- Super excited to arrive in Penang Malaysia just as it opens back up to the world!
We are falling in love all over again as we explore George Town as a family.

As we explore this epic unesco world heritage site, we get to introduce our children to the most famous and iconic art work such as the boys on the bike. They look so much like our boys!??
We also visited the famous Peranakan Mansion, perfect for learning about the beautiful local culture.
Though a few places were closed we were excited to find many of our favourite eating places open and even discovered some new places to eat from a local recommendation.
Join us as we explore Little India and China town and just have a giggle as we feel free again as we travel as a family!
We are super excited to be back in Malaysia and plan to do a lot of explore as a family as it opens back up!

@@TheBackpackingFamily You guys really lucky, We just re-open our border and things is getting back to normal which mean we can gather to celebrate Hari Raya together with Family & friends. A brief description of Hari Raya @ Eid for muslim generally, in muslim calendar, we fast for the whole month in the month of Ramadan which started on 3rd April. than come the month of Syawal where we celebrate Eid or we call HARI RAYA on 3rd May. on raya day, we usually gather with families, perform a special pray in masjid/house, than we asked forgiveness from our parents & elderly. kids will get `duit raya' (pocket money) than we will eat a special dishes together like KETUPAT, LEMANG, RENDANG, COOKIES and the the list keep continue.... we'll go visit our relatives/neighbour/friends's house and repeat the whole process again (EATING the most!) ha..ha.. Usually before covid, the Prime minister or other minister will hold an `OPEN HOUSE' where all are welcome to visit including non muslim & foreigners, gather and eat foods for free. The OPEN HOUSE happen not only for HARI RAYA but in CHINESE NEW YEAR & DEEPAVALI too!

Yes. Food capital in the world is Malaysia. And probably Penang in particular.
Reasons:
1. Three main ethnics groups share their food cultures, each with deep roots.
2. Spices of the South Seas like no others in the world.
3. Easy people. Reasonable price.

I would like to recommend you to go to Langkawi Island to enjoy its natural beauty, prestine beaches, mangrove tour, waterwalls & Skycab. You can go there by ferry from Penang Jetty Terminal in Weld Quay, Georgetown..its tooks 2 & half hours to reach Langkawi. I hope you & your family got as much sweet memories while you're in Malaysia.

If you like rain, history, nature, food included in one place, then Taiping is definitely a must go... Locals call it as "raintown", cuz it's raining every evening or at least 3 days of raining in per week, especially in sept-dec... But the Lake Garden is beautiful, there is also Maxwell hill, waterfall, paddy field, museum, former prison, durian, or many else...

Cause we feel that there have a lot of food stall food are very nice. Not only food stall even some of the food stall they are hiding at some of a local ppl housing area. I love NASI KANDAR , CURRY CHICKEN , CURRY BEEF , CENDOL , CHAR KOEY TEOH , KOEY TEO SHOOP , HOKKIEN NODDLE , CHICKEN RICE AND ETC.
Guys i will introduce one of my favorite chicken rice stall for you maybe you also can bring your family try to have it. I will always have the chicken rice when i back to penang. the restaurant name call PAK HOCK here is the DEW POINT OF GOOGLE 5°25'7.32"N 100°20'7.21"E. And there still have another one of my favorite restaurant is call KHENG PIN CAFE the Dew point is 5.420587,100.332840. In this restaurant it have a Food call LOH BAK you can try to have it. Actually i am staying in penang mainland i am not stay in penang island but normally i will always driving to penang island when i am back to penang. And there still have alot of nice food at mainland BUKIT MERTAJAM AND Butterworth

I am glad you are enjoying our beautiful country, which is truly beautiful from Perlis to Sabah. I hope you guys have the opportunity to explore more parts of Malaysia besides Pulau Pinang (Penang). But do take care and follow Covid SOP, Malaysia is slowly re-opening itself. We are currently in the endemic mode, i.e., living with Covid and accepting fact that it won't go away anytime soon, no point brooding over it, life has to go on and be as normal as it can possibly be. Hello family. Welcome to Malaysia. It's Ramadan month whereby the Muslims are fasting so some Muslim eateries are closed. I suggest that you visit the Ramadan Bazaar and try the variety of food.
Check out some nice spots to visit like the Kek Lok Si temple. If you like family activities you can visit the Escape theme park. It has the longest water slide in the world. It has a water park on one side and an outdoor obstacle course on the other..all within the same place. Please also visit. Cenang beach in the late afternoon to see the sunset and watch people playing fire works.

Hmm, was doing some research / checking about the latest from Penang and you guys popped up.... for a charge, travelling with a family......Least it's good exposure for the kids of introducing new food , new cultures.... Well, hope you enjoy your stay in Penang... hopefully the rest of Malaysia... like Kuala Lumpur , Malacca , Johor Bahru ( which is a border city , right across Singapore )..Cheers mate!!

So proud of your kids, able to adapt well in wherever they are. My wife and I homeschool our kid too. Unfortunately we don't have the opportunity to travel as much as you guys due to the nature of my career.

Chicken feet are full of collagen ! These ones are deep-fried & then stir-fried with black bean sauce. They are yummy. Eat them like you would with bone-in fried chicken. If looking at them is disgusting, just close your eyes & bite through every part of the feet, to savour every bit of this delicacy !

You have to stir the ice with the cendol mix or ais kacang mix before eating them. Else the palm syrup for cendol or syrup for ais kacang will settle down at the bottom and the dessert will be too sweet later. Glad the whole family love Penang. There are more to eat and to explore :)

Hello! It's me again haha! What is the best way to find accommodation in Penang - we are looking at staying 2 weeks to a month and have been looking on Airbnb. Wondered if you could recommend anything else?
Hey, would love to help, but we're a bit useless on this front as we stayed with friends / house sat. Will you have a car? If so, if you can find an air bnb around Tanjung Bungah it will cheaper, very local area on the coast road with lots of good food options neat by :) - very curious to know what you find :)
