and let her remove the husk....cook it...read a book about farms...look up a coloring page and print it out for her, talk about farms and where food comes from.......have a themed meal....like the corn on the cob, corn chips, vegetable soup where she can see the corn in it, corn muffins etc....our kids loved themed dinners where we cooked authentic meals from other places and talked about them at dinner...found the place on a globe etc......there are lots of fun ways to teach her a wide range of things through out the day too.

I was a preschool teacher years ago. Homeschooling is such a great option if you’re afforded the opportunity. The advantage of them going to school is social interaction. One on one is available but due to the classroom sizes they learn in group settings. I would hold out for kindergarten if you’re leaning towards enrolling her in school. She’s very advanced for her age and you’re teaching her all the things we teach in school. I think you’re doing a great job! Hope this helped. 🙂

Awwwww thank you for this!!! I feel like as the time approaches, I am having all these conversations in my head on what the best thing to do is haha It seems like the mass thing is to send her to preschool, but growing up 90% of us up here didn’t go. Just different times now

I still like you teach through out day. But lately i think with everything going on and having only child mom guilts been weighing heavier on me. I also have just decided in aug getting a better daily routine and having a loose lesson plan..
